Rolling Load

To calculate your winch's rolling load capacity - the amount of weight it can pull up an incline - you must multiply the line pull capacity by a factor determined by the degree of the incline.

The multiplication factors shown in the chart, right, include a 10-percent rolling friction factor.

Note: A 5-percent - or 3-degree - incline is a 1/2' rise over a 10' distance. Follow the chart to determine your winch's rolling load capacity.

Used this for a year now on my 18.5 foot Ranger Reata. This thing is a beast! Well made and very functional! Highly recommend- zero issues.

I've used Etrailer for years in my new car business. Always a great product at a great price. Consistent quality and service.

by:

Seems to be excellent build/quality. Effortless boat retrieval. Significant improvement over a no name winch that came on a used boat trailer. Looks great on the trailer too.

by:

Jeepers! Ordered on a Monday evening. Got a lot of help picking out this winch from Alex. Great customer service! Showed up today, Thursday. Had it on the boat within 30 minutes from the time UPS dropped it off at my doorstep. Quick and easy installation. Solid winch. Got the ratchet handle too. Awesome combo!

by:

I don’t know who your carrier is, but the box was destroyed. The handle was bent and scratches all over the thing. Pretty pathetic.

Nice winch upgrade for our 26ft party barge! It installed easily and works great!

It's a quality built winch. Made in USA. Costs a bit more than the China made stuff but worth it if you want quality and reliability.

See what our Experts say about this Dutton-Lainson Trailer Winch

  • Recommended Mounting Bracket for the Dutton-Lainson DL17042
As the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL17042 is typically mounted to a horizontal post or beam on a trailer, we will not have a bracket to mount it vertically. That being said, you may be able to adapt the Dutton-Lainson Mounting bracket # DL24059 to work for your needs, but it will require some doing. If you have the option, it will most likely be easier to drill into the vertical post to get the # DL17042 mounted securely.

  • Shorter Handle for Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch
The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL17042 will accept the Replacement Handle # DL5144639. This handle is 6" in length compared to the 9-1/2" of the handle that comes on your winch. A better option may be using the Ratcheting Handle # DL70371. This handle is 8-1/4" long so that you won't be giving up as much leverage. And with the ratcheting feature you will be able to use it in any range that you have available.

  • Ratcheting Handle for Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL17042
We do indeed have the ratcheting handle available that is compatible with the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL17042. For this you will just need the Ratchet Handle # DL70371. This can be cranked in full circular revolations or ratcheted for better leverage.

  • Replacement Strap Width on Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL17042
You are correct. This Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL17042 does use a standard 2" wide strap for easy replacement. A good replacement strap for this winch would be # DL24250 which has a 3700-lb capacity and provides 20 feet of length to work with.

  • Replacement Boat Winch For Fulton T1801 Unable To Get Replacement Parts For
I recommend replacing your Fulton T1801 boat trailer winch with the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL17042. Fulton was acquired by First Brands in the beginning of 2023 and has had issues with manufacturing of parts including those for your Fulton winch. Because of this most replacement parts for older items are no longer being developed and it is unclear what will happen with several parts. Switching to the Dutton-Lainson will help ensure you can get support for the winch.

  • Shorter Handle Option For a DLx1900 Hand Winch
The DLX 1900 is our Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL17042. The Replacement Handle for Dutton Lainson Winches # DL5144639 which is 6" long and is the correct replacement handle if you are looking for a shorter handle than the 9-1/2" handle it comes with. We also have the Ratcheting Handle for Dutton-Lainson Pulling Winches # DL70371. This handle is 8-1/4" long and can be ratcheted for better leverage on steep boat ramps or from an awkward stance.

  • Can a Ratcheting Handle Be Added To a Fulton XLT 2-Speed Trailer Winch
The Fulton XLT, 2-Speed Trailer Winch part # F142425 uses a standard crank handle which does not have a ratcheting handle feature, nor can one be added to this winch with this feature. The heaviest hand winch we offer that this feature can be added to is 1,900 lbs, the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch part # DL17042 which you would need to add the Ratcheting Handle for Dutton-Lainson Pulling Winches part # DL70371 to.

  • Dutton Lainson Winch to Replace Fulton T1801
Hey Rodney, so the winch you have now is an 1,800 lb winch with a 20 foot strap so for a Dutton Lainson replacement the part # DL17042 would be a really great option. This is a similar specced winch but it also has side covers to protect the gears from water damage.
