Video Transcript for All About the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector

Hello everybody. This is [email protected]. Today, we'll take a look at the DECA blue butt connectors, for the 16 to 14 gauge size wire. It is for a quantity of 10. Now, these blue butt connectors will join two lengths, of 16 gauge or 14 gauge size wire, and they'll insulate the connection with the heat Shrinkable nylon, for adjustability and durability. Now, the blue color will indicate the size wire that this connector will fit, which is the 16 to 14 gauge size.

And if you don't remember what size the color is, you can just look on them and they're stamped on there, 16 to 14 AWG. Now, to install your wires in this, What you'll do is, get your two wires you want to connect, and you'll strip off about a quarter of an inch of the insulation on each end, and you'll take the first wire, and you'll slide it into the tubing, all the way until it won't go any further. Basically, there's this metal casing in the middle, and right in the center is a stopper. So when you push the wire in, it'll hit that and stop, so then you just make sure your stripped wire is underneath the metal casing. Take your crimper, crimp down on that metal casing, to make your connection.

And then, you'll do the same for the second wire on the other side, take the strip, then push it all the way until it'll go no further, make sure it's under the metal casing, take your crimper, crimp down on it, and then they'll both be crimped. And then, what you'll want to do is probably grab each wire, and just pull on both of them or just tug on it slightly, to make sure you have a nice, good connection. Once that's all done, you have a good connection, then you'll take a heat source, like a heat gun and then you just apply heat over this whole installation, and that'll cause this heat shrink insulation to completely shrink and seal around the connection, and prevent the elements from causing any problem with your wire connection. Now, this part number is for a quantity of 10 connectors. We do also sell this in a single piece, which is part number DW05744-1, and a five-pack, which is part number DW05744-5.

But that should do it, for the review on the DECA blue butt connectors, for the 16 to 14 gauge size wire for a quantity of 10..

Great reviews prior to purchase. Consise, acurate staff support regarding product for my GMC Canyon. Available videos and instructions were so clear and correct. I remembered to heat shrink the butt connectors with a blow dryer. Solid, factory finish. As a 33 year US Navy Nurse Commander, I felt completely comfortable and confident of this DIY project. Thank you for facilitating this task!

These butt connectors were very useful in installing light and trailer wiring on my Jeep Wrangler.

I want to thank you for all your help with my trailer you were more helpful than you realize. So this is my trailer for a 22' Flats Cat shallow draft Catamaran. I totally dismantled my trailer and buffed by hand with a wire buffer and sand blasted in some spots and applied multiple coats of some very expensive galvanize paint (Z.R.C.). I installed all new C. E. Smith Carpet (about 80'), seven new LED waterproof lights, new springs, new equalizers, new tongue jack, new wench, new safety chain, new chain brackets, all new SS hardware and a 35' long wiring harness.
I was able to send only one review with a picture of the safety chain and brackets. I'm having a little trouble with the rest..oh some of these items were bought locally or from your competitors, until I found ETRAILER. Your prices were cheaper for the exact same things. Your helpful how to videos were helpful. And Rose, your personal helpful knowledge made my buying experience very pleasant, I actually enjoyed talking to you! Thanks to ETRAILER and specifically to Rose G.

My second order, even though I thought I bought plenty the first time. These are the ones I grab for trailer wiring and repairs. I really appreciate how quickly eTrailer sent them to me.

Worked as advertised!

by:

Just upgraded to a 2016 Odyssey and need to tow my camper.
Purchased the OEM hitch and OEM custom harness (from car to 4 pin on hitch. OEM Hitch comes with nice beefy flange where the 4 pin connector mounts. But I needed a 7 pin for electric brakes and bought this ETBC7 kit to do the job.

I ended up cutting a custom hole in the bumper cover and figuring a way to mount the bracket in this kit directly to the OEM hitch. Wanted to share photos of the install for anyone else in the same boat. Advantage of my install is that the 7 pin is mounted above the bracket, protecting it from injury from low clearance obstacles on the road. One Con, is I had to mount it upside down so it didn't interfere with the metal bumper under the bumper cover.

One issue I remember is that the Ground wire on the 7 pin harness didn't come close to reaching an available frame member, at the side of the car. I had to cut off the ring lug and extend it out to the edge of the car to complete the install. But it is done now!

I don't usually do product reviews but wanted to post this one. This was my first purchase from etrailer. I purchased all four brake assemblies for our 5th wheel which I felt was the easiest and best way to go and had my drums machined. It was a very easy transaction, the parts came quickly and fit as they should. Very pleased with the product although I have not put the trailer on the road yet.
BUT- The packaging was very poor. The assemblies were in a carton twice as big as it needed to be without adequate packing and the items rattled around to the point that two shoes were knocked out of place on the backing plates. I was able to correct it and no damage done, this time. Please improve your packaging.
I would definitely buy from etrailer again.

Was sent the splices by etrailer to replace the ones sent in the Factory Kit, They are more heavy duty and resistant to wet climates. The Reps at etailer always make every effort to help the customer.

Have to have a helper ride in tow vehicle to adjust the sensitivity to match the RV breaking force. Example, you don’t want the tow vehicle trying to stop your RV. Just want it to stop it’s own forward motion. Once that’s done it’s ready to tow with no worries. Had 2 radio remote braking systems fail us which is why we went with the permanent one that’s wired up to RV.

I purchased a 5th wheel wiring harness and heat shrink butt connectors,
for my 2015 GMC Sierra. I installed a tail gate light bar and did not want to cut the factory wiring. With the harness I was able to plug into the factory trailing plug
and butt connect to the light bar, while still being able to use both the 7 blade and flat trailer connectors. It made for a easy and very clean connection. thank you to
Steve and the E trailer web site for helping make this a easy job.

I wish I found these sooner, great for rewiring trailers and old vehicles too!

Connectors worked well

Everything arrived in good condition. Only thing that could have been better for me would have been installation instruction sheet. I was able to get that information from the web site. Have bought from etrailer before and never have had problems.

worked fine

by:

Excellent product options with decent prices. Fast and dependable delivery. Would definitely buy from E-Trailer again when the need arises.

by:

Used these to install led lights all around boat trailer. They made installation a breeze and a year later no issues. Only regret is that I did not install led lights years ago.

by:

I bought these based on an installation video on etrailer for RVST50 (trailer brake/signal lights). In the video they used these. They are for 16-14 gauge wire. The wiring in the lights is 18 gauge. I’m not an expert, wasn’t sure if I could use them, so I just ended up going to Home Depot and getting the correct size. The product itself is as described.

by:

I like the concept of these connectors, but they have a few faults.
1. They don't seem to be a "standard" size. When crimped with my Triplite ratcheting crimp tool, they don't always crimp all the way. I had to move to the next smaller die, and that mashed the tubing a lot.
2. Even when using the correct Die, the tubing seemed to be significantly damaged during crimping. It made me wonder if the moisture proof nature was compromised.

I think I'll just go with standard crimps, and put a piece of heat shrink over the connection. I know it is a extra work, but these don't impress me.
etrailer is great though. great prices and service.

by:

Being a new boat owner I was quickly overwhelmed by what I didn't know. Re-wiring, re-lighting my trailer was my first project. etrailer has a wide range of products, but most important to me, was their added product information and instructional information which helped me make the right selections to get this done. Add to that is their very competitive prices. etrailer will be my go to source for my future trailer needs.

by:

Received my towbar, Airforce One and lighting kit in less than a week! Great videos and knowledgeable people, can't wait to get everything installed this week and get on the road. Thanks Susan and George for such a wonderful experience.

Used these to make watertight connection for a trailer light recepticle. Quality product, easy to use.

Still a solid waterproof connection. I expect itll last as long as the vehicle.

by:

Lights worked great and connectors did the job.

William T.

10/15/2018

They still work great

by:

I used everything I ordered with the exception of the harness (it was a fuse, not the harness, hey, I'm new to this). I ran into a small glitch but Michael Howell's EXCELLENT knowledge and customer service helped me get it fixed almost immediately. The trailer is good as new now and all the lights work perfectly. Thanks etrailer!

by:

You should use connectors with heat shrink on your trailer lights if even slightly exposed to the elements . Protects connections better than knife blade connectors and still no soldering . Quick and easy . Crimp, Heat and DONE !!!

didnt shrink well. maybe i didnt have the right heat source. never used beforre
