The simple truth is that salt can be highly corrosive to metal when exposure lasts for an extended period of time. So, the more you tow around it, the more you need to protect your trailer from it.
The TUFFPLATE finish on this jack helps to ensure that it doesn't end up looking like the one pictured above. TUFFPLATE offers 3 layers of corrosion protection. The first layer is a specially formulated zinc finish. The second layer is chromate. Finally, a sealer puts a third barrier between the jack's gleaming good looks and anything that can contribute to rust, like freshwater or even saltwater exposure.
Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. Zinc plating typically begins to deteriorate after about 100 hours. Dacromet usually lasts for around 300 to 400 hours. Dutton-Lainson's TUFFPLATE finish lasted nearly 500 hours in the salt spray test before the first appearance of rust (about 30% longer than a traditional powder coat finish). As for the first appearance of white corrosion, it performed about as well as typical zinc finishes.
The environment this test creates is much harsher than anything you'll ever experience in your journeys, but it provides a testament to how well this jack resists rust and corrosion.
A trailer jack lifts your trailer high enough at the tongue to allow you to couple it with your vehicle. Usually, your tongue weight is about 10-15% of your gross trailer weight (GTW). For example, a 10,000-lb trailer has a tongue weight of 1,000 lbs to 1,500 lbs. To raise the tongue of a trailer this size, you'd need a jack that can handle a static load of no less than 1,500 lbs. And, yes, it's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time fishing.

It had scratches on it and small pinhead size rust
marks all over. This one had a couple small scratches and some type of
marks on the shaft. They will probably buff out. The plastic cap at the top was also damaged, but still serves the purpose. I needed a jack that had extra lift and there aren't as many of these, so I decided I'm just going to keep this one. Also, there's no grease fitting and I fail to understand why any manufacturer wouldn't put one on. A lot of the damage problem could be easily solved with better packaging. The metal mounting parts are in a plastic bag and allowed to just flop around inside the box. I just got the jack today, so it's obviously not mounted and I can't give you a review on operation. I suspect it will be okay.
Well, it hasn’t completely failed after one year, but it is getting hard to crank and has no grease fittings. I have a venture trailer, used the OEM jack for at least 5 years, that failed (became impossible to crank, grease didn’t help) so I replaced it with an Amazon Fulton jack that failed after about a year, replaced that with a West Marine jack that also only lasted a year. OK, I conclude I’m getting Chinese junk with American brand names. So I find this Dutton - Lainsin jack claiming made in USA.for 100 years etc. And it has a multi Year warranty. So I bought it last year. Not looking promising. I’m not immersing these in salt water or anything, what gives? It’s like the new Whirlpool refrigerator I bought that had two service calls in the first year! Have manufacturers forgotten how to build quality products? Or is it a better business model to sell cheap junk? Frustrating!!
Great jack, smooth easy crank. It's installed on my 24ft boat trailer. Only sees salter water and no rust yet.
Just what the doctor ordered! Shipment arrived a day early and shipment notifications were top notch. Item was as advertised and an exact fit. Thank you etrailer.
My new Dutton-Lainson Tongue Jack from erailer has eliminated the potential problem of receiving an unwanted tailgate ding. This unit is heavy duty with a 1,000 pound tongue rating - not some $35 throw-away unit that you usually get from Big Box stores.
Installation on my new Karavan Utility Trailer was easy enough, taking no more than 30 minutes, and that's without even reading the installation instructions!
The D-L tongue jack provides trailer tongue quick drop, as well as high quality worm gear internals.
Thanks etrailer! Satisfied Customer
Exact replacement for what I needed. Great customer service.
The jack broke on our bear pontoon trailer. Tried looking number up on broken jack and couldn't find anything number wise to match. Called e trailer and asked them if they could cross reference the number somehow. And found a match that was verified by the manufacturer. Thanks for making it easy.
Great replacement!
As expected. Hopefully this one will last longer
Fast shipping
Replaced my 20 yr old fulton jack with your dutton. Exact replacement didn't have to use any of the hardware, just bolted it in place. Now my shore lander boat trailer should go another decade or two. Ready for the fishing season here in Michigan, thanks so much I'll make sure to tell all my fishing friends what a great service you offer.
Placed on a 16' Aluminum boat/Trailer. This was the only trailer jack I could find which would raise the bow of the boat sufficiently to place the trailer coupler above the hitch ball. I have a tongue weight of about 150 pounds and arthritis in my back.
Pros:
It seems to be made of quality materials. Rustproofing seems to be robust. Does raise the coupler at least 5 inches higher than the previous hitch. Installation is simple but........
Cons:
There are no installation instructions except "refer to the drawing", which is a blow-up view of all the parts of the jack. There is no step 1, step 2, etc. Unfortunately, there are a few parts that could be installed incorrectly. It's easy to put together once you figure out what goes where.
Gets 5 stars if it had reasonable assembly instructions.
Great quality!
Great strong trailer jack. I use on the trailer that I haul my ATV with. Makes moving the trailer from storeage shed to truck a breeze. Now I don't have unload the ATV to move the trailer into storage. Ijust let the ATV on the trailer and roll it back in to the shed.
The trailer jack I ordered was a direct replacement for my existing one. It did come with all of the hardware to make it a universal fit for any trailer. The service was great and product shipped fast. I even received an email after parts arrived ensuring that my order was correct. I would recommend Etrailer to anyone needing towing or trailer parts. A+ service.
I couldn't find the trailer jack I needed until I went to eTrailer.com and spoke to Debbie H. She listened to my problem and suggested two different jacks for me to look at, I choose the second one realizing that the only difference in the jack was that the manufacturer of that Jack raised the lifting wieght by 200 lbs. Debbie H. Is a wonderful person and she is greatly knowledgeable of her companies inventory... That Lady knows her stuff!!!

Item was exactly as described, used this jack as a replacement for a 1991 Shoreland’r boat trailer with Profile 2000 winch stand
This jack seems ok, for the money I DID expect to find a grease fitting on the crank shaft, not just a "hole" for grease.....How am I supposed to get the grease in? also, the worst instructions for assembly I have ever seen, it referred to viewing a diagram which had multiple other units pieces displayed, I guessed on how to assemble it with hit and miss and I had to disassemble it a few times before I got it right but finally I got it mounted....I guess one is expected to buy the more expensive version made by Fulton to get better quality.....I might have bought that model but there was no way to secure it from theft which to me seemed quite possible for a product costing that much......live and learn!
I was not able to find a exact replacement for my trailer jack until I found Etrailer.com. Good price, fast shipping, great product.
We ordered the wrong item #. They immediately issued a UPS return ticket and helped us get the right item ordered. It was delivered quickly.
The trailer jack is exactly what we needed.
We will order from here again.
