Quiet, Secure Ride
The 1" thick jaw on the Companion OEM is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.
In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.
Non-Binding Latch Handle
The dual jaw on the Companion OEM is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.
The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".
To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you the cab clearance needed to execute turns while towing.
To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base. The above diagram gives an indication of where to mount the arms so that you get the height and the cab clearance that you need.
Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.
The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

Excellent hitch. I have never had an issue with it since we bought it about a year ago. Very easy to secure the 5th wheel which makes us feel comfortable and safe going down the road.
I like my hitch but it rusted on a few parts which I was surprised to see. I contacted B & W directly and they sent me replacement parts asap. For function, I would buy this hitch again if I had to buy another hitch.
Just installed my new B&W Companion 25k 5th wheel hitch into my 2019 F450. Hitch was incredibly easy to install with all the etrailer videos and supplied instructions. We did our own research when purchasing the B&W Companion and it seemed like a popular, easy to use fifth wheel hitch. We got the larger size because , well, why not? Haha. For the price it was well worth it. I’ve never had a different model or brand 5th wheel hitch so I can’t give a comparison. I can say, this Companion couldn’t be easier to set up, install, maintain and more importantly, use. I could not be happier with this hitch and honestly because it’s ease of use with never a complaint, I sort of just take it for granted and never even think about it. etrailer always provides Great service and fast shipping. This is my 3rd B&W fifth wheel hitch. My 1st one was for a B&W turnover ball, 2nd one was for a Ram puck system and now this one. They are extremely well built. I have been in some very bad campsites that were not level and the truck at a different angle from the trailer. I have never had any trouble disconnecting or reconnecting. I would highly recommend these hitches.
Excellent quality of hitch parts can not wait to tow with it, the only problem was the 1/2" lock washers. When torquing two of the eight the 1/2" cap screws on the riser arm's 110 ftlb the lock washers mashed out from under the cap screw head, could only get about 90 ftlb before mashing out.
Easy to install. F350 dually puck system. BakFlip cover doesn't make contact when closed with the hitch in the highest position.
This hitch is the finest engineered 5th wheel hitch I have used over a forty year period. I am very happy with my purchase and your finest service!!!

Fabulous hitch - I love it !!!!
The hitch assembled easily and fit right into the Ford puck system. Start to finish was less than an hour. The hitch is sturdy and attractive. It's very easy to remove from the bed of the truck when not being used.
Had to take all four washers off passenger side puck lock arms so I could lock them with cotter pins.Delivery was two days later than stated. Haven’t towed with it yet. Truck came with factory prep for 5th wheel hitch.
As so many others have said, this hitch is fantastic. I have a F350 long bed with the factory puck system and the 2 work together seamlessly. The hitch has 2 main components to discuss, the lower portion and the upper portion.
The lower portion which connects to the truck fits as designed. I previously owned the B&W companion slider hitch with a short bed F250. While that was a great hitch, the slider base was so heavy and very awkward to get in the truck. This hitch is so much lighter and easier to move around.
The upper portion is classic B&W quality. It connects very smoothly to the RV and locks up tightly. No chucking or moving around. It also disconnects equally as smooth even on odd angles.
I have had this hitch for 1 year now and have been very happy with it. Etrailer was also very good to deal with. I ordered this hitch over the phone while I was at the dealership buying the truck and it arrived a few days later. Very happy with my purchase.
We like it pretty well. No issues with it. It’s doing it’s job. Fits on the truck perfectly and we’ve been using it to tow several times and a few different 5th wheels. Would recommend.
The Quality of hitch was great! My only issue is the lock washers for 1/2 diameter bolts are too soft and the internal diameter to large. The Lock washers would open as the torque was applied. We ended up using metric 12 mm lock washers. They fit the bolt shank tighter and did not spread during the install.
Called and told them I just bought a 42ft 5th wheel and what hitch I needed for my F-350 dual and the team recommended and I purchased and what an amazing product. Couldn't be any more happy with it.
I had a 20,000 lb B&W hitch and never had any problems with it, I’ve recently purchased a larger 5th wheel and now have upgraded to a 25,000lb
The product looks well made and strong. The assembly instructions were easy to understand. The locking mechanism was too short for the castle nut to be tightened down and still get the cotter pin through. I removed one of two washers on the handle and the cotter pin fit through. The bolt/cam needs to be slightly longer.
We purchased a brand new 5th wheel & needed a bigger hitch ! We upgraded to a 24k GVWR DRV Toy Hauler (3" walls) and after much research & comparing features on various brands, we decided on the B&W 25k 5th wheel hitch. We will never go past the 24k lbs trailer GVWR, so no need for 27k or 30k. And it was important for our hitch to provide plenty of clearance above the bed rails, as B&W is higher than other competitors & rotational on all axis. Plus, even though this thing is a 2 piece unit, it is built like a Tank. We aren't gonna pinch a few pennies to pull this beautiful rig :) Bottom line: WE LOVE IT !! Definitely get the 25k B&W ! We've always had good success with eTrailer for price, shipping speed, and quality. After ordering - the entire experience was flawless, as usual. Thank you eTrailer ! You guys are awesome !!!! :)
This has been a fantastic hitch for our setup. So easy to install in my truck, easy to hook/unhook, and has kept its brand new finish look to it. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a tough hitch.
It has done what I needed not sure it articulates enough if I get into rough entrances but so far so good it’s easy to take out and install thanks for checking up that’s good customer service please check again next year thanks a bunch.
Removal and installation is simple with the two-part system. Latching is simple to verify. Minimal chucking.
Package was in rough shape when it arrived and was missing parts. And the base scratches and paint chips missing. Also came a day later than expected.
Called customer service and they are shipping a new one. Hopefully gets here in damaged and on time.
Best fifth wheel hitch on the market
ETrailer is absolutely the best. They repeatedly overdrive on their commitments. I am always impressed either the quality of their customer service, the speed of their shipping, and their prices. Now the hitch, B&W is top notch. The products are always high quality down to the smallest components. This hitch, like the slider that's on my other truck, is seriously heavy duty and I cannot imagine it failing in any situation. I am confident that no matter the circumstance the hitch will not be if concern.
