Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's side and passenger's side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

I bought heat shrink to weather proof the splices, I also purchased electrical grease for the connection's. Maybe I did not understand the video but it took me a while to understand that not every bulb had to be connected. If I had understood that it probably won't have taken two hour's also you will need more tie wraps.As others have said the wire to the battery does take time.But I was able to buy the extra supplies and a batt.ratchet,a heat gun and still saved MONEY doing it myself. I am pleased with my purchase.
The 4-pole wiring harness arrived quickly, actually earlier than expected, and installation was fairly simple. The eTrailer videos were a great help. The hardest part of the installation was running the power wire to the battery, just as described by others. I do recommend using heat shrink butt connectors they made the install look very water and weathertight.
Easy to set up and install, I would recommend getting some more zip ties and some conduit to house the wire (up to you)
Hitch fit perfectly and took about a half hour to install in my driveway. Only basic tools and a torque wrench, no jacks required. Electrical took a little bit longer but the routing path in the Tacoma was ideal. The video was very helpful with the electrical. Being a cautious sort I used a 1/4” poly overwrap to further protect the provided heavy duty 12 gauge power wire. Measured idle current was around 1mA. Total job saved me hundreds over Toyota factory.
Opened package, read instructions, installed the wiring harness. Tested to insure all worked. At 75 I don't move as fast as I used to but it was an easy install. Thanks

Fit exactly as it was supposed to. Very easy installation. Would 100% buy this brand again.
Threading two of the bolts down the frame was a PIA. While not difficult, it required significant fussing around with the wire, and moving the head of the bolt up.
The hitch works perfectly, and is very solid.
I haven't done the wiring yet, as this is for a boat I use only in summertime!
Product was an easy install. I found a YouTube video to clear one thing up. I just had to search for the brand name and vehicle make and year along with what the part was and the video was one of the first three. Thankful they provided a video for install as I always appreciate when a company does that.
Dropped in my garage like this. Box clearly opened by someone else not one staple was closed. Will open when home hopefully wiring kit is still inside

This product is totally worth the money!!!! Everything worked the first time .. the install was very easy, only thing that was a little difficult was running the positive cable from the battery to the rear bumber.. just take your time and follow the chassis, that was a big help.. I bought this product to install rear led brake light strip and wanted to hide the cables to give it a oem look.. would definitely recommend this product!
The only hard part is running the power wire to the battery. Besides that it's plug and play.
Very easy install, wire quality appears good. I spent extra time making sure I tied everything down. The video was a big help also.
Does its job, very simple, longest part is running wires and securing with zip ties. Works great! If you watch the video on Etrailer from the older model you get a good idea of how it all goes together it’s only slightly different.

Ordered, this kit along with towing package for my son's '22 Tacoma, everything fit and performed as it was advertised.
I haven't installed it yet but the packaging was pretty terrible. Taped together and full of dirt.

Ironically, this is the second time I’ve purchased C56349 for my 2016 Toyota Tacoma. Both times I installed this product, it was extremely easy. The installation instructions are fantastic. I unfortunately had to buy this product a second time because the RV dealer where I purchased my camper cut into the circuit board wiring for no apparent reason. FYI, Curt does not issue the wire diagram for the circuit board, which I understand. Happy that I got this product 2x for a great price!
Very complicated to install. Had to hire a pro.
