Video Transcript for Set up: Curt Pop-In Ball for Factory Ford and Ram Underbed Gooseneck Hitches on a 2022 Ram 2500

Hi, everyone. Aiden here at etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at this replacement gooseneck ball for your factory puck systems on our 2022 Ram 2500. Now, you can, of course, get this in the full kit that comes with the ball and the safety chain loops, but this is going to be just the replacement ball. So, if yours has become damaged or missing and you need to replace just that part, then this is the video for you. Let's check it out.

Now, this is designed to work with Ram and Super Duty trucks from Ford. So, if you've got a different truck this isn't the video for you. This is just to confirm that on our 2022 Ram 2500 that this is a fit and it's gonna function just like the old one did. You've got that ball bearing underneath that becomes locked whenever you throw that latch on top. So, that's how we pop it in and out of that factory puck system and lock it in place, and it's gonna give you the same 30,000 pound gross trailer weight rating.

It's got the same chrome plated steel construction so that chrome plating should help it resist rust and corrosion over time, but that is something to watch out for. If it does scratch away, then it may be susceptible to that wear and tear from weathering. And that's all there is to it. Again, this does get offered in a full kit with everything you need to get started if you're building from the ground up. This is just for a replacement.

Since there's nothing that really locks this in from people grabbing it, that might be something to consider, but even if it just becomes worn down over time, this is the replacement. So, if you need any of the other pieces, then you can look at those replacement videos, too. But that's just been our quick look at the replacement gooseneck ball from Curt and designed for your factory puck systems on our 2022 Ram 2500. Thanks for watching.

  • How to Remove the Curt Pop-In Ball # C60601 with Broken Release on a 2016 Ram
I spoke with my contact at Curt who told me that there is an access hole at the bottom of the OEM gooseneck hitch on your 2016 Ram. You are going to look for an aluminum or plastic plug that once removed will allow you to retract the locking mechanism on the Curt Pop-In Ball # C60601. Please note that if you have left the hitch ball in your gooseneck hitch for a while (5 months or more) without applying grease to it then there could very well be some rust that is built up as well. You...

  • Difference Between Curt Gooseneck Hitch Balls For 2024 Ram 2500 Puck Systems
Hey Chris, I checked with Curt and they said the Curt Pop-In Ball # C60601 is compatible with Ram 2500 and 3500 OEM puck systems and Curt OEM-style goosenecks for those trucks, but not other gooseneck ball holes. The Curt Pop-In Ball # C60629, per Curt, is compatible with Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Nissan and Ram puck systems and all Curt OEM-style goosenecks.

  • Why Couldnt Convert-A-Ball Fifth Wheel/Gooseneck Adapter Be Used with 2019 Ford F250 Super Duty
The Convert-a-Ball Adapter # CAB-C5GX1216 that you referenced can't be used with gooseneck balls that have the plastic latch mechanisms on the top of the balls like what you most likely have. These are known as "pop-in" balls. The issue is that the Convert a Ball ends up damaging the release mechanism. [Edit: if the latch is metal it won't be an issue] We do have the very similar Ranch Hitch Adapter part # AM3139 which you could use as it does not have this fit exclusion. It's the same...

  • Tips To Help Remove A Stuck Reese Pop-In Gooseneck Ball On A 2016 Ford F-350 Super Duty
While this is not a super common issue, this has happened before in the past and we do have a couple of solutions you can try to free up your stuck Curt Pop-In Ball for Factory Ford and Ram Underbed Gooseneck Hitches # C60601. If the hitch ball has been left inside your gooseneck hitch for more than 5 months, rust may have built up, which could be contributing to the ball not being able to be released. You will need to use some spray lubricant like WD-40 to help loosen up the hitch ball....

  • Finding a Replacement Ball for an Unknown Gooseneck Hitch in a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500
Curt Pop-In Ball # C60601 is designed specifically for 2011 to 2018 Ford trucks with the factory installed gooseneck prep package or 2013 to 2018 Ram trucks with the factory installed gooseneck prep package. If the truck you bought is not one of those then this ball won't fit even if the shank is the right size (shank is 2-1/4 inches in diameter). You didn't mention the year, make, and model of the truck so if you can give me that information I can see which gooseneck hitches are available...

  • How To Use the Convert-A-Ball Multi-Cushioned Gooseneck Coupler With Ram Factory Gooseneck Hitch
Yes, I do have options for a Ram 3500 to use with the Convert-A-Ball Multi-Cushioned Gooseneck Trailer Coupler part # CG. The Curt Pop-In Ball for Factory Ford and Ram Underbed Gooseneck Hitches part # C60601 will work just fine. The issue with the Convert-A-Ball Multi-Cushioned Gooseneck Trailer Coupler is not the placement of the lever but rather the construction. Your Curt Pop-In Ball for Factory Ford and Ram Underbed Gooseneck Hitches - 2-5/16" Diameter Ball # C60601 lifts the pin when that lever is lifted. Because that lever is broken off you will need to lift that pin and turn it 90 degrees to release the ball bearings that hold the hitch ball in the unit frame. You may want to use some penetrating oil below where you need to grip the pin just to allow a more free movement of the pin and the ball bearings.

I have linked a diagram below that will show you the dimensions. It does come in a complete kit with safety chains Item # C60618. I didn't see your order number so I am not sure if you are able to return yours for something that will work.

  • Shank Dimensions of Curt Pop-In Gooseneck Ball for Ford, GM, and Nissan Factory Gooseneck Hitches
The Curt Pop-In Ball, part # C60629, has a shank with a diameter of 2-1/4 inches and is 3 inches long. It's designed specifically to fit the factory gooseneck hitches that are an option with newer model Fords, GMs, and Nissans. If this is what you have then the hitch ball will fit your truck. If you have a different model truck, or don't have a factory gooseneck hitch, let me know what you have and I'll see if we have a ball that will work for you. For example if you have a Ram with...

  • Will Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch Ball Fit 2015 Ram OEM Gooseneck Hitch?
The Curt Hitch Ball # C60616 from the Curt Double Lock, Flip and Store Gooseneck Hitch # C60620 will not fit in the 2015 Ram OEM Hitch. The Ram system utilizes a completely different securing system, so I recommend the Curt Ball and Safety Chain Loops Kit for Ram Underbed Gooseneck Hitch # C60618. If you just want the hitch ball, that is part # C60601.

Since the Curt Pop-In Ball for Factory Ford and Ram Underbed Gooseneck Hitches - 2-5/16" Diameter Ball # C60601 you have in your 2018 Ram has been lubricated, I recommend removing the rubber plug you mentioned at the bottom of the ball and manually turn the paddle to release the pressure on the ball bearings. It is possible that if the ball has been in the truck for some time that corrosion is holding the bearings out and not allowing them to retract easily. You may need to use a hammer...

  • Best Way to Loosen a Seized Gooseneck Hitch Ball
You're doing all of the correct things. Unfortunately when a gooseneck hitch ball hasn't been removed for a longer period of time and/or had lubricant applied it can seize up in the receiver which it sounds like is what happened to you. Applying some lubricant and hitting it with a mallet is the best thing you can honestly do in this situation.
