Video Transcript for Review of the Safety Chains for Ranch Hitch 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number AM3109. These are the safety chains for a Ranch Hitch 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapters. Safety chains are going to be a necessary precaution when you are towing. They're going to attach to your Ranch Hitch Coupler Adapter when installed on a 5th-Wheel trailer. They're going to work with both the straight and offset models. It's going to include everything you see on the table, so you're going to get the safety chain, and the mounting brackets, the hooks, all the necessary hardware for a complete installation. The product's made in the U.S.A.

The chain and the hooks are going to be made from a steel construction. They're going to have a nice chromate finish to resist rust and corrosion. It's going to be a Grade 70 chain that has a link diameter of 5/16 of an inch. They're going to have the forged steel hooks. These have the nice safety latch design to it, so it's going to prevent accidental disconnecting. When I took a measurement from the center of the bolt, I stretched the chain out from the center of the bolt to the center of the hook area.

That gave us a measurement of about 36 inches long, that's going to be the same on either side. These chains have been tested, and they meet the standards for up to 18,000 pounds when it comes to the capacity. The setup, simply clamps around the Ranch Hitch Coupler, and it's going to provide two chains that have the hooks at the ends. That simply attaches to the safety chain loops in the bed of your truck. To show you, on each side we're going to have the same components. You're going to have your chain, you're going to have your bolt, lock nut, and then your spacers.

You need to make sure that it goes through the link, the spacer goes on each side of that link in the chain, and then you tighten the lock nut all the way down. You're adapter portion is going to fit right inside that clamp. Very simple installation, and it's ready to go right out of the box. That's going to do it for today's review of part number AM3109. This is the safety chain kit for the Ranch Hitch 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter from Andersen. .

These safety chains were delived in a timely manner and where just as advertised except that there is no brand name on the clamps which is fine with me.

Gooseneck safety chain setI was very pleased with the service offered by etrailer. Their e-catalogue give me all the information I needed to make a decision about the product I was looking for. I received the safety chain set very quickly. I was amazed at the quality. This set is made specifically for my hitch so I'm not concerned about fit. The finish was excellent. I would like to see etrailer carry the ubolt set that these chains hook to which is installed in the bed of the truck. Not all hitches come with the ubolt set.

Well done etrailer.

by:

Very well made. A must for those living in states that require safety chains and for peace of mind any where you go. Very easy installation with just two wrenches needed. I installed these chains on a Ranch Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter.

by:

Ordered with Ranch Hitch Adapter; simple to install and a great added measure of security/safety. Very heavy duty parts throughout, no corners cut on design or manufacturing. Chains are HD as well and are long enough to hang on back of fifth wheel hitch housing to keep them out of the way when not in use.

by:

Thanks for the fast service. Items are just like described.

Exactly what I needed and delivery was quick.

AFter a year of solid use, these chains still look great and the hooks function perfectly. Surprisingly, I have received compliments from other trailer owners on the solid construction and the great look of these chains.

by:

Great communication. Besides usps loosing the first shipment everything else was good.

by:

Perfect fit, fast delivery, very happy

by:

Just arrived today. Will attach soon and see how well.it works.

by:

Works great. Thank you!
Don

by:

Shipping was fast, communication was great got here on time and bolted right on. Would recommend, thanks.

by:

The collar is slightly loose after I tightened the bolts all the way. The spacers need a 1/16 of an inch shaved off on all of them then it would be tight. I will grind a little off two of the spacers and that should do the trick. That being said, these are a great product for the price and complement the ranch hand 8" offset hitch that I installed. Glad I purchased this!

Safety chains that adapt to what I needed to satisfy DOT

by:

There seems to be some question on the legal requirement for safety chains on a gooseneck adapted 5th wheel. However, I decided there was no question when it comes to safety. These chains were exactly what I needed and e-trailer's response time was exceptional.

Safety chains are something you hope you never need, but provide a level of comfort knowing you have them, just in case. Ive never questioned the wisdom of installing these chains and am quite happy with them.

by:

I am using this on my 5th wheel gooseneck adapter. Then I had to buy D rings to hook it up to my truck. For SAFETY I would have thought that the chains would have come with the gooseneck adapter.

They work great!! Very heavy duty. I don’t worry about losing my trailer anymore.

by:

If anyone is looking for a set of safety chains for a goose neck trailer I would highly recommend these, very heavy duty and looks like they will last forever very well made and are heavy duty. This company that I purchased this item from as far as I'm concerned is a great company, I just ordered a under the bed B/W 30,000 lb hitch and needed safety chains to go with the Rancher adapter kit I have. These ladies that I worked with in getting this thing put together are awesome and very knowledgeable. Will order form them again, excellent company to deal with, Highly recommended.

  • Can a Sidewinder Pin Box Be Used w/ a B&W Companion Flat Bed Hitch
No, with your set-up you can not use a rotating pin box (Sidewinder). The Replacement Base for B&W Companion Flatbed 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVB3055 you have still uses the turnover ball for its connection point. The reason you can not use a rotating pin box with the turn over Companion is that the way it attaches using the turnover ball can not handle the torque that is placed on the hitch by using a rotating pin box. You would not be able to use a rotating pin box with any hitch that...

  • 5TH Wheel Hitch/Adapter For CM Truck Beds Flatbed On a 2016 Ram 3500
For your 2016 Ram 3500 with the CM Flat Bed I recommend using the Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3100. This will attach to the 5th wheel pin box and convert it to be used with your gooseneck ball. You will not need an offset to make jackknife turns, as you have 54" between your headache rack and the gooseneck ball. You will need the Safety Chains # AM3109 since you will be using a ball connection, and the Slide Hammer # AM3103 will aid in the installation...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer to Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for a Truck with an Aluma Trick Bed
First, the Curt X-5, # C16210, is designed to work with Curt Double-Lock, Flip and Store gooseneck hitches. If you have a different hitch it will not fit. Most of the force will be on the hitch but there will be some pressure on the bed as well and aluminum is more likely to deform so I do not recommend a 5th wheel adapter like this for your truck and new bed. Instead, I recommend using an adpater that attaches to the trailer pin box and fits around the gooseneck ball in the truck which...

Then, measure from the pin plate (the bottom of the pin box) down to the top of the ball in the bed of your truck. This distance...

The Convert-A-Ball 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter, # CAB-C5G, does not require welding, bolting it into place will be secure. Adding an adapter is meant to be more temporary than permanent which is why welding is not needed. The Ranch hitch, # AM3100, also bolts on but has more mounting hole options that the Covert-A-Ball. No, 5th wheel trailer connections do not require safety chains.
