When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.

EZ-Latch Coupler

Cast Coupler Cutaway

This coupler features a simple-to-use latching mechanism known as the EZ-Latch. With this mechanism, hooking up is as easy as dropping the coupler over your trailer hitch ball. The latch does not need to be tugged or manually activated to allow the ball into the coupler socket, nor does it have to be secured in place. Just make sure that the coupler is properly lined up with the ball when you lower it, and the rest is automatic. Disengaging the coupler is just as effortless. Simply lift up the handle and the coupler socket will automatically release its grip on the ball.

Demco EZ-Latch in Use

The contoured, low-profile design of the latch handle helps protect the coupler from damage by allowing any potential hazards - from debris on the road to your ball mount backing into the coupler - to simply slide over the top. This helps prevent anything from getting under the latch handle and releasing the ball, and it can also limit any damage to the coupler should an impact occur

Unlike most couplers, which have a pin hole on the handle latch, the EZ-Latch coupler features a hole on the side of the coupler itself. Inserting a coupler lock through this hole will keep the latch from lifting, preventing disconnect and theft.

Electric Reverse Lockout

The electric reverse lockout on this trailer brake actuator is automatically activated when you shift your tow vehicle into reverse. The solenoid wires into your trailer connector - which connects to your tow vehicle - so that it can detect when you are in reverse. When your vehicle is in reverse, the solenoid ensures that the hydraulic actuator does not activate your trailer's brakes, thus allowing you to back up your rig. To use the lockout feature, you must have a 5-pole flat, 6-way round, or 7-pole trailer connector.

Sturdy, Corrosion-Resistant Construction

Made of sturdy steel, this hydraulic trailer brake actuator features a durable zinc coating that is designed to limit rust and corrosion. This zinc coat has a 120-hour salt spray rating. In addition, the composite master cylinder is made of corrosion-resistant glass-reinforced nylon to further ensure durability.

The whole staff at etrailer bent over backwards to make sure I was satisfied with the installation of brakes on my trailer. Have made several purchases from them always satisfied with parts and service. Special credit to Jamie great to deal with. Answered all my questions and was very knowledgeable.

by:

After spending a long time on the phone with etrailer sending Pictures, they told me this is what I needed. Well Ordered and didn't have time right away to install, since it was snowing. This wasn't even close. Wasted couple hundert bucks on the wrong part.

by:

I recently replaced my old actuator. Price and delivery was very good. after the install we went to bleed the brakes and the master cylinder was defective. Called Demco and they immediately knew the issue because they have been having problems. They shipped a replacement master cylinder to be installed by us. Good customer service by Demco but caused labor costs to be more than double original estimate.

by:

Best brake actuator I have ever used. Had issues with my brake line fitting up to the actuator and George J helped me trouble shoot the problem and got it resolved in no time. Best price, best product and superior support staff. I would not hesitate to purchase any product from them at all and will definitely use them in the future for all my trailer needs.

by:

I received the actuator and unfortunately the master cylinder appears to be defective and I could not get it to pump any fluid at all. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong with the install (although we're dealing with simple physics)and called etrailers but they had nothing to add. To etrailers credit, they are to send me another unit via express tomorrow (no shipments on Sunday). Will post an update on the new unit.

by:

The videos really helped convince me the Demco was the one to buy. Came on time. Is exactly what I expected. Nice hitch. MUCH better design than the old actuator hitch, which had become disfunctional.

by:

Product was exactly as advertised. Shipping date kept getting pushed back and the item arrived much later than anticipated.

by:

This actuator works great with the brakes and love the easy “click” hookup. Would highly recommended

by:

Hit brakes trailer stops. That's what I want it to do and that's what it does.

by:

Excellent replacement for my 2008 EZ Loader trailer

by:

I guess I didn’t read enough, I wanted an actuator that did both drum and disc. Now just ordered a disc brake kit which is what I wanted just not now, but I know I’m better off that it’ll be done all at once.

by:

Exactly what I needed. Great online documentation. Speedy delivery

by:

Excellent quality. I had to drill an extra hole for mounting, no problem. No manual for bleeding or parts breakdown was included so I downloaded the manual from Demco website.

by:

It was delivered very quickly and on my doorstep. I bought this to put on a Tow Dolly I purchased to pull my car behind my motorhome. The surge brake will make it much safer going through the mountains on my way south. I also feel the price was great.

by:

Excellent support from Nicole in helping me confirm availability of all my material needs for my boat trailer brake upgrade from Drum to Disk. Have not actually done the install but parts arrived a day early and look to be high quality. This actuator is a perfect fit to replace my old drum brake surge actuator. Thanks Nicole!!

by:

Easy to install works great fast shipping thanks!

by:

SO far so good the unit showed up very quickly and I like the self locking unit. It should have keeper pin included with it other than that I like the design.

by:

This actuator has great features at an exceptional price. Also, it's proudly made in the USA!

by:

Great service and fast delivery

by:

Very polite fast shipment

by:

Excellent service as usual. The part was on backorder just like everything else. They were in constantly in contact keeping me updated. Hopefully I'll get to install it after the holiday.

  • Troubleshooting Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM62VR
I spoke to my contact at Demco and he told that the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM62VR should not slam forward when you slow down. He said this brake actuator is inertia based, meaning as you start to apply the brakes it will begin to slowly activate your trailer's brakes. It should not be where the brake actuator slams forward as you say. There are a couple of things he said that could be causing the problem. The first thing he said could be the issue are the bolts that hold the...

  • Can a Surge Brake Actuator for Drum Brakes Be Compatible with Disc Brakes?
Most brake actuators for drum brakes like your Dico 6000 lb cannot be used for disc brakes. This isn't based on weight capacity, but rather based on the pressure the master cylinder can handle. Most drum brake systems give you 1000 to 1200 psi, and disc brake systems require more with most rated at 1600 psi. The actuators are specific for disc or drum because drum brakes with a disc brake actuator would give too much pressure and in your case, the drum brake actuator will not give enough...

The reverse lockout solenoid wiring of your # DM62VR is not polarity specific. This means that you can use either as the power wire or the ground from your reverse light circuit. As long as one has power and the other ground you are good.

  • Bleeding Trailer Brakes After Installing Kodiak Disc Brake Kit
When bleeding the brakes on your trailer after installing the Kodiak Calipers you will first want to start with the brake that is furthest away from the actuator. Of the two bleeder valves, you will want to the bleeder valve that is on the top of the system. If you're manually bleeding the brakes, it would be easier to use a clear jar to collect the brake fluid so it would be easier to see if there are bubble or not in the fluid. Be sure to open the top bleeder valve when you are bleeding...

  • Picking Out Brakes for 2003 Mastercraft Maristar 210 Boat Trailer
I am sure we have a suitable replacement surge actuator for your trailer. But when I tried to look up your trailer on google every one of the pictures had the coupler cut off. If you could send me a picture of your coupler as well as the weight of your trailer when loaded I can give you our best recommendation. Do you need brake assemblies as well? That's the part that fits behind the hub/drum.

  • Demco Hydraulic Surge Brake Actuator Compatibility with Kodiak Disc Brakes

  • Weight of Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuating Coupler
Minus the packaging, the Demco # DM62VR Hydraulic Brake Actuating Coupler weighs about 18 lbs. The coupler is compatible with trailers weighing up to 7000 lbs with disc brakes. The coupler fits a 2 inch trailer ball, and is equipped with an electric lockout solenoid that will prevent the brakes from engaging when the tow vehicle is shifted into reverse, assuming that the coupler is installed correctly and the center pin of the 7-way on the tow vehicle is tied into the reverse lamp circuit. It uses a three hole pattern but the two holes will match the ones you have now and you can choose to drill the third lower hole or just use the top two. There are only two required. The brake line fittings will be the same.

Atwood is no longer around and parts for the Atwood 85778 are no longer available. Since there are no replacement options for the master cylinder your only choice is to replace the coupler with a new one. I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout # DM62VR. • Do I Need A Brake Actuator With Electric Lockout If I Want To Back Up My Boat Trailer
It depends on if your boat trailer has free-backing brakes. These brakes will allow you to drive in reverse without the actuator activating your trailer's brakes. The Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator - Drum - Zinc - 2" Ball - 7,000 lbs, part # DM72VR, will work if you have the free-backing brakes. If not, you will need Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout - Disc - Zinc - 2" Ball - 7,000 lbs, part # DM62VR. I have included a product description link and video demo links below.

  • Replacement Part Availability And Options For Replacing An Atwood Brake Actuator
Replacement parts for an Atwood actuator are going to be very hard to find these days. Atwood stopped producing actuators quite a while back, so at this point unless you can find parts secondhand, replacing the actuator is going to be your best bet.
