Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Integrated Active Sway Control

The TruTrack weight distribution system works to stop trailer sway before it begins. This is achieved primarily thanks to the specially designed system head.

TruTrack Spring-Loaded Ball Bearings in Detents

On top of the trunnions, there are spring-loaded ball bearings that rest in detents built into the underside of the head. As you travel down the road normally, these ball bearings help to keep the trailer in a straight line by applying pressure inside these detents.

TruTrack Spring-Loaded Ball Bearings out of Detents

When sway occurs, the trunnions move inside the head, causing the ball bearings to come out of these detents. When this happens, the ball bearings ride along internal grooves in the head as they work to return to the detents to snap the trunnion back in place. This action effectively returns your trailer to center.

TruTrack Spring Bar Bracket

Additional sway control is created by the spring bar brackets. Most traditional weight distribution systems have spring bars that are suspended by chains. Although this ensures that the system is not so rigid as to create bounce in the trailer, it also permits a good deal of side-to-side play in the system. Allowing the spring bars to hang freely also minimizes the tension described earlier. This limits your system's ability to hold your trailer in line behind your tow vehicle.

Not only do the brackets on the TruTrack work to constantly hold your trailer in line, but they also supply friction to force it back into place should any sway occur. The concept is similar to the way in which an add-on friction sway control device functions. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. The resistance created by this action limits the movement of the spring bar, thus preventing further side-to-side movement of the trailer.

Forged Steel Spring Bars

The TruTrack's spring bars are made from forged steel, giving them a distinct advantage over typical cast steel bars. Forging is a process where thermal and mechanical energy are applied to the steel, resulting in a finished product that is more resilient to impacts and is stronger in terms of shear strength. Simply put, the TruTrack's spring bars do a superior job of helping to hold your trailer in line because of their added strength and durability.

Simple Spring Bar Setup

TruTrack Spring Bar Install

The support brackets of the TruTrack easily clamp onto your trailer frame to provide the attachment points for the weight distribution spring bars. To position the spring bars on the brackets during hookup, simply use the included snap-up lever to lift each bar onto an L-shaped bracket. Then secure the bars in place with the included L-pins and clips.

Gosh, Glen! I am so sorry it arrived missing so much! I see you have already been in contact with our customer service team. It looks like they shipped the parts to you yesterday and had them expedited. Please let us know if you need anything else!

The Curt WDH was a fairly simple install on our 20' travel trailer and tow vehicle. This is a quality made product and gives us a sense of security and better ride in our vehicle when towing.

great

by:

The Curt TruTrack is an excellent system. Easy to install, quite and makes my single axle camper follow with absolutely no sway or porpoising. After looking at different brands I decided on the Curt because of price and the four point sway prevention.

I had questions on whether it would work with my underslung camper coupler. Mike was great help in determining that it would.

by:

Price wasn't terrible, assembly and installation was pretty simple, instruction were great. I have a 2019 ram 1500 with a 2 inch lift. Camper is a 27ft dry weight is 5900 lbs with a 600lb tongue weight. Pulls like a dream. I can cruise at 74mph with little to no sway. When hit with a gust of wind, the weight distribution/sway bars correct the sway very quickly. Very happy with the setup. Called customer service to track the package delivery as I recieved the hitch ball the day before the hitch setup arrived. She was extremely friendly and was able to track my other package very quickly and give me an eta. Great experience all around

by:

Put theses on because I have a bumper mounted hitch to haul a cargo carrier. I think they definitely will help out in the long run

by:

This TRU Track is great no more sagging, No more trailer swaying and the trailer response and control is outstanding.

by:

Very strong system. Best to put on when trailer is lined up and level to tow vehicle. Does make some noise when turning, but does it's job as anti sway and weight distributing.

by:

Moved on to a motorhome, but this hitch did the trick with my bumper pull when I had it. Major winds and a lot of miles in the plains and rocky mountains and it handles like a champ. Made all the difference. Highly recommend.

by:

I've had this system for over 2 years and it is a great setup. Works as advertised. Very easy to connect to the vehicle and to store away. Very smooth towing with this installed and it has proven itself in many windy storms.

by:

Great hitch for the price. Does everything I need plus move. Pull my camper through the mountain over the continental divide and no issues. I would recommend it to anyone

by:

I've been using this hitch for a year now and I don't think I will ever use a different one. Upgraded from a chain type hitch to this one and immediately noticed a difference. No more white knuckles. I feel comfortable driving everywhere with one hand on the steering wheel. My hitch is the 8k and my TT gross is 77k. The only drawback that I've seen is that you have to watch hitting the trailer during very sharp turns. I will be purchasing the trutrack again after upgrading my travel trailer.

by:

Installed it this past Saturday morning, for a new, larger/longer trailer that swayed a bit with my older chain-link equalizer system. Like doing anything the first time, it took awhile longer, figuring things out and having tools laid out. It would go much faster next time! Good instructions, got the set-up pretty good the first go-round (height and weight distribution and vehicle/trailer proper levels), did have to adjust it two more times to get it perfect. I do mean perfect. Got to the point adjusting height and loading on the equalizing/sway bars only took 15 minutes start to finish! Fine product, out on the road it worked great. The sway I had with the old chain-link equalizers was all but gone. Glad I spent the money for better safety!

Has worked as expected, performed well. I pull a 31 travel trailer with a 2018 Dodge Durango The match-up of pull vehicle to travel trailer is on the edge of acceptable and this set-up keeps it where it belongs, and on the very rare occasion, pulls it back where it belongs. 1000s of miles with no issues. I WISH they made a product that maintained friction and reduce some of the noise when turning sharp.

The Reese Straight line Weight Distribution system is great on cornering and with dual cam forms of sway control, they are quieter than standard bar and L bracket style weight distribution. For a similar tounge weight capacity as your curent Tru Track system you would want to check out the # RP6607. It is rated for up to 10,000 pounds and about 800 pounds of tongue weight. Depending on your trailer though you will need to select the correct size, adjustable shank, and trailer ball for this set up, either a 2 inch or 2-5/16.

Curt Weight distribution and anti sway hitch arrived a day before scheduled delivery. It was doubled boxed, and there were no missing parts. Good job etrailer. Some reviews reported missing parts because of the heavy weight breaking the box.

Great. We have traveled over 12,000 miles with this product, and we still have a smooth ride.

by:

took most of the day to put it together- but a heavy hearty piece of metal should be great on the road

by:

Just got the hitch.
Fast shipping. No
problems.
thank you

by:

Well I wish I had purchased the next size down. We pull a 4,000 lb trailer with 400 lb+ tongue weight. my thinking was, after we got the trailer loaded with all of our camping junk we would need this heavier hitch. This thing is a beast. it's very heavy. that said, it has plenty of adjustment to get your rig level, it also seems to take any sway out of the trailer. So, just give it some real thought before you add more weight to the back of your tow vehicle than you need.

by:

Fantastic. Had a Reese trunion bar system for many years with a friction sway control. Worked OK but was missing something; Had bouncing with some sway. Just felt sloppy going down the road. Trailer is 5500 lbs with 650 lbs of tongue weight. Set this up per instructions. measuring front and back of tow vehicle and couple height. Hooked everything up and it is like a dream towing now. So glad I mad the investment in this system. Tow so nicely with no bounding and no sway. One system does everything and very well. Takes some time to set up with measurement and all but not bad. Al in all a great system and would recommend it!

by:

This is my first install and use of a weight distribution/sway control hitch and it was a straight forward and easy process to do the install. It's been great to use and the ride near on my Tacoma is very smooth with a trailer close to my trucks published tow limits.

by:

Seems like a quality product, but do have a few issues.
1. The ball detent angle should be adjustable such that the bars center in alignment with the trailer frame. Each change results in about a 15 degree total angle change, so what happens is the left and right bar forces are working against each other with both balls out of detent while driving straight. The system needs finer adjustment so the balls can be in detent while driving straight.
2. Would be nice to have more than one bar choice, especially for a car hauler. Being able to swap out bars would allow setup running heavy and light without doing a head adjustment. With solid mounted bar hangars, it would be nice to be able to add some more spring tension without breaking out an impact. Due to this issue, I would say this sway control system is more suited to a trailer running a constant weight (travel trailer) rather than a trailer with a wider weight range (car hauler). Option B would be to give a second, lower tension shelf for the bar to be put on while running lighter. I may end up modifying my bar mounts to do this.

by:

Product is as advertised. The trailer feels more stable when towing, both sway and bounce. I bought it for bounce, because I have a 1500 and tow a KZ 18’ travel trailer and I cart about 1800 pounds of tools in the back of the truck.

The set up was simple. If you are not very handy it might take a little time, and get it with the ball already installed. I had to weld mine on, because Harbor Freights ball was 1” shank, and I needed it for the next day.

Thank you.
Joseph

by:

Just installed a week ago. Went on easy but instructions could be better. Etrailer videos made install a snap and only took 40 minutes. Make sure your hitch ball has a 1 1/4 “ shank as anything smaller will need an adapter. Makes my 33’ trailer sit and ride like a dream.

by:

etrailer customer support is excellent! I talked to Nick a couple of times before ordering a weight distribution hitch for my travel trailer. I received the hitch two days after ordering but unfortunately there was some shipping damage so I refused the shipment. The next day etrailer processed another shipment and two days later I received the hitch which was in excellent condition. I would highly recommend them because of their excellent service and support.

by:

Well worth it. The truck sits way more level and handles as if there wasn't even a trailer attached. This is my first weight distribution hitch so it took a while for me to set up but it wasn't too difficult.

by:

Just installed my curt weight distribution system on my truck. My truck use to slump terrible, where actually my chains would drag the ground and with my curt weight distribution system it is now perfectly level. I’m pulling 4600 pounds with my tractor and 20 ft trailer. Could not be more happy with the system and etrailer gets a big thumbs up for their help in getting me the right system and for their excellent customer service.

by:

Hitch was as expected. Sometime gets a little noisy from friction. One of the holding clips that holds the sway bar to the hitch broke and I’m concerned about losing it. Need to find another one
