Hi, everyone, Aidan here at etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at this B&W Pintle Hook Mounting Plate. It's gonna be a piece that slides into our 2 1/2 inch hitches and gives us a mounting plate for a pintle hook. So if you need a way to tow a lunette ring trailer, this could be a good way. This allows us to mount this separate piece in three separate positions, so that we can always be towing our trailer level. This could be an ideal system if you've only got one truck and trailer combination that's always gonna be at the same ride height, so bolting it in and torquing it down in this position isn't gonna be a hassle, because once it's in, we don't need to move it, and it's gonna create a really solid towing setup.
Let's check this out. Now, this doesn't include the hitch pin or clip, it's just the mounting plate, so you will need to pick up a hitch pin separately, maybe a locking one if you wanna keep this safe, and then, also, the pintle hook attachment. You've got a number of different sizes available here at etrailer, all the mounting holes should be pretty standard, we'll go over measurements though to double check just in case. But the one thing you probably wanna look out for is the weight capacity. When you're picking up the separate pintle hook, you wanna match it to the weight capacity as close as you can, or maybe even just get it a little bit more heavy duty, so you can trust that it's not going to be your lowest rated component.
But the B&W pintle mount is going to be a 16,000 pound gross trailer weight rating, that's how much weight this is rated to tow. Like I said, be sure to check out the pintle hook you pick up, your hitch, and your vehicle, and go by the lowest rated component in that setup. Some measurements to consider on the actual mounting plate itself, the mounting holes from side to side they're gonna be spaced apart 3 3/8 of an inch, so that'll match up with the pintle hook we have here today. And then for the height adjustments, these holes are gonna be spaced out 1 3/4 of an inch apart, center on center. So that lets us, again, know the spacing for our mounting holes, but also, the increments in which our height adjustments are made.
And if you needed to, you could flip this into a rise position, so if those three height adjustments weren't quite enough for you, you can get a little bit of rise out of it too. There are, of course, other options available on our site if you need some other drop variations, but that's what this one can do, and again, it's gonna offer the same three positions, only this time in the rise configuration. On the mounting plate itself, from the center of the hitch pin hole to the surface of that mounting plate, is gonna be seven inches, that helps us know how far things are gonna stick out from our vehicle. And from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest point of the support gusset underneath, is gonna be 4 1/4 inches. That lets us know if we have clearance with it when we put it into our hitch, because in some applications, you might find the gusset where to hitch the collar of your hitch before the hitch pin holes are aligned.
And one other thing I'd like to point out with this is that it is a hollow shank, which helps with its weight and ease of transport. So if we don't have this in the hitch all the time, maybe we wanna keep it in the back of the truck till it's ready to go, this isn't gonna weigh as much as something with a solid shank. Now, once you add a pintle hook onto the surface, that is going to change the weight a fair bit, but any sort of weight reduction we can get, if we want it, is good. If this doesn't quite fit your needs, there's tons of different options available. You can get versions of these pintle hooks that'll mount up to that plate that are a combination ball with a coupler, but still have that lock on top to work with a lunette ring trailer. So if you've got two types of trailers, that can work. They also make these in versions where it's just a single piece where it just slides into the hitch and has the pintle hook. Typically, those don't have adjustment though, so if you don't need height adjustment and you just want a one piece system, you can do that. But if you have multiple trailers with the need for frequent height adjustment, then I would recommend one of the higher end options that offers easy height adjustment, something from B&W or Curt, they both have good options, allows you to position the height of your pintle hook very easily on a whim. So if we leave one trailer, back up to another and need to switch, we can, and we can always be towing level. But those options are quite a bit more expensive, and if you don't have a need for it, then I don't think you need it, then you can just go with a more simple option like this where you can still get a drop height if you need it, it's bolted in nice and solid, and you can customize it to fit your needs. This has just been our look at the B&W Pintle Mounting Plate. Thanks for watching.

Powder coat finish is corrosion resistant. The shipping department don't listen I requested the hitch plate to be wrapped in bubble wrap the second time and it looks just like the first one. We are using it on our 1988 1st work truck that we had restored so we want a new hitch for the truck but there package sucks so tge paint gets marked up in shipping and looks bad.
