by:

I needed a shank for my 30 year old Reese weight transfer hitch for my new truck... this fits great in my 2.5 inch hitch and the 2 inch Reese head fits on perfectly. Thanks,

by:

Great product, lighter weight than previous hitches I have owned, gave just the right amount of adjustability.

by:

I would have preferred to buy the kit with both shank and tongue, but it's a company purchase, so I'll accept the price gouging. I wish there were locking pins as well. Called the manufacturer and they said that they're coming soon. Well-constructed hitch, very impressed.

by:

Exactly as described and shipped the same day.

by:

Purchased this to replace the 2” I was using for my F250 after purchasing my F350. It was a pain to use the reducing sleeve and get the heavy hitch for my camper to line up with it to get the pin in. This was a perfect replacement. I was concerned it would work because the description and photos didn’t do a good job of showing it it 2.5” for the truck receiver and 2” to fit the hitch were it bolts in. A little pricey but worth every penny to eliminate fitting with the reducing sleeve!!

by:

This is a well made product and not so heavy as the welded DrawTite shank I was using previously. Most importantly, the hole pattern eliminates the dead zone other shanks have, where the attached hitch head is either too low or way too high.

I like that the hitch is shorter in length, as it reduces the leverage of the trailer tongue weight. Others may find this to be a drawback because the tailgate of a pickup truck might not open fully with a trailer attached due to shorter distance to the tongue jack.

This is one of the few shanks I could find that fit a Class V receiver and I will be purchasing more of these for our other tow vehicles. They are that nice!

by:

This is exactly what I was hoping for. Elimination of the wobbly 2 - 2.5 inch sleeve. This was a simple unbolt, rebolt using my current travel trailer hitch. Very sturdy hitch replacement.

by:

Bought a new truck which had a 2 1/2" receiver and did not like using a sleeve on the receiver pulling my travel trailer, this one worked great on it.

by:

This product is exactly what I expected it to be and came very quickly. I will now be able to get rid of the spacer sleeve that I have been using for my previous hitch. This was my first order with etrailer but certainly will not be my last. Their price guarantee and customer service cannot be matched.

by:

Bought this so I could eliminate the hitch sleeve when towing my toy hauler. Works great and fits well

by:

Works great with the Curt 17501.

by:

Product was exactly as stated and arrived quickly. etrailer answered all my questions and helped me find the rightt part. etrailer also has a great price match guarantee that I was able to use.

by:

Working with etrailer’s customer service is like talking with an old friend.

by:

Worked great! Heavy duty hitch.

by:

It arrived within a few days of ordering it and it's just what I needed.

Great hitch to get rid of the adapter sleeve.

by:

Payton helped me cancel a shank I ordered before it shipped and get the correct part. She was patient as I never ordered one before and had to measure the old part.

by:

Although my hitch isn’t a curt it was a perfect match for what I need

by:

Right on time and gr3eat communication.

by:

by:

Was ship out fast and product works great

by:

Nice quality worked for what I needed.

by:

As described. Quick shipping!

by:

Amazing customer assistance, fast product delivery. What could be better?

by:

As described. It fits perfectly on my 2016 F250.

  • Is 1-7/8" Hitch Ball Available to Fit Curt 2-1/2" Weight Distribution Shank
Hey Tony, thanks for reaching out! There aren't any 1-7/8" hitch balls that will fit the Curt Weight Distribution Shank # C17131 you're already using, but I do have a way you can tow your pig cooker by using the Curt Class III Ball Mount # C45055 along with the etrailer Magnetic Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve # e28JR. I know it's not exactly what you were hoping for, but the only alternative would be to purchase one of the adjustable tri-ball mounts that are a bit more costly than this setup.

  • Recommended Shank Replacement for Reese Steadi-Flex System with 2-1/2 Inch Hitch Receiver
The shank on the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 12K GTW, 1.2K TW # RP66560 requires a flat front for the head adjustment so the Reese # RP54977 will not work. You can alternatively use the Curt Weight Distribution Shank for 2-1/2" Hitches # C17132 or # C17131 for compatibility.

The Curt MV Weight Distribution System with Friction Sway Control System, Item # C17063, comes with a shank for a 2 inch receiver. You will have to add a shank for a 2-1/2 inch receiver like the Curt Weight Distribution Shank, Item # C17131. The Curt system has a tongue weight range from 1,000-lbs to 1,400-lbs and a gross towing weight of 14,000-lbs. In contrast, the Reese Strait-Line Distribution with Sway Control System, Item # RP66130, works with 2 inch and 2-1/2 inch trailer hitches....

  • Compatibility of Trailer Hitch Reducer Sleeve or 2-1/2 Inch WD Shank For New Truck Compatibility
A reducer like the Curt Reducer Sleeve 2-1/2" to 2" # C45405 will work with your current shank without any loss of capacity. Because there is another moving part, it may give you slightly more noise than using a 2-1/2 inch shank like # C17131 which will give you the 2 inch drop you referenced. If it were me, I'd use the Curt reducer sleeve.

  • Do Curt Weight Distribution Systems Come With Shank to Fit 2-1/2 inch Hitch
Curt has weight distribution shanks you can use with the # C17501 that fit the 2-1/2 inch hitch size like the part # C17131 which can do up to a 2 inch drop or part # C17132 which can provide up to 8 inches of drop but we do not offer the Curt kits with the 2-1/2 inch shanks. The most similar system that does come with a 2-1/2 inch hitch size shank is the part # EQ34FR which I would highly recommend. It has a tongue weight range of 1,200-1,600 lb, comes with a hitch ball and is widely...

  • Replacement Shank Recommendation for Weight Distribution to Fit 2-1/2 inch Shank
It's most likely due to the hitch adapter you are using since it's not common at all to see hitch pins bend like you mentioned. Best solution for that would be to swap out your current shank to one that is designed to fit the larger hitch size you have of 2-1/2 inches like the Curt part # C17131. This will fit the head of your weight distribution system and allows you to fit your vehicle hitch without using an adapter.

  • Do Most Weight Distribution System Heads Bolt Up to the Same Shanks
Most of the weight distribution shanks like the # C17131 that you referenced are compatible with the heads of different brands systems. If the distance between the mounting holes on the shank you currently have are 1-1/4 inches apart and are 3/4 inch in diameter the Curt shank you referenced would fit. I attached a picture that shows what most shank hole dimensions are.

The Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank - 2-1/2" Hitch - 10" Rise/6" Drop - 600 to 1,600 lbs TW # EQ90-02-4900 will be a great choice for your 1400 lb system and will work just as well as the Curt shank # C17131 while keeping the same brand which isn't required but is preferable. You shouldn't have any trouble with this shank when correctly used with the Equal-I-zer # EQ37140ET system which is the largest Equal-i-zer system available.

  • Compatibility of Curt C17131 Shank with Tuff Tow Weight Distribution
We don't carry TuffTow W/D kits, but a quick measurement of the width of the upright on your existing shank and the adjustment hole spacing will confirm if the Curt shank will work for you. As long as your current weight distribution hitch head fits a 2 inch wide upright, and your current shank has the adjustment holes that are 1-1/4 inches apart, measured center to center (which is the industry standard), the Curt # C17131 2-1/2 inch shank would work great for you. • Choosing Correct Weight Distribution Shank
To determine the amount of drop you'll need your replacement shank to have, take a height measurement from the top inside edge of the receiver tube to the ground, then measure from the bottom of the trailer's coupler to the ground (make sure trailer is level when taking the measurement) then subtract the coupler height from the hitch height. The result is the amount of drop you'll need. We do offer weight distribution shanks for 2-1/2 inch receivers, and the hole spacing for the weight...

  • Will Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution Hitch C17501 Work With 9,900 lb GVWR Trailer
The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System with Sway Control # C17501 is actually going to be perfect for your toy hauler with a 9,900 lb GVWR. The reason for that is this system is designed for total tongue weights between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs, and since tongue weight is approximately 10 to 15 percent of GVWR, the TruTrack is rated precisely right for your toy hauler.
