So far, just received the item. I’m furious, not sure who’s to blame but the box was completely torn and all the hardware missing. My trucks at the shop and theirs nothing that can be done at the moment other then hold up the bay until I get the hardware.

I apologize that the hitch arrived this way. We will be in contact with you and have any missing hardware sent out as quickly as possible to you.

by:
Ford Excursion

Hitch works great but install was not good as I had use old hardware because the new hardware wouldn't work for the excursion.

by:
Ford Excursion

Perfect fit on a 7.3 diesel 4x4 Excursion. The large eyes for safety chain hooks are great. Looks better than OEM. The factory trailer plug mounted perfectly too. If your Excursion still has the original receiver it might look good from behind the truck, but it probably looks like Swiss cheese from underneath
You will have to at least drop the rear of the fuel tank down to install this. If your fuel filler neck is original, now is a good time to replace it.

I made it work but was expecting better quality from made in the USA! Most of the welds over all are just "ok" and some are poor. The 2 sides were not parallel (1"off front to back) so I had to use clamps to push/pull it into place. My factory hitch was not rusted out like many others but just warn out due to towing. I didnt weigh the hitches but I think I the factory hitch was still heavier.

This flex, as shown in your photo, is typical as the hitch is made with mild steel to flex with the vehicle over potholes and heavy terrain. You did a good job bending the hitch back. Here are some other tips about flex:

Installation was a little trickier than the instruction indicated, but I installed it on a 20 year old Excursion. Still, it fit right and works as it should. New piece of mind not having a rusted receiver on my work horse.

by:

Etrailer has great customer support shipping was fast. Curt manufactured a great hitch direct replacement. Removal and install took around 5 hours with the truck on a lift. I did not have to take the tank out but had to loosen all the tank bolts and support with a stand. Cut a notch out of the old hitch for access to the shear bolt. Pipe wrench and a four foot cheater pipe to remove shear bolt. All the rest was a breeze.

2002 Ford Excursion

I am very please with the Curt Class IV hitch I purchased for my 2002 Ford Excursion 7.3L diesel. The quality of the steel, welding, and power coat finish looked good enough to part of the car body not as an extension of the frame.

A local installer dropped the fuel tank and did the complete installation. Looks great. Looking forward to pulling my new Jayco trailer when it comes in August.

I was very pleased with etrailer's quick turn around in filling and shipping the order. I have and will purchase other trailer items from etrailer.com!!!

Working well.

2000 Ford Excursion

Had no issues with installation. I sprayed down the mounting bolts twice day for a week before I started the job. Dropped the fuel tank and was able to back the bolts right out. Install of the hitch was easy. I was able to remove the old electrical connector for the lights and reinstall it on the new hitch.

by:

Perfect fit and simple to install

This is a one-year review. Arrived in good shape from etrailer.com. The box was in poor shape, but the hitch itself was pristine. It was installed by a shop and I had them replace all the hardware with heavy duty bolts, nuts and washers. After it's first year, there is some rust developing in the receiver box that I'll need to take care of. We live in Pennsylvania with road salt, but it was a mild winter and I feel the hitch shouldn't be rusting yet. All in all, good replacement for factory hitch.

After two years, the hitch only has marginal additional rust, although the vehicle was driven fewer winter miles during this past year. Still a solid purchase.

2002 Ford Excursion

Installed this on my 2002 Excursion by myself in my driveway. The fuel tank has to be dropped which was not a big deal and a great time to replace the aged fuel pump. Purchased as the original hitch was badly rusted and not trustworthy. I am impressed with build quality and ease of install. I would recommend to anyone in need of replacing their factory hitch. Purchased with the intentions of pulling a 10k travel trailer around the east coast.

Loving it. Have used this extensively. Was worried about rusting as I use a few different ball sizes and remove the pin and hitch often. No rust has shown up and the finish is holding up amazing. Still black and not faded at all from UV exposure. Very happy with this hitch

If you ever do start to notice some rust starting on your hitch, a great way to help extend the life of your hitch is to clean the rust off and cover the bare metal with some rust-resistant black spray paint so that there isn't a place for rust to start.

2000 Ford Excursion

The hitch was a snap to install, and exactly what my 2000 excursion needed!!

by:

Shipping was super quick. The packaging was destroyed, but the item was not damaged.

by:

Exact replacement for my old rust unit and couldn’t beat the price

by:

Don't pass this website up! This is my second hitch purchased from etrailer and I'm extremely happy with both. Shipping is very fast, installation is a breeze and I've had the latest one hooked up on my ford excursion that pulls an 8k travel trailer. We live in the Salt belt and it is holding up really well through the elements. Will definately be returning here if I ever need another hitch, thanks guys!

by:

Perfect fit for a 2002 Ford Excursion. As had been highlighted in the e trailer information- the fuel tank/ shield had to be lowered to get access to the bolts and shear bolt. Very pleased with how it fits and looks. The original receiver hitch actually fell apart (due to rotting) as one side was being unbolted. etrailer had an excellent price, free shipping. The receiver hitch had no scratches or abrasion on the painted surfaces- nicely packed by etrailer with the rest of my shipment.

All hardware included, fit perfectly!!

by:
Ford Excursion

I’ve had this hitch for a year now, and I’m generally pleased with it. There were some issues with the original installation as the early Excursion used different hardware to install the hitch. A phone call to George resulted in the correct hardware being sent allowing proper installation. George responded quickly to my problem and resolved it to my satisfaction. My only complaint with the receiver is that the receiver tube seems a little oversized allowing the receiver to float in the hitch.

2001 Ford Excursion

I recondition and rebuild Ford vehicles and these hitch assemblies are great with basically an imitated factory look and design. Seller shipped fast too!!

by:

Perfect fit, but none of the hardware is useable as it was the wrong size. No need for the fish wire as I was able to remove the shear bolts using an easy out, after I drilled the heads off

You mentioned that the hardware was wrong and did not fit. I wanted to ask you what size hardware did you receive? Did it match the hardware listed in the manual? Did you clean out the bolt holes with a wire brush?

by:

Jaime was great to work with on the phone. Was told product would be here Friday. Showed up Thursday. Great customer service!

Ford Excursion

This hitch for a Ford Excursion was the only one available anywhere. It arrived promptly in undamaged condition, was beautifully built, and fit precisely. Highly recommended.

by:

Great product. The only thing That could make it better is a bracket or accommodation for the round 7 point plug. I bought a bracket and it had to be mounted on bottom side of receiver. I backed into a stall and the curb broke the hanger. Has to be a better way.

by:
2003 Ford Excursion

im giving this product 3 stars only because there were several minor scratches on the hitch when i took it out of the box. there was no packing or wrap on the hitch or inside the box which was likely the cause of the scratches. there were only maybe 3 or 4 areas but we all know how easily trailer hitches rust and having any exposed metal areas or scratches would easily welcome a rust spot. the unit iteslf is well built, looks very solid. i have not installed it yet due to the fact that i want to have it painted or something and address the bare metal spots. i do not want to see rust on this in 3 months.

Hi Chris; the distance across the # C14011 from bolt hole to bolt hole is 34.49" on center. According to Curt, it is the same for all four sets of bolt holes. This hitch is designed to fit the 2000 - 2005 Ford Excursion.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch And Wiring For 2001 Ford Excursion 4x4 With 5.4L Engine
I did some research on your 2001 Excursion 4x4 and found the towing capacity for your vehicle with a 5.4L engine is 7,200 maximum trailer weight. That would be the weight of the trailer when it is fully-loaded and ready-to-tow. For your Excursion I recommend the Curt Class trailer Hitch, part # C14011. This is a Class lV hitch and it has a 2 inch receiver opening. Since you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts;...

To see installation details for both hitches, click the provided links. The Curt # C14011 installs using 18mm bolts that use existing nut plates in your Excursion's frame. No drilling is required to completed the installation. The hitch has a 12,000 lb towing/1200 lb tongue weight capacity. The Torklift # TLF1006 installs using 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch hardware, and nuts. The existing nut plates are removed, so you'll need to remove the rear bumper to access the interior of the frame members...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2000 Ford Excursion
The 2000 Ford Excursion is actually rated for 10,000 pounds gross trailer weight. The 18,000 pounds is the gross combined weight rating or GCWR. The GCWR is the most that the Excursion and trailer can weigh including cargo, passengers, and fuel. So the Excursion cannot tow 18,000 pounds and its weight plus the trailers weight cannot exceed 18,000 pounds. The trailer can weigh up to 10,000 pounds total but no more. With that said the highest capacity trailer hitch we have for your vehicle...

  • Does Curt Hitch C14011 Fit 2003 Ford Excursion and Include all Install Hardware
The Curt hitch part # C14011 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 2003 Ford Excursion and comes with all of the install hardware you would need. The picture I attached shows all the hardware. This hitch has pretty high capacities at 12,000 lbs total trailer weight and 1,200 lbs tongue weight capacity. It's a steel hitch so with enough exposure to weather/elements it will begin to rust. But normally the hitch lasts at least the life of the vehicle before rusting to the point...

  • Curt Hitch C14011 Installation on 2001 Ford Excursion
You will naturally be better off if your shop does NOT break off the factory weld nuts when removing the OEM hitch from the frame rails on your 2001 Excursion. Given the vehicle's age its quite likely that the bolts securing the OEM hitch will have some rust. Application of a solvent like PB Blaster or WD40 will help dissolve that accumulated corrosion and give them better odds of getting the hitch off without damage so that you can install either Curt hitch # C14011 or TorkLift # TLF1006. • Size Mounting Bolts for Curt Class IV Hitch # C14011 on a 2001 Ford Excursion
Ford sourced the OEM hitches used on the early 2000's Excursions from overseas, they're notorious for rusting out. Installing a new hitch would be highly recommended, because there's no way to determine to what degree the capabilities of your current hitch have been compromised. The Curt Class IV hitch you referenced, part # C14011 uses M18-2.5 x 2 Grade 10.9 bolts to attach to the vehicle frame members.
