Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Forged Steel Spring Bars

The round spring bars are made from forged steel, giving them a distinct advantage over typical cast steel bars. Forging is a process where thermal and mechanical energy are applied to the steel, resulting in a finished product that is more resilient to impacts and is stronger in terms of shear strength. Simply put, these spring bars do a superior job of helping to hold your trailer in line because of their added strength and durability.

Built-In Grease Zerks

Built-in grease zerk on the Curt weight distribution system head assembly

The system's head features 2 built-in grease zerks so that you can easily lubricate the spring bars without having to remove them from the head assembly. The grease zerks are located on each of the shafts that encase the spring bars. Simply use a grease gun (sold separately) to inject grease into each of the zerks.

  • Weight Distribution for 2020 Toyota Highlander Towing Trailer with 360 lb Dry Tongue Weight
For the tongue weight you mentioned of 360 lb dry the Curt weight distribution system # C17052 would be rated too high and would give you a pretty harsh ride quality. The # C17051 with it's range of 600 to 800 lbs would be a much better option once your trailer is loaded and would have a higher tongue weight.

  • Can You Back Up With Sway Control Bar Removed From Curt MV Weight Distribution System?
You can back up with the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17052. This does not include any type of sway control. If you are referring to the Curt MV Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control # C17062 then you only need to remove the Sway Unit # 17200 to back up with the weight distribution bars still attached.

  • Correct Curt Weight Distribution System for Towing a 2018 Keystone Bullet Premier Ultra Light 30RIPR
It looks like your current system is a Curt MV like part # C17052 which is supposed to help with the distribution of weight but doesn't include any sway control. This is why you were having issues with the wind. There are friction sway control bars like part # 17200 that you can add to your system but they are not as effective as a system that has the sway control integrated into it. The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution (WD) # C17500 does have integrated sway control so it will help to...

  • Is 10k Curt MV Weight Distribution Too Wide For V-Nose Trailer
The 10,000 lb Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17052 isn't too wide for your trailer but it may be too long. A lot of times with V-nose trailers what ends up happening is you have to install Chain Hangers for Curt Weight Distribution Systems - Bolt On # C17005 on your trailer frame. The arms of the # C17052 are 31-1/2" long so you'll need about that much distance on your frame rearwards to use the system, otherwise you'll need to use the chain hangers. Then for a hitch ball use part...

  • Are Curt Spring Bars Compatible With Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Hitch
For the most part, weight distribution hitch parts are not compatible across brands. That is the case with Fastway and Curt. The # C17073 cannot be used with the Fastway # FA94-00-1061. If you truly want to use these Curt spring bars you would need to switch systems and get the # C17052. However, I would stick with the Fastway since this will be a downgrade in quality as well as performance. You will also lose your sway control unless you add the # 17200.

  • Weight Distribution Hitch With 1,000 lb Capacity

  • Weight Distribution Hitch for 400-600 lbs and 800-1000 lbs Tongue Weight
If you choose a hitch that is too light for your application it will not be effective. If you choose a hitch that is too heavy, you'll suffer a rigid ride and a bouncy trailer. Ideally you want a system that has a tongue weight capacity where your tongue weight falls in the middle. Since you are renting different trailers, I would not recommend these Curt models. All of these require drilling in the frame in order to be installed. Instead, consider a system that uses clamp-on brackets....

  • Troubleshooting a Curt WDS That's Spring Bars Keep Falling Out
Hey Adam, thanks for dropping by! Sorry to hear about your issue with the spring bars falling out, and for what it's worth, that is a pretty uncommon thing. I'd suggest, if you haven't already, checking everything before heading out and making sure it's all tight. The spring bars should click into place on the hitch so they don't fall out. It also could be an issue with the spring clips needing to be replaced. If they are original to the system there is a good chance they need to be...

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for 6700 lb Trailer
A fully loaded trailer weighing 6700 lbs would have a tongue weight that ranges between 600-1000 lbs, so you'd want to choose a system that's rated to cover that possible range. A typical chain-suspended unit like the Curt # C17057 MV weight distribution system would work fine for a utility trailer that's non enclosed, but if it's an enclosed cargo trailer or a travel trailer, you'll really want to do yourself a favor and choose a system with an integrated sway control component. • How To Find Correct Round 1,000 Lb Spring Bars for Curt Weight Distribution System
In order to determine the correct replacement or upgraded spring bar for a Curt Weight Distribution System you need to know if you have the standard like part # C17002 or MV like part # C17052. The head for each is a bit different so you should be able to distinguish which you have by looking at photos of each. If you have the standard then the correct one for a 800-1,000 lb rating is part # C17115. If you have the MV then the correct one for a 800-1,000 lb rating is part # C17073.

  • Correct Weight Distribution System For A 2020 Outdoors RV 24RLS Being Pulled By A 2017 Ford F-150
I will start by saying that you should measure to the bottom of the trailer's coupler and then the inside top of the receiver hitch to find the rise or drop needed to stay level. This could explain the sway you are getting. With that being said, not knowing which model Curt weight distribution system you currently have, I cannot say if it is the correct one for your set up. The Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17052, # C17063, and # C17422 are the options we have for the specific tongue weight. • Is It Okay for Reese Pro Weight Distribution System 49903 To Have Different Spring Bars
I can't exactly recommend using a weight distribution system with different spring bars because if the system is not providing an even amount of pressure on both sides, it could very well lead to issues like sway, porpoising, etc. Unfortunately, this system is discontinued and replacement parts like the spring bars are no longer available. Therefore, the only options we'd be able to offer is a new system, the Curt MV Weight Distribution System part # C17052 which has the same 1,000 lb capacity.

  • Is Sway Control Needed with Weight Distribution System on Newer Ford Truck
Weight distribution alone is basically a form of "sway control". It will help reduce sway caused by cross winds or passing semi-trucks greatly. Going with additional sway control isn't always needed and since you have a the Ford sway control built into the truck already I would assume you would be totally fine without a sway control system.
