Bearing Buddy installed diagram

Bearing Buddy Operation

Replace your existing grease cap with a Bearing Buddy to ensure a safe, easy way to monitor and control the level of grease in your axle hub. To adjust the amount of grease in the hub, use a grease gun to add more through the appropriate fitting. Adding grease moves the Bearing Buddy spring-loaded piston outward 1/8".

The O-ring inside the barrel of the Bearing Buddy maintains a seal from the outside. The interior of the Bearing Buddy is pressurized, preventing water from entering the barrel and diluting the grease.

An automatic pressure-relief feature is built into the Bearing Buddy. When the device is full, grease will seep around the edges of the piston and into the barrel. This prevents overfilling that can damage the inner seal.

You can manually check the grease level in your Bearing Buddy by pressing on the edge of the piston. If you can rock or move the piston, the hub is properly filled.

After being unable to get replacement Bearing Buddy's from my local boat dealer, (they claimed they were on order for 3 months) I finally got smart and found etrailer online. Great product, 1000s of miles with no grease related issues. Just a quick check before leaving home to ensure the pressure is good and off I go. Highly recommend

by:

Product was back ordered about 45 days, but arrived today and screwed perfectly onto my old Reliable hubs. All new bearings and seals to eliminate the leaky and failing oil-filled system. Looking forward to years of trouble free trailering!

by:

These fit great. I accidentally ordered a size to small the first time. etrailer gladly let me return them easily. I'm very happy with these bearing buddies.

by:

Everything fits perfectly! Fast shipping! Excellent customer service

by:

I changed out my oil bath hups to grease. Bearking Buddy is the best solution in my opinion. They work perfectly, threaded in effortlessly and give a visual indication when bearings need more grease. An excellent product at a reasonable pricel; service and shipping were great. Thanks - H.

by:

Great company easy to deal with I ordered the wrong size first sent me return label and shipped the correct size now am just waiting to get credit on return

by:

Went to service my bearings on the trailer for my Key West 203 and found all the grease had become "liquid." Doh!...My mistake. This was my first encounter with oil bath trailer hubs. Not what I was used to. I have two other trailers and I like to keep everything the same. I bought these threaded bearing buddies to convert the hubs/bearings to grease instead of oil bath. Worked like a charm. I have had a couple of long hauls since and had zero issues. I'm not oil bath hubs are a problem. I just wanted to convert to grease and these did the trick.

by:

Great product, stainless steel material means no rust!

by:

I ordered the Stainless Bearing Buddys to replace the EZ Loader Oil Bath hub covers. I converted the hub to grease filled instead of the oil. All I had to do was remove the oil seal with a screwdriver and mallet, pack the inner and outer bearings with grease and installed the Bearing Buddys per the instructions. These are threaded and fit perfectly on my tapered spindle. I used Red Gasket Cement on the threads of the Buddys per the instructions.

by:

The first set of bearing buddies were defective. One was a sloppy fit and the other one wouldn't engage the treads. After notified the company , they informed me how to send them back and they were replaced with good ones. I am happy with the new bearing buddies and would recommend this company. These buddies were a great replacement for my boat trailer poorly desiged oil bath lubrication on the axles.

by:

I switched my oil bath hubs over to grease so I would not have future problems being stuck on the side of the road or at a lake.
If you do make the switch, ALL oil must be removed and make sure you replace the hub seals. Even though my trailer is 7 yrs old, the seal's outer lip were checked.
No problem installing these hubs using a bit of [threadlocker] on the threads.

by:

Product worked as advertised to replace oil bath plastic caps and allow the conversion to regular grease on my ezloader boat trailer.

by:

My wife informed that the bearing buddy's were received on Monday. I am at sea on a ship in the Pacific and plan to install them when I get home next month.
This effort was based on much online research and with the help of e-trailer I found exactly what I want. I plan on completing this operation and then start with e-trailer on my other boat trailer projects and get it to outstanding condition

by:

the whole experience was very professional. The product is of high quality. I am putting them on my boat trailer which hubs are oil bath and I am switching them to grease. this is why I need them to be threaded.

by:

Did not like the reliable oil bath hubs on my EZ Loader Trailer , went back to old school Threaded Bearing Buddy, etrailer has your parts , will definitely recommend to my friends

by:

They worked perfectly.

by:

The service was terrific. The product was on its way as promised. The Bearing Buddy was easy to install,
and has made maintenance so easy. Would highly recommend buying these from etrailer.com

by:

I literally called 15 boat and trailer shops in town and could get the parts I needed. I quickly found them on etrailer, had spot on 2 day delivery that I could track on line and had my trailer ready when I needed it. I will use etrailer here on out rather driving and calling every place in town. Parts were exact as well as delivery. Awesome job and thank y’all!!!

by:

Worked out great especially the comments as it was a older trailer with plastic caps I needed to retro fit. Might be got if you listed that.

by:

A perfect git! You would think somebody in Portlans would stock this part, as many boat trailers as there are here. Not the case. Fortunately I found them and they were delivered to my house within a week!

by:

Used these to convert trailer hubs from oil bath to grease. Worked great. I did not know these existed until I found them in the etrailer help section.

by:

Fit perfectly, and easy to install, arrived as advertised, staff was very helpful. A product I couldn’t find anywhere else, one shop indicated there was no threaded Bearing Buddies!! I wanted to double check it was correct size and technician verified my measurements
The detailed product info and video helped figure out what I needed

  • Is There a Bearing Buddy that is Threaded Comparable to a 2240?
I contacted Bearing Buddy to see what threaded cap they recommend for your application to convert from oil bath to grease. They said that the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors, # BB2441SS, is most likely the application for your trailer based on the 2240 question. This Bearing Buddy threaded grease cap has 12 threads per inch, as does # BB2080T-SS, but there are other threads like the # BB1980T-SS which has 24 threads per inch.

From a hub point of view the only difference between one designed for oil bath or grease is the dust cap. The oil bath hubs have a threaded cap and the grease a press in cap.
