Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • How To Measure To Find Out Bolt Pattern For Replacement Tire
Though we do not have a printable 5 lug bolt pattern sheet I can teach you how to properly measure your rim! Since your rim has 5 bolts you will need to measure from the center of one hole to the farthest edge of either of the two farther holes. There are two common size which I will list below: 5 on 4-1/2 inches 5 on 5 inches The Loadstar ST205/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire # AM3S664DX has a bolt pattern of 5 on 4-1/2 inches The Taskmaster ST205/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire # TA95RR has a bolt...

  • Can I Use a Smaller Tire for a Spare?
No, the smaller Loadstar ST205/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire w/ 15" Black Mod Wheel item # AM3S664DX would not be a viable option as a spare tire. It's almost 1-1/2" smaller then the Taskmaster ST235/75R15 Radial Off-Road Tire w/ 15" item # TA75RR you were looking at. Driving 50 - 100 miles with a lopsided trailer being pulled by a RAV4 Prime would be pretty dangerous. Controlling your trailer would be next to impossible if you had any sort of wind because it would constantly be pulling to...

  • What PSI Should Loadstar ST205/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire w/ 15" Black Mod Wheel Be Ran At
The Loadstar ST205/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire w/ 15" Black Mod Wheel # AM3S664DX needs to be inflated to it's max psi rating of 50 psi when cold. If you use lower psi you'd lower the weight capacity of the tire and cause heat to build up which will cause premature failure.

  • Will the 2K Timbren Axle-Less System A20RS545 Work with 15 Inch wheels
I do have what you need but the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System part # A20RS545 will only work with wheels up to 13" diameter because the hubs do not have enough surface area to support this larger size wheel. Instead, you would want to use the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System part # ASR2000S01 with the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly part # AKIHUB-545-2-LFEZ-2K as this would provide you with a hub size that is compatible with the larger 15" wheels. It uses the same spindle...

  • Rim Mounting Flange to Outer Portion of Tire on Taskmaster ST205/75D15 Trailer Tire 15 Black Wheel
I went and pulled a Kenda ST205/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire with 15" Black Mod Wheel # AM3S664DX from our warehouse and measured it from the mounting flange out to the furthest point out on the tire and I measured 4 inches. You want about 2 inches from the edge of the tire to any part of the trailer to make sure there's no contact between the two.

  • Are Pre-Mounted Trailer Tire/Wheel Combination Products Dynamically Balanced Like Automobile Tires
The tire/wheel combination products that we offer come from the manufacturer already pre-mounted. The tire's low spot is matched to the rim's high spot when they are mounted together. This is not the same as an actual dynamic tire balancing as you would have done when you buy new tires for your automobile but it does provide enough balance for a trailer tire. Certainly you could have trailer tires dynamically balanced by a shop that has the required equipment but it is not absolutely necessary...
