Video Transcript for The Low-Down on the Curt Fusion Ball Mount for 2" Hitches

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number C45151. This is Curt fusion ball mount for 2 inch hitches. It's going to offer a gross towing weight of 5,000 lb with a maximum tongue weight of 500 lb. The ball mount is going to have the permanently attached 1 7/8 inch ball that's going to let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank portion is going to be the portion that slides into the receiver tube of your hitch and then your hitch ball is going to provide a good connection point for your trailer's coupler. The neat thing about the fusion is that the hitch ball is actually welded to the ball mount platform so there's no need to torque it. It's going to be set and ready to go straight out of the box.

You can also see here that we do not have anything hanging below the ball platform so that's a nice smooth, steel surface at this portion right here. The neat think about the fusion is that it's going to prevent theft of the hitch ball. It's also going to eliminate the possibility of your hitch ball being able to loosen up. It's always going to be able to provide a nice, strong and secure towing setup. It's made from a sturdy steel construction. We're going to have a nice black powder coat finish on the actual ball mount with a chrome plated hitch ball. You can see right here that you are going to get a standard 5/8 inch pin and clip.

If you need a hitch pin and lock to lock this to your vehicle that's going to be sold separately. You can find that with part number 7683, but it does come with a hitch pin and clip to get it secured in your hitch. It is designed for 2 inch by 2 inch trailer hitch receivers. It's going to have a nice hollow shank here on the backside. Again, you're going to have a 1 7/8 inch hitch ball. A few measurements that I want to go over with you real quick.

The first one being the distance that we have from the center of the hitch pinhole to the center of the hitch ball. That's going to give us a measurement of about 8 1/8 of an inch. The distance that we have from the center of the hitch pinhole to the back of the shank is going to measure about 2 1/5 inches. This can only be used in the drop position. I measured from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform.

It's going to give us a drop of 3 1/2 inches. You're going to notice here that on the Curt sticker, they put a 4 inch drop measurement on here. That's an approximate or an estimate or a rounded number, but the exact drop is going to be 3 1/2 inches. Again, that's from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. Curt's also going to cover this with a limited lifetime warranty. I'm going to go ahead and show you how it installs inside your hitch. All you have to do is take the shank, slide it into the receiver tube until you get your pinholes to line up with one another and then you simply just insert the included hitch pin and clip. That's going to do it for our review of part number C45151. This is the Curt fusion ball mount for 2 inch hitches with a 5,000 lb gross towing weight capacity. .

Just received the hitch, receiver, and harness. All in excellent condition.
Hitch is now installed.
I'll have to do the harness Saturday, since the lights on my trailer don't work anyway, lol.

Thanks for all your help.

My experience with etrailer.com was positive all the way around. I received my product before the date that I was given. Once I received the product is was top of the line. I will for sure be ordering from etrailer.com again and again.

by:

Well made hitch. Just the right drop for my Polaris Ranger and trailer.

by:

Quick transaction - great quality.

by:

Great product the only downside was it was out of stock when ordered and I was not notified at checkout. They did however have this item delivered within a two weeks so it did not create an issue for me.

by:

Pretty simple did what it was supposed to

Purchased for a 2006 Jeep liberty. the only issue I have is that it connects right below the spare tire, making trailer attachment more difficult that it should be. If I had gotten a slightly longer hitch, wouldn't have been an issue. It's not a deal breaker, and the hitch itself has works perfectly.

by:

I haul a 5.5x10 open trailer w/ a 900 lb. ZTR, a push mower, and a handful of other tools 3 days a week. It is what it is. It does the job, no problem.

A little finish wear and rust on the ball, but nothing major. I LIVE ON A DIRT ROAD, which is probably responsible for the wear.

by:

Nice solid (not hollow) and WELDED hitch. Have logged about 5,000 miles this year with no problems. I had many problems with bolted on balls, welded hitches are the way to go.

by:

It works. I WOULD order from etrailer.com again.

by:

This was the right set up for my 2018 4Runner. Works great. As a footnote, I now have a second vehicle for towing (2019 Tundra 4X4). Using the measuring process provided by etrailer folks, I found the same ball works great on the Tundra.
Thanks!

All of the products I've have bought for my trailer project from etrailer have been great. My go-to place for anything trailer related!

by:

I am very happy with my trailer hitch receiver from etrailer. I installed one on my 2011 Toyota rav4 for towing a small teardrop trailer I made during the pandemic. I also purchased a wiring harness to power the trailer lights from etrailer and after some doing have it working well. The cost of doing it myself was a small fraction of having the dealership do the work. The hitch receiver is easy to install as there are pre drilled holes to receive bolts in the frame. The wiring is a bit more complicated but I did it. God bless online videos. I'm happy with the results.

by:

Works fine, but it's a little loose in the receiver which makes it annoyingly loud at times. It will rattle up and down particularly when pulling a trailer with a light load or low tongue weight. It's bad enough I've tried shimming it which did help. Functionally it's fine. It's just annoying.

by:

Solid product. Very clear and accurate installation instructions customized exactly to my specific vehicle year and model.

by:

I haven't used this yet, but will be shortly. I had a 2" drop ball mount that served double duty for my utility trailer and our pop-up camper. I had a small extension welded onto my previous mount for a friction sway-controller that I used with the pop-up. We sold the pop-up a couple of weeks ago, and I figured that it would be worth setting the new owner up right with the correct ball mount that also accommodates the sway-controller.

Also, where I was towing with a 2003 Ford Explorer with an aftermarket hitch before, I now have a 2013 Explorer with the factory tow package and the receiver is tucked up higher. This makes my utility trailer tongue-high and not handle the highways so well. The 3 1/2" drop should cure this.

Again, as always, the service and shipping from etrailer.com are top notch.

by:

Haven't set this up yet but quality feels good. User error on my part as this is not a ball I can replace but the flat bed I plan on buying for my motorcycle is a 2" so not a big deal and the price was a decent buy.

by:

Exactly what I needed for my new Subaru hitch and quick delivery. Fusion ball mount nice feature..no need to remember to tighten before each use.

by:

The ball on this hitch is not spherical. If you clamp it into a trailer hitch, it rattles up and down (though not side-to-side). Other ball hitches in my arsenal (from different tow vehicles) are held snugly and don't rattle in any direction. Although not a safety issue, I don't like hearing the rattle on bumpy roads.

by:

Joann came through on this order. Five stars for her.

by:

Perfect drop and keeps our RV trailer level. Good quality and shows no sign of wear.

by:

This is the second time I have ordered a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and ball mount. Once again, the installation instructions, especially the videos, were excellent, and everything was a perfect fit for my vehicle. Thanks very much!

  • How to Use 6" Drop Ball Mount and Hitch Bike Rack on 2017 Chevy Tahoe
I have an alternative solution for you but it will look a little different than the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount # D210 as the 2" drop you're seeing is pretty standard. To tow your trailer and carry your Thule bike rack I recommend checking out the Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount # 325-GH-204 which gives you the upper receiver as well as a 5" drop for the lowest receiver. If you have a ball mount with a 1" drop then that's what you'll use for this application, otherwise...

  • Most Affordable Trailer Hitch Receiver And Trailer Wiring Kit For 2020 Audi SQ5
The most affordable route is to install Trailer Hitch Receiver # e94CR for your hitch receiver then for a trailer wiring kit you can use Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59496. For a ball mount to slide into the receiver that will allow fitment to your trailer, I recommend looking into Curt Fusion Ball Mount for 2" Hitches 1-7/8" Ball # C45151 if your trailer coupler is 1-7/8" or TowSmart Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches - 2" Ball # TS94FR if your trailer coupler...

  • Curt Ball Mount with Drop Near 3-1/4 inch
The closest we have is the Curt part # C45230 which has a drop of 3-5/8 inches or the # C45154 which has a 3-1/2 inch drop and a 2 inch ball or part # C45151 which has the same drop and a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball.

  • Solution for Bouncing Trailer with Low Tongue Weight
A weight distribution system wouldn't really help much in your situation. What you can do to help with the bounce is try moving weight up near the front of the trailer so that you can get the tongue weight of the trailer to be 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight. Getting the trailer as level as possible will also help. If your trailer is sitting nose high currently then that will also contribute to the bouncing. The part # C45154 is a 3 inch drop ball mount with a 2 inch hitch ball....

  • How Close to Level Does Ball Mount Need To Place Trailer Ball
When you calculate the ball mount rise or drop needed, in many cases it won't be possible to find a ball mount that puts you exactly level. As long as the ball mount places you within an inch or two of being level, you'll be fine. A 1/2 inch difference would certainly fall into the 'close enough' category. If you have the choice of being a bit higher or a bit lower than level, it's best to be higher than level if possible. In some cases, the trailer's tongue weight can cause the rear suspension...
