If you're looking for an American-made hitch that rides quietly, offers a quick and easy setup, and provides you with supreme handling, the Blue Ox SwayPro might be just what you're after. When we tested this system, the truck and trailer felt like one unit, and noise wasn't an issue at all. Overall, the SwayPro came out on top and proved to be one of our favorite weight distribution systems.

Pro Tip: Before you invest in a weight distribution hitch, make sure your cargo is evenly loaded in your trailer to keep the weight balanced. If you still have a hard time even after balancing your tongue weight, a weight distribution hitch should help.

Blue Ox SwayPro Offers Superior Sway Control

Blue Ox SwayPro Positive Caster

The SwayPro is designed to keep your trailer centered behind your vehicle as you tow, no matter what crosswinds or obstacles try to get in your way. To do this, the head on the system is built with a positive caster angle. You might've heard of caster in reference to your car; it's the same technology that vehicles use to stay centered on the road. When you turn a corner in your car and let go of the steering wheel, the wheel automatically returns to center. This is caster taking over. Well, the SwayPro functions much the same way. The positive caster angle that's built into this hitch works in tandem with the tapered spring bars to create a self-centering force that keeps your trailer consistently centered behind your tow vehicle.

Blue Ox SwayPro System with Built-In Sway Control Hooked Up

The trunnions inside the head assembly hold the spring bars securely in position, placing just enough tension on them to cause them to constantly hold your trailer in line.

A close-up shot of the Blue Ox SwayPro's bracket shows the chain rotated and pulled taught with very few chain links exposed

At the other end of this weight distribution system, you'll find 2 more points of built-in sway control. Blue Ox's rotating brackets ensure that the lift chains are pulled as taut as possible, with the majority of the chains wrapped up inside of the brackets. Typically, only a couple of links hang down from each bracket. This means that each chain is held more stable than they are in traditional weight distribution systems, where more than twice as many links are exposed.

This tight, stable design limits the movement of the spring bars so that they can exert more force on your trailer to effectively keep it from swaying - all without the creaking, grinding, and popping noises you get with friction-style sway control setups. Moreover, unlike many friction-style sway controls, the SwayPro allows you to back up your trailer without having to remove or disengage anything.

The Blue Ox SwayPro's No-Hassle Setup

When it's time to install the system for the first time, you might be surprised at how easy it is to do. All in all, you can probably have it done within an hour - 2 at the most.

First, the head. With just the right amount of adjustment angle already preset, it's ready to go right out of the box! No need to fine-tune it with hard-to-access washers or a difficult-to-use thumbscrew! The only thing you'll need to adjust is the height of the head on the shank. After that, to get the trunnion bars installed, just insert them into the sockets, and lock them in place with the included pins and clips.

Quick Tip: If you upgrade to a new trailer in the future, and you end up needing a system for a different tongue weight, you can just swap out the SwayPro's spring bars without having to buy a whole new hitch.

To get the Blue Ox SwayPro ready to go, just insert the lift chain into the bracket slot and rotate the bracket with the included wrench until the lock pin engages.

Other weight distribution systems have lift brackets that require you to apply a good amount of leverage to get them to snap up, which can be difficult and frustrating. To get the SwayPro ready to go, all you have to do is insert the lift chain into the bracket slot and rotate the bracket with the included wrench until the lock pin engages.

Why Use a Weight Distribution Hitch?

Diagram showing weight distribution on a truck and towing a camper

  • Prevents uneven tire wear on your vehicle and trailer
  • Keeps the rear of your tow vehicle from sagging
  • Lets you tow to the max capacity of your trailer hitch
  • Stops your headlights from pointing up at the sky
  • Gives you control over steering your rig

Selecting the Right Weight Distribution System

  • Think "Goldilocks"
    • If you go for overbuilt, you'll have a rigid ride
    • If it's not strong enough, it's virtually useless
  • Let your tongue weight be your guide

Your tongue weight is the first thing you need to know when figuring out which weight distribution system you need. Most people think that if they get the highest-rated system possible, it'll be smooth sailing. But actually, this will create a rigid ride and a bouncing trailer. On the other hand, if the system isn't strong enough, it won't be able to distribute the weight properly, making it virtually useless.

Once you know your trailer's tongue weight, add it to the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Then just choose a weight distribution system rated for that combined tongue weight.

  • Will MORryde RV Cargo Sliding Tray Add To Trailer Tongue Weight
It really depends on the design of your trailer. I would expect the # MR69FR to add to the tongue weight but it may not be the full 139 lbs. However, if you're telling me that your dry tongue weight is already higher than the rating of the # BXW0753 then it is safe to say you should go ahead and upgrade the spring bars, especially if you're adding the sliding tray. The next size up has a tongue weight range of 750-1,000 lbs so it will be more effective than what you're using now. You...

  • Difference Between Standard and Underslung Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution
The head is the main difference on the # BXW0753. The angle for the trunnion bars is not as steep when compared to the head on the standard # BXW0756. The shank is the same.

  • Which Blue Ox Sway Pro Recommendation for 2018 Lance 1685 GVWR 5500 lb
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use. With the towing capacity of your...

  • Is There a Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System for Underslung Trailer Couplers
We do offer the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Systems for underslung trailer couplers; part # BXW0553 for 6K, part # BXW0753 for 8K, part # BXW1003 for 10K, and part # BXW1503 for 15K. Unfortunately, they aren't offered with 2-1/2" shanks so you can either use an adapter or replace this with one from the list below.

  • What Weight Distribution System do you Recommend for my Silverado with a 5725lb Camper with 594 TW
While the Blue Ox part # BXW0753 is a decent system I highly recommend the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control part # RP66087 is the way to go. It is one of me favorites actually I have it on my camper. This system is designed to work with 400 - 800 lbs. of tongue weight which is the 594 lbs. plus anything you load behind your rear axle of the hauling vehicle which would fall right in the sweet spot of the system.

  • Do the Hook Up Brackets for Curt Weight Distribution Systems Provide Sway Control
The Replacement Hook Up Brackets # C17208 do not act as sway control. These are for use with just the chain systems like part # C17332 or # C17057 which require a friction sway control like # 17200 if you want sway control added. This friction sway control is effective but a little outdated and can be frustrating because you have to disengage it to back your trailer up. For a system that does have integrated sway control and chain hangers you can use the Blue Ox SwayPro like part # BXW0753...

  • Can Curt RockerBall be Used with Weight Distribution
Good question. I checked with Curt because I haven't had this come up yet but unfortunately no, the RockerBall, part # C29FR, cannot be used with a weight distribution system. Looking at your pictures I think you have a Blue Ox SwayPro system, like part # BXW0753. If I'm correct then you need a standard 2-5/16 inch ball with either a 1 or 1-1/4 inch shank. Beyond that the choice is yours so part # 63847 is a good option for a a 1 inch or part # 63840 for a 1-1/4 inch.

  • How to Tow a Horse Trailer Behind a 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty with a Camper Extension of 48"
Four feet of clearance is quite a bit, but there is one configuration that I found that might work. Since you have a 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty, you probably have a 3" receiver. With this, you can add the TorkLift Cannon Hitch Extension, part # TLE1636. This will extend 36" out. It's max towing weight is 3600 pounds and the max tongue weight is 360 pounds. However, with a weight distribution system, those are increased to 7200 pounds and 720 pounds, respectively. So, you will need to weigh...

  • Best Way to Reduce Sag When Towing with 2018 Ford F-150
Lift kits aren't often designed to be used when towing so first thing you might do is check with the manufacturer of the lift kit to see if towing is okay to do with it installed. An air bag kit would add additional support like you would need so you could use the Firestone # F2582 which does fit your truck. But a better option would be a weight distribution system which take some of the tongue weight and distributes it back up to the front axle to reduce sag and improve handling and braking....

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Small Enclosed Cargo Trailer
For the best performance, you'll want to match the system you use to the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer.
