Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the A-Frame Coupler with Black Paint Finish

Today we're going to take a look at the A frame trigger latch coupler with the black powder coat finish, for a two inch hitch ball. This A frame coupler will let you hook up your trailer to you tow vehicle, provide you a connection point for the hitch ball. Now this uses a trigger latch design, which allows for safe and easy coupling and uncoupling of your trailer to the hitch ball. Basically you just put your finger on the trigger latch right here, pull up on it, then pull up on the latch itself, and that'll open up the ball socket underneath. Basically the way to install it, I happen to pull here a two inch diameter hitch ball. Basically you just drop it with it in the open position, you drop the coupler right on to the hitch ball, and then just fully completely close your trigger latch. As you do that, the trigger latch will actually lock into place right there, and then you're all attached, ready to go.

If you want to, the hole right here will allow for a coupler lock to go through, for extra security. To release it, just pull up on the trigger latch, lift the latch up and it'll release it from the hitch ball. This is made of a sturdy steel construction, has a nice black powder coat finish, to provide corrosion resistance. It is an A frame design, so it is designed to mount to a fifty degree trailer tongues. It is a weld-on installation, it is also SAEJ684 certified. If you notice the hole here in the back, that is your built-in jack attachment point, allows for quick, easy mounting of a round utility jack.

The hole diamter right there, I'll put a measurement on it for you, it's going to be right at two and a quarter inches. You also notice there's three threaded holes right here for installation of the jack, so it will require three, three eighths by sixteen inch sized bolts for installing your jack to this. Again, this is designed to fit a ball size of two inches, total weight capacity on it is five thousand pounds, tongue weight capacity is seven hundred pounds. The pinhole diameter right here, which is designed for the coupler lock is five sixteenths of an inch, and just to give you some overall dimensions, the width from edge to edge is going to be right at ten inches. The length from this end to this end is going to be right at thirteen and three eighths inches long. That should do it for the review of the A frame, trigger latch coupler, with the black powder coat finish, for the two inch hitch ball..

  • Replacement for Shelby 5101 Coupler
Based on my research the Shelby 5101 is an A-frame coupler with a 2" ball and 5,000 lb capacity. We have exactly that with the A-Frame Coupler # CA5100B, which has a trigger latch and has a black paint finish. The same coupler is available with a simple zinc finish, part # CA-5100-Z. I've added links to video reviews of both couplers for you to take a look at.

  • Trailer Ball is Loose in Coupler
Some couplers can be adjusted so that the wedge will grab the trailer ball more tightly, but since the coupler you're using has no adjustment available, I'd first confirm that you are using the correct trailer ball size for your coupler. The required ball size for the coupler should be stamped into the metal on the top of the coupler. If you were using a 1-7/8 trailer ball with a coupler designed for a 2 inch ball, it would explain why the ball is loose in the coupler. If this is the case,...

  • Recommended Trailer Coupler Lock for A-Frame with Trigger Latch
Do you have a photo of your trailer coupler? If it looks like the A-Frame Coupler part # CA5100B then yes, the Master Lock Heavy-Duty Coupler and Latch Lock Combo part # 3784DAT should work for you as that is what it is primarily designed to fit. I have attached a review video on a straight trailer coupler but it will also work on a-frame trailer couplers as well.

  • Troubleshooting Coupler Difficulties With A 2015 Jayco Jay Flight 26BHS Travel Trailer
The Repair Kit for etrailer and Ram A-Frame Couplers # CA-5100-RK only fits the following couplers # CA5100B, CA-5100-BLB, and # CA-5100-Z, so it would not solve your connection difficulty, unless you had one of these specific couplers. Aside from lubing the hitch ball the only other solution would be to replace your coupler with an easier coupling design like the Demco A-Frame Trailer Coupler w/ Jack Hole - eZ-Latch # DM14793-97 or the weld-on version # DM14791-97. The eZ-Latch coupler...

  • Can Weld-On Trailer Coupler Also Have Bolts Secure it
Hey Michael, there's no reason you couldn't do that. It would be a bit redundant but it wouldn't compromise the welds or the coupler in anyway.

  • Recommended A-Frame Jack And A-Frame Coupler For Custom Boat Trailer
We don't have any A-frame jacks with the outer tube measurement of 1-3/4 inches. All of our standard jacks have a minimum of a 2 inch inner tube and 2-1/4 inch outer tube diameter like you find on the Round A-Frame Trailer Jack - Topwind - 14-3/4" Travel - 2,000 lbs, # TJA-2002-B. These jacks come in a wide variety of capacities and with different foot or wheel options. My recommendation because you do have the mounting flange measurements is to get the proper jack for your capacity...

  • A-Frame Coupler For 2015 H&H Enclosed Trailer
When looking up the specs for the H&H CA Series Flat Top Single Axle Cargo it said that this trailer uses a 2” A-frame coupler. The A-Frame Coupler Item # CA5100B will work with your trailer. It has a 2-1/4" hole diameter for jack: It requires (3) 3/8"-16 bolts for installation (not included). It will need to be welded on. If you need a bolt on coupler # DM14793-81 will work also. I have attached all of our 2" A-Frame Couplers to this page.

  • Replacement Coupler Recommendation for Fulton 33305
It doesn't look like we have an exact replacement coupler latch kit available for your trailer coupler. Your best option would be to replace your coupler with something like the # CA5100B which is also a A-frame coupler designed for a 2 inch ball but it has a 10k capacity.

  • Coupler for A-Frame Trailer
The type of coupler you have is actually pretty common as it's an a-frame style like the part # CA5100B. This does not have holes in it but we don't have an option that does so you could either weld this on or drill holes to use the current holes you have.

  • Availability Of Repair Kit For A Fulton 5,000 lb 2" A-Frame Coupler
Hello Jason. Unfortunately we do not offer a repair kit specifically for the Fulton 5,000 lb 2" A-frame couplers. It is possible that the # CA-5100-RK repair kit would work, since the Ram models are quite similar to the Fulton. We have never tested this ourselves though, so I really can't say if it will or will not work. If your coupler is in need of repair, I would have to recommend replacing the coupler entirely with a new one. Something like part # CA5100B is a very similar 5,000 lb...

  • Wedge Style Latches Vs. Trigger Latches on A-Frame Couplers
The main difference between the wedge style latches and the trigger latches is in the capacity of the coupler. The lighter capacity couplers will use a trigger latch, whereas the higher capacity couplers will use wedge latches. For example, the Bulldog Heavy-Duty Cast Head Coupler w/ Wedge Latch # BD44125W0317 that you referenced uses a wedge latch and has a capacity of 12,500 lbs. An A-Frame Coupler # CA5100B uses a trigger latch and has a capacity of 5,000 lbs. Either style will work...

For a replacement coupler there are a couple different options, depending on the weight capacity you require. These are bolt-on A-frame couplers that accept a 2" ball: - 5,000 lbs: A-Frame Coupler with Black Paint Finish # CA5100B - 7,000 lbs: Sleeve-Lock A-Frame Trailer Coupler - Flip Latch # CA-5196-B

  • Trailer Coupler Lock Recommendation When MasterLock and DeadBolt are Too Long
If you want a bar and key style lock like the deadbolt, the smallest span that will still fit your coupler is 2 inches. So you will have 3/4 inches left over. Since you have already tried MasterLock and Deadbolt, maybe you would be interested in a different type of lock. I have included a link to our coupler lock main page for you to view. You might find something like the Gorilla Guard, # 63227, will give you a better fit.
