Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2025 Subaru Outback Wagon

Item arrived with forward attachment flanges torn through the cardboard(see attached photos taken immediately upon delivery). Seems this could be prevented by using extra reinforcement on the inside of the box. Fortunately the powder coat was not damaged. After unpacking the left and right mounting arms did not appear to be parallel, and upon measurement were found to be slightly spread apart. I had read other reviews that claimed this occurs during shipping, but I disagree. This is made of heavy metal that does not bend easily. If this had occurred during shipping my hitch would have been broken out of the box and heavily damaged. Anyway I managed to straighten the arms to an acceptable tolerance to me. The mounting holes are a bit oversized so there is some room for error. But this problem definitely occurred at the assembly jig when the hitch was welded up. After all that the installation went according to the instructions and the video. I had installed a similar hitch on my 2014 Outback, so the procedure was the same and I knew what to do. I did the installation in my garage with a couple of pieces of 2 by lumber under the rear tires for a little extra room underneath. Used a floor jack with some help from my wife to raise the hitch in position and bolt it up. The hitch fits well and looks good under the car.

Well Ronald, I am certainly glad you were able to get the job done despite the hitch being bent!

by:

E-Trailer is excellent with the sales, service, installation and all the things that have kept me coming back. My one gripe is the poor packaging on the hitch. Every one I have purchased has broken through the cardboard and knocked off the paint (in multiple locations). Shipping could be better, but otherwise an excellent company.

Hi E Trailer Friends. I almost never give feedback because it is just not my style and things happen...I get it. This is honestly just for you as a company to grow. The best thing about this experience was you asking for feedback and good emails with the pics of your team felt personal. The problem is that it just did not continue that way. The product was put in a cardboard box and came with no supporting padding or wrapping. The box had some damage to it by the time it arrived from the receiver flopping around inside I bet. It had multiple paint chips and almost looked like it had been previously installed. The cosmetics don't matter...no one will see it, but, the potential for rust in those areas is high. See pics. The hardware bag was missing one long washer so I had to stop the project, reinstall the muffler and put the project on hold until you sent me a new bag of hardware. I asked your representative if they could expedite that since it was only a washer and your team missed it in filling the order...I was told that they cannot expedite (2 day air) on something so small as a washer. Makes no sense to me?? Seems like that could have been a big win to send it 2 day air for 6 ouch washer and probably pretty affordable. Instead it was put on UPS ground and took a while to find its way to me. Frustrating when it was your mistake. I am not entitled nor do I expect an apology but when I called in and shared this story it just "felt" to me like business as usual and not much empathy for messing it up. The representative did give me a $15 paint credit...thanks for that but really was not the issue. The receiver was a gift that I had wanted to surprise my wife with installed on her car with her new bike rack. Instead it became a gift of "when the parts come in I will do it". Its done now but the experience was frustrating and probably could have been smoothed over with a little empathy and dropping a small washer in the two day air envelope/. BTW the little guides, that thread on to the bolts and help you get them in place through the chassis work great.

Installed this hitch last week and used it to haul bikes to the races this weekend. Hitch worked as advertised. Looks nice installed on my outback, I would recommend this product.

by:

The hitch appears to be well constructed, however both ends have large areas that the paint was chipped off on arrival. Will have to paint before installing to prevent those areas from rusting.

I am seeing about getting you some paint in the mail. Touching up with rust resistant spray paint will help prevent any from forming.

2024 Subaru Outback Wagon

Pretty straight forward and accurate to the video with no surprises, excellent job! Very ingenious using the wire to thread onto the bolt allowing it to be pulled into place. After I torqued the 4 7/16 bolts to 50ft lbs I doubled it up with stainless steel nylock thread nuts for piece of mind (didn't torque those just good'n tight).
Also smart that you shrink wrapped the instructions and nuts/bolts bag to the hitch to prevent it from getting lost during delivery (it would have fallen out of the box due to the hitch punching a couple holes in the box).
Thank you for a well done job in providing great tutorials and a good hitch.
I've recommended you guys before and will continue to do so.

2021 Subaru Legacy

I wanted as heavy duty a rack as I could get for the new ebike and heavy rack the ebike made necessary. I probably should have asked questions before I installed it on my 2021 Legacy; all the reviews and comments I saw were for Outbacks, which have a few more inches of ground clearance. For anyone else considering installing on a Legacy, the installed hitch face is tucked under the rear bumper by 2.5". The bottom of the hitch is 6" off the ground. Both of those numbers work for me (watch out for really steep driveways and very tall curbs when backing) but they may not for you. We installed it in the driveway, no ramps or lift. Took 2 hours; we decided to pull both mufflers (4 bolts total) to simplify the installation of the hitch, heat shield, and re-installation of the mufflers on the hangers. I highly recommend that to simplify the installation.

2024 Subaru Outback Wagon

A great hitch at a great price. I admit it was a bit of work for this 70 year old to install by himself. The instructions were great and it's a perfect fit. I did not lift my 2024 Subaru Outback to do the installation. It would have been easier if I did. Removing the muffler, which I considered, especially being it is new and not rusted in place, would have made it easier to place the left side onto the two bolts. However, I did it and would do it again in less than half the time. As always, I'm pleased once again with another product from etrailer.com.

2024 Subaru Outback Wagon

I ordered a 2 in. trailer hitch was shipped out the next morning and delivered in perfect condition on the date I was given. Was very easy to install on my 2024 Subaru outback.I did install myself, this was my third etrailer hitch I've purchased so I knew what to expect with installation. Would highly rated this company.

by:
2025 Subaru Outback Wagon

Great Product, Directions were very good and easy to follow. (however I added another step to include removing and re-installing the mufflers to simplify my installation) in my opinion the Packaging was the only weak point, because the steel hitch had broken out of the cardboard box it was shipped in, but at least the hardware was stretch wrapped to the hitch and not just put in the box to get lost.

Draw-Tite Item #DT3RR is a top quality Hitch. Easy install and video on 2024 Subaru Outback install made the job easy. When it comes to hitches and custom wiring harness trailer gets all my business.
Excellent customer service before and after the sale and fast shipping.

by:

This trailer hitch was inexpensive, super heavy duty and just what I was looking for. Installed easy and works great.

by:

Excellent quality, fit and video instructions. I installed it on a 2024 Outback Premium. I had also installed one on a CrossTrek. I use it for a 1up bike rack. In the Outback case the hitch reset under the bumper is just enough to fit the rack fully folded, leaving 3/16 of in inch clearance (see photo). A little tight but this keeps the rack unabtrusive. Bikes fit nicely.

Subaru Outback Wagon

First--super fast shipping. I had the hitch in hand in less than 48 hours after I ordered it. The finish was very good--had a couple of small scratches on the bottom that I had to touch up to prevent rust. I installed this myself--with some help from my nephew to hold it in place until I got all of the nuts on--and it took more time to gather the tools and get the Outback up on ramps than it did to actually install the hitch. Saved hundreds of $$$ compared to what the dealer would have charged. This hitch does hang a bit lower than the factory and other hitches, but I couldn't care less about ground clearance and I didn't want a hole cut in my bumper cover. Unless you are looking at the side of the car from a distance, you can barely see this hitch once it is installed. I have only used it to use a cargo carrier, but it's worked flawlessly. Icing on the cake--etrailer followed up a year later to make sure I was happy with the hitch. You couldn't ask for anything more!

Two years in, and the hitch still looks like newno rust. As noted earlier, I only use this for a cargo carrier. Because it does hang below the bumper, the cargo carrier is lower which makes it easier to load my mower and generator and pressure washer. But the cargo carrier will scrape when I pull into the driveway. I usually just park on the street to install and loadunload the cargo carrier. But, I did just purchase a hitch extender to give a few extra inches of height which should fix the issue. As mentioned before, Id rather deal with this than cut a crude hole in the bumper cover of a 38K vehicle.

by:

Everything about purchasing from etrailer.com fully met expectations. Installation videos were a great help for me.

by:

Arrived in packaging that allowed it to be bent in transit. I reached out to Customer Service and was told that was normal (not in my last 40 years of buying and installing hitches). Had to take the hitch to a garage that had the proper tools and expertise to straighten the hitch and install it for a couple hundred dollars, making it the most expensive hitch I've ever purchased.

by:

It was a super easy installation. Tho it would have been easier if I had a lift to do the install. Probably took me twice the amount of a professional due to not having all the proper tools.

by:

I have ordered from etrailer and they ship super fast and have quality racks for all needs. Fairly easy to install if you are handy and in reasonable shape, and at 1/2-1/3 the price or more than buying from a dealership

Subaru Outback Wagon

Fit my 2022 outback perfectly. Removed the mufflers for a simpler install.
No issues with my Yakima bike rack folding up and my utility trailer had no issues.

by:

Hitch arrived with bits sticking out on both sides of the box. No visual scratches after unboxing.

Was able to complete the install in an hour 20. Would have gone quicker if I had assembled all my tools and didn't doubt myself about the heat shield and take the hitch off and put it back on once.

Had the outback up on my incline ramps and the height was perfect for working and was able to manage the install by myself.

I did use a magnetic tool grabber to help pull the ends of the fish wire out of the frame tube. Feel this saved me some time.

I have previously installed the "under the bumper" version on my 2019 and liked not having to take off and replace the plastic with this one.

It so easy, I'd volunteer to help my neighbor install one on their car!

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2024 Subaru Outback Touring XT
Curtis, it does look like the only hitches offered for a 2024 Subaru Outback Wagon like # DT73RR are going to be class III hitches which are going to have 2" receivers. If it's an accessory you're trying to use that only works with a 1 1/4" hitch then you could just use the Trailer Hitch Reducer # e63YR and you'd be all set.
