Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

i have a 950 Series ezgo commercial golf cart and the 20-8.50x8 golf cart tires were not heavy enough as the rear tires would squish to the rims under cargo or trailer load so I switched to this LRD load rated tire and all is well...

A couple thousand miles in tires have very very little wear compared to the cheap Chinese bombs. Well worth the money. I have had both.

Returning customer! Great tire and the price can't be beat! Will be using this on my pontoon boat trailer, as a spare. Excellent packaging and customer service. Thanks, I highly recommend etrailer.com and will shop with them for my future trailer needs.

A year later and still looks great and gives me peace of mind, especially on long trips.

by:

Tires are good, work as expected. No issues. They fit well and ride well.

My only complaint that they aren't balanced already. They should sell them balanced, otherwise five stars.

by:

Four wheels and tires shipped in quick order trailer is ready to roll again

by:

Going to Maine, Acadia National Park to be precise. Its a twelve hour trip and I needed new tires for my pop up. Etrailer had the load range D tires I wanted at a good price (free shipping was a big plus) and they showed up on time and fit perfect. I had a an excellent buying experience with etrailer. I will test them out this July 4th on a short trip to PA.

Great tire. Great price. Fast shipment. The tire WITH the rim is the same price as just the tire in a lesser load range from other stores.

by:

Everything was handled on an excellent basis. Price was good, shipping was excellent. Highly recommend.

by:

I wanted to replace a new looking trailer tire that had a small sidewall crack but was still holding air. Ordered an exact match Kenda Loadstar trailer tire and wheel. Also ordered a Fulton spare tire mount for the old tire and wheel that was a perfect fit on top of the trailer tongue. Both items arrived in a sturdy box and very quickly.

I have ordered from etrailer previously and will again.

by:

On time, good condition, good communication - would buy from this vendor again.

after one year they look great. I have always liked Kenda trailer tires.

by:

Tires and wheels look good. I have not actually gone anywhere yet with boat and trailer - just mounted them both on trailer.
etrailer was the only place I got the help needed to learn what exactly was needed - lots of back and forth emails before all was done. It's a relief to know all is safe to go.

All is good - will be out on the read again this summer.

by:

Tires came just as described. All I had to do was add a couple pounds of air to each tire and they were good to go. Put them right on. Got the free shipping and they were still here in 4 days without paying for the quicker ship. Also they were way more affordable than lesser tires that I had priced out at several other places. No one else even had load range D. These D's were better priced than everyone else's load range C.
I can't speak on the wear and tire life as I just put them on.

  • Recommended Trailer Wheel and Tire For a 1994 Coleman Pioneer Arcadia With a Higher Weight Capacity
We do carry the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel # AM3H430 which is a load range D version of the # AM3H390 with a load range C. Both tires have the 81mph speed rating but the load range D is capable of supporting 1,320lbs per tire versus 1,100lbs on the load range C. Do understand the higher load range will not increase any weight ratings given by Coleman on your 1994 Pioneer Arcadia. Using a stiffer tire will also cause the suspension to be stiffer and as most trailers...

The only difference between the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel part # AM3H453 and part # AM3H430 is the tire, the load range in particular. The former has a load range c rating suited for use up to 1,100 lbs and the latter a load range d rating suited for use up to 1,320 lbs. The pilot diameter of either wheel/tire is 2.81".

  • Replacement Trailer Tire Recommendation for a 21 Year Old 20.5x8x10 Tire
You definitely want to replace all of your trailer's tires ASAP as a tire's life is generally only limited to 6 years old before it needs to be replaced. The highest weight capacity tire we offer in your tire size of 20.5x8x10 is the Load Range E part # AM1HP56 which has a capacity of 1,650 lbs at 90 psi. This size is the same as the modern equivalent 205/65-10 which is what this product advertises as it's size. You should note that a trailer tire has to be inflated to it's max psi at...

I reached out to my contact over at Kenda for clarification on this and they mentioned that all of the Kenda 205/65-10 tires (LR C, LR D and LR E) have a speed rating of 81-mph unless otherwise noted on the tires. The Kenda 205/65-10 Tires- Load Range D # AM1HP54 would likely be the best solution for you because of the added capacity of the tires and the 81-mph rating; this tire is available with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern wheel using part # AM3H430.

  • Recommended Tire Upgrade for a Pontoon Boat Trailer
As you do not look to have any fenders on your trailer, you may be able to go with a larger tire and wheel combo. However, you do want to have at least 3 inches from the top of the tire to the bottom of the closest part of either the trailer or the actual boat. Less than that can cause the tire to make contact with things when going over bumps. With that all being said, I do not think the 13 inch wheel will work as it is significantly larger than the other two. That also being said, the...
