Video Transcript for A Closer Look at the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs. This kit includes your front hangers, rear hangers, shackle straps and hardware for mounting springs to your 2,000-lb to 7,000-lb, single-axle trailer frame. That components for mounting the axle to the springs are sold separately. This kit's going to two leaf springs to your trailer frame. The components are made from a very strong and durable steel construction. The hangers are weld-on installation, and they do have a couple holes on top. Those are designed for spot welds. With this video we just want to go over the components that are included with the kit.

It's going to come with two 1-1/2" tall front hangers. Now the front hangers are these right here. The hight measurement is taken from the center of the 9/16" diameter hole to the very top of the hanger, so that's where we get the 1-1/2" measurement from. Again, nice, durable construction. Steel design.

Couple holes on top for spot welds, and 9/16" diameter holes on the side. Then you're also going to get two 1-1/4" tall rear hangers. Now these do not have bushings. Again, that height measurement is measured from the center of the 9/16" diameter hole to the top of the hanger, so that's where we get the 1-1/4" from. It's also going to come with four 2-5/8" long shackle straps. The length measurement is taken from the center of one hole to the center of the other, so that's 2 & 5/8 of an inch. Again, 9/16" diameter holes.

You're going to get four of those straps, and you're going to get six 3" long x 9/16" diameter shackle bolts, and six 9/16" diameter locknuts. That's going to do it for today's look at the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs.

  • How to Determine if Slipper Spring SP-177275 Will Fit Trailer
I can tell you how to determine if the 2-Leaf Slipper Spring for 1,000-lb Trailer Axles # SP-177275 will fit your trailer, though we do not have information regarding fits for individual trailers. The best way to determine if a slipper spring will fit is by measuring the length from the center of the spring eye to the end end of the spring, as you can see in the accompanying diagram. The best way to get an accurate length of a leaf spring is with the trailer up on jacks with the axle...

  • Comparing Different Hanger Kits ffor Single Axle Trailer with Double Eye Leaf Spring
Hi Barney! Any of the single axle kits you listed will work just fine for your single axle trailer. The main differences between the kits you listed is their height and how they install so I'll list out the differences below and you can decide from there which option is best for your trailer. - 1-1/2" Front, 7/8" Rear (4-1/4" or 4-1/2" clearance between trailer frame and axle) - Kit # APS1 - 1-1/2" Front, 1-1/4" Rear (4" or 4-1/2" clearance between trailer frame and axle) - Kit #...

  • Leaf Spring, Hangers, U-Bolt Kit for 2000 Dri Doc Bass Boat Trailer
For a leaf spring the etrailer spring part # e66SR would work great. This is a 2,500 lb axle leaf spring. Then for a hanger kit the # APS2 would be what you would want. It comes with hangers, shackles, bolts, etc. I don't know what axle diameter you have though so picking out a u-bolt kit would be a little more challenging. Most likely it is a 1-3/4 inch diameter axle though and would require the kit part # CE23000.

  • Switching from Slipper to Double Eye Leaf Springs on EZ Loader Trailer
In order to switch from slipper to double eye springs you'll need new hangers which are going to dictate your height so if you're looking to maintain the same height, you'd want to choose new hangers which are the same height as your existing. The Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs part # APS2 is a good option with 1-1/2" front and 1-1/4" rear. It can then be paired with the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles part # e48SR. I also recommend replacing the...

  • Parts Needed to Upgrade a Harbor Freight Axle
The parts and quantities do look mostly good, but you would only need one of the hanger kits # APS2. These are actually sold as a full kit for one axle. As to said axle, though, it would be a good idea to double check that your spring seats match the ones that come pre-welded to the # 20440I-EZ-60. These will measure 48 inches from center to center and yours should be as close as possible to this measurement. Though the # APS2 will need to be welded on, the bolts that come with it will...

  • Do the Shackle Straps Go Inside or Outside the Leaf Spring Hanger
The shackle straps need to be placed on the outside of the rear leaf spring hangers which you can see in the attached photo. Furthermore, the distance between the two mounting plates (inside to inside) on your leaf spring hangers should be 1-7/8", not 2" which is most likely why there is too much of a gap between the shackle straps and leaf spring. Therefore, the leaf spring hangers will need to be replaced. For this, we generally kit the single axle trailer suspension hangers and shackle...

The 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles - 20-3/8inch Long # e84SR and hanger kit # APS2 will work well as will the u-bolts # CE23000. When choosing between the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs part # APS1, part # APS2, and part # APS3 it will be best to use the one that has measurements that most closely resemble what is already on your trailer. For example, if your rear leaf spring hangers are 7/8" tall or shorter than you would want to use part # APS1 but if they are taller then this you would want to use part # APS2 or part # APS3. The difference in the kits are in the rear hangers and the shackle straps. The Redline Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit, part # APS1, uses the Redline Rear Hanger, part # 30-20, which uses a steel bushing and is .91 inches tall. With how long your current springs are, you will have replace the hangers for the springs to attach to. That being said, this does happen sometimes and it is not the end of the world. The 6-Leaf Double Eye Spring # e27SR will have a length of 26 inches from eye to eye, so you will also need the # APS2 hanger kit. This will cover both hangers on both sides, so you will need no other parts to get this system up and running.

  • How Far Apart Should Trailer Suspension Hangers Be When Installing Them
When mounting trailer suspension hangers like the # APS2 on a single axle trailer the key is to take the length of the spring from eye to eye and subtract 1/4 inch to determine where to place them apart. So for a 26 inch long leaf spring the distance you'd need to use when mounting the hangers would be 25-3/4 inches and you'd be set!

  • Are Bushings for Trailer Suspension Spring Hangers Required
Bushings do not always have to be used. Springs typically have bushings or they will use wet bolts depending on which part of the suspension system it is but not always. The bushings limit the wear on the suspension components. There are just different designs. Kits # APS2 and # APS5 use the same 7/8 inch hangers and it is those hangers that come with the bushings. I have included a link to our help article on double-eye trailer suspension for you.

For a 6 foot wide trailer I recommend the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System with Hubs - 5 on 4-1/2 - Regular Tires - 2,000 lbs # A20RS545. This system will allow you to simply attach the assembly to the frame and then use a 2 inch square bar between the assemblies in the integrated holes.
