Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, I'm gonna take a look at this Curt heavy duty forged ball mount with the 2 5/16 inch diameter ball for a 2 1/2 inch hitch. Has a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this ball mount with this attached hitch ball will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. A shank portion right here is what'll slide into your vehicle's 2 1/2 inch hitch receiver and up front, the hitch ball right here provides the connection point for your trailer's coupler. And as we mentioned, the ball size it's 2 5/16 diameter.
The ball mount will provide a drop or a rise to fit your application. It's an nice solid one-piece forged steel construction, uses corrosion resistant carbide black powder coat finish on it and then a chrome plating on the ball. Now, if you put it in the drop position, which would be this position, it'll get you a maximum drop of 8 inches. And that's from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. We mentioned if you flip this over and put it into your hitch, you'll get a rise, but you do need to make sure you remember you have to break this ball loose and switch that over also.
The rise it'll get you is a 6 1/2 inch maximum rise. The hitch ball does come installed and torqued to factory specs. We mentioned it's a corrosion-resistant chrome plating on it. Now to install this into hitch receiver, it will require a hitch pin and clip or a hitch lock to secure the ball mount to your hitch receiver, and that is not included. We do sell those separate on our website.
The hitch pin and clip which will go through the hole right here, the hole is 5/8 of an inch diameter. So if you already have a 5/8 inch diameter hitch pin it should work for you. And also we mentioned the hitch lock. If you want to actually lock this to your hitch so nobody would take it, we do sell those separately also Application again, it fits 2 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 trailer hitch receiver. Gross towing weight capacity is 20,000 pounds, tongue weight capacity of 2000 pounds.
One note I do wanna mention that if you do use this in the rise position where you flip it over, the capacities will change to a gross towing weight of 16,000 pounds or a tongue weight of 1600 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Curt heavy duty forged ball mount with the 2 5/16 diameter ball for a 2 1/2 inch hitch..
