This base plate's hidden design creates a clean and seamless look. The bracket arms are easily removable, creating a slick appearance when you're not flat towing. Because the arms can be removed, you also won't have to worry about banging your leg into any protruding arms when you walk by.
Attaching and removing the bracket arms is a breeze. To attach the arms to the base plate, simply insert them into the receivers and rotate them until they lock into place. Once you're finished towing and want to remove the arms, pull the pin to disengage the lock, rotate the arms, and remove them from the receivers. Finally, plug up the now empty receivers with the included receiver covers to help keep dirt and debris out of the base plate and provide a finished look.
Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.
There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.
The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

When I first received the base plate I was thinking about having it installed, but after watching the etrailer.com installation video I decided to do it myself. Couldn't have asked for a smoother install. The permanent base plate safety cables concerned me a little. I came up with a figure-8 over the frame that I think will work ok and I did secure it with some cable ties in a couple of spots.

We decided to purchase the Blue Ox set up for our 2018 Wrangler JL. The set up works very well and has been easy to connect/disconnect, so far. The instructional installation video was EXCELLENT and definitely contributed to making the installation a breeze. Thanks again etrailer. Only alteration was to the brake away switch. It seemed to stick out too far in front of the bumper, for my liking, so I added a stainless nut/bolt and two nylon bushings so it could swivel out of harms way when not in use.
First endeavor on 4 down towing a 2018 jeep Wrangler JL. Use to use tow dolly but couldn’t understand why we went that direction. This is a very stout piece of hardware. Installation took about 3 hours. Referred to etrailer’s installation video which was very well done. Only recommendation i would make is to specify that a 18mm DEEP socket is required to remove bumper. Very pleased with this purchase which arrived 3-4 days after placing order. No hesitation on using etrailer for all my RV towing needs. Great job etrailer!

Great, towed it about 3,000 miles this year. Easy to use.
This is our second tow vehicle. etrailer made it easy to shop for our 2020 Jeep Wrangler Sport. We purchased a Blue OX base plate for our Mini Cooper previously and the videos make it easy to install. We use the Blue Ox Alpha 2 Tow bar and the Roadmaster BrakeMaster System w BrakeAway for RVs w Air or Air Over Hydraulic Brakes - Proportional. Can't wait to get the new Jeep set up.
Video's were great and a big help with installing. I like the fit on the Jeep and how it looks like it was factory installed. Myself and a couple of buddies knocked this out in a day.
Looks solid, works perfect
Quality product. Solid, well built, perfect installation fitment. I installed this on a 2020 Jeep Wrangler JL and had no problems. Bumper and lower facia removal were easy (check out the online video...great instructions.) Base Plate installation was an easy, one-person job. (FYI I'm 72 and not in great shape, so if I say it was easy...it was easy!) Total time invested was about 2 hours.

Well made and easy to install, but torque specs on the 6 main bolts should be more clear. Also, it is not necessary to enlarge the lower frame hole to fit the wiznut. Instead, simply grind a couple of millimeters off 2 sides of the wiznut washer, and it fits right in.
E Trailer is definitely customer focused. They provide support during the purchase process but it doesn’t end there. I got a follow up email containing videos about my purchase the day it was delivered. Oh the they delivered 2 days early. I am so excited to have found a business that provides excellent customer service!!
Good product. Installation was well explained and straightforward. We towed almost 10,000 miles in this first year with no problems. I did repaint where the arms go in twice this year to avoid rust.
Product fit very well and instructions were very accurate. It does help to watch the video as well. This is the second tow vehicle I have used etrailer for but will probably have the Jeep Wrangler for a while now. I like how you don't really notice it when on the vehicle.
It’s a well engineered and thought out product. However, it’s meant to put on the front of a vehicle and get wet. A year later we have some black paint peeling and rusting around the outer holes and around both removable connection points. I’m disappointed for the price, but I don’t know a better product for this use. I suggest keeping a close eye on this and treat rust early on.

The base plate will experience nicks and scratches over time from road debris. We do recommend keeping a can of Rustoleum on hand to touch it up from time to time.
Not hard to install but take your time and have a second hand for aligning.
Well made fits perfectly. I installed it myself very easy with videos.

The product functions as designed. The one issue that was quickly discovered was the paintpowder coat is very cheap and started peeling off after just a few months of use. Called blue ox and they confirmed its a know issue and will not warranty it. So constant touch up to prevent rust is a must.
