Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

I actually bought 3 of theses and wheels for an overlanding trailer I built from a CE Smith boat trailer and other parts I bought from etrailer. I am happy with these tires and wheels as well as the trailer and other parts.

by:

After some research, I decided to buy these tires for my boat trailer. I had them mounted and balanced. So far, I’m very pleased. Pulls straight and smooth and handles interstate speeds well. No visible signs of problems. I check the pressures regularly. My neighbor bought the same tires based on my experience. I’d buy these again.

by:

Love etrailer and the Karrier tires they sell. I put a lot of miles on my fishing boat and I only trust the best to get me to my next fishing adventure. Extremely easy and fast delivery!

by:

Tires were shipped quickly and have worked well on my boat trailer. I would definitely buy tires again from etrailer.

by:

Bought 3 of these for an old Jayco pop-up camper, and they've worked out really well. Excellent tires, prompt shipping, and would definitely recommend.

by:

easy order fast delivery and in a sturdy cardboard container.

by:

There are so many trailer parts suppliers out there that are completely unreliable or worse. I had a very good experience with etrailer all the way from helping me find the correct wheels to the fast delivery. If I need something now I start here. Thank you.

by:

I have about 6200 miles on them with no issues. Most of the miles are going from WI to FL twice. They are wearing even and look like 3/4 tread left. They are installed on 2021 Coachmen 192RBS.

Exactly as ordered with super fast ship ping!!

After a year I have put approximately 11,000 miles on these tires for my Class A tow dolly. Ive had no issues whatsoever. The tires are wearing even and there are no noticeable deficiencies. I am very happy with them and feel confident of their durability. I will purchase them again.

by:

These tires came stock with my boat and lasted over 6 years of guiding with a lot of road miles.. found them on etrailer and had them on my doorstep within 3 days of ordering. Great service!

by:

Tires arrived promptly. They seem to be good tires. I have taken a 300 mile trip with them. They performed great, no issues.

by:

If you Google “best trailer tires” you’ll get 10 different opinions. I decided to go with etrailer because customer service is over the top and I’ve had very positive results with them in the past. Peyton was very knowledgeable and helpful. Time will tell how good my new tires are but the purchase process was smooth. Delivered in 4 days.

by:

Quick delivery, great price

by:

I purchased 2 tires and a tire and a rim for my spare. They look great and the fit was perfect. If I need tires again, I will be ordering them from etrailer.

by:

From the time I placed my order I was pleased with the way I was kept up to date. It was easy to track the order and it even arrived ahead of schedule. Thanks for that part of the process.

by:

bash shipping box and tire in excellent condition!

Always a pleasure doing business with y ou.

I bought a used 2013 Keystone Hideout from a private party. The rv didn't have a spare tire. I researched part numbers for the same Karrier tire and Dexter wheel that are on the camper. Search results had etrailer at the top of the list of responses. Prices for these pieces were competitive with other websites. Free shipping over 99 bucks sealed the deal. Just before making the order I noticed that two axle grease cap covers had cracks in them. I searched the ALKO/Hayes part numbers and etrailer was the only site ( other than the mfg ) to list/cross ref the covers AND they were in stock for a low price. I made the order on Tuesday and they arrived Friday which is real good for free shipping from Missouti to N.E. Pa ! Parts arrived securely packaged and in perfect shape. I am very satisfied with this order.

Hey, its a spare. Fully inflated and ready to go !

by:

Great trailer tires. Original set of these lasted 10 years. Great price and speedy delivery were a welcome bonus.

by:

I received my order (Karrier ST295/75R14) extremly fast and in good order. I've had it mounted and will be using it for a spare. For that reason I did not give it and excellent rating because I have no idea how well it will perform. Hopefully I'll never have to use it.
I will give etrailer.com an EXCELLENT rating for great service!

Its working well. Its still working hard as a spare.

by:

I bought these Karrier tires to replace the original Karrier tires that had worn out /failed (broken belt, uneven tread wear) on my 24’ RV. They have run over 8000 miles now and are still looking good. It is important to get the wheels balanced when new tires are installed.
It took a few weeks to get these as they were back ordered in 2021.

by:

I received my tires, Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C, within a few days if ordering. Very happy with that. They were well packaged, each tire in it's own box. They are mounted and my trailer is ready to go. I gave this 4 stars, because I haven't used them yet. Hopefully they'll be 5 star tires once I start using them.

by:

This is my second purchase from etrailer and could not be happier with their products and shipping. I have purchased Karrier Loas Star ST205/75R14 trailer tires. They have proven to be wearing well and are very smooth. All the other trailer tire brands that I have used would delaminate and not hold up.

etrailer will always get my business!

Doing a good job at max weight capacity!

  • Trailer Tires That Fit Aluminum Liger Trailer Wheel LH84FR
Thank you for the purchase of the Aluminum Liger Trailer Wheel - 14" x 5" - 5 on 4-1/2 # LH84FR. The best option for a tire that fits this wheel is simply going to depend on the load range you need, and you can choose from either of the two following options: - Load Range C - 1,925 lbs: Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10234 - Load Range D - 2,200 lbs: Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10235 Additionally, if you still need lug nuts, the correct option for the Liger...

  • Replacing 175/80R14 Trailer Tires
I can certainly point you in the right direction. A 175/80-R14 is fairly uncommon these days, but we do have options for replacing them. A 175/80-R14 has a diameter of 25" and is about 6.9" wide. The best replacement we can offer will be the Loadstar ST185/80D13 Bias trailer tire # AM3S331. This has a diameter of 24.4" and is 7.2" wide. So you will be losing .6" of diameter and adding .3" of width. I imagine this will fit very nicely in the current fender area, and you will stay very close...

  • Availability of Wheel and Tire in Size F78-14ST
The tire size F78-14ST is the same as the modern tire size of 205/75-14 like the part # AM32131 which comes on a 5 lug wheel. Then for just a tire in this size you would want the part # AM10234.

  • Can 205/75-14 Bias Ply Tire Be Replaced with Same Size and Load Range Radial Tire
Yes you can. You'll want to choose a 205/75-14 tire with a load range that meets or exceeds the fully loaded weight of your trailer. The # AM1ST86 Loadstar ST205/75D14 tire you'd looked at is a load range C, bias ply tire. Going with the same size and load range in a radial, like # AM10234 would provide you with a cooler running tire that would provide a smoother highway ride due to their more flexible sidewalls.

  • Replacement Aluminum Bobcat Wheel and 205/75-14 Tires for a Trailer
We no longer have the Aluminum Bobcat Trailer Wheel. The closest that we have is the Aluminum Jaguar Trailer Wheel # LHSJ211G. This is a 14" x 5-1/2" wheel with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. It works with 1/2"-20 lug studs and has a 0 offset. It also comes with a 1-year warranty. In order to replace the 205/75-14 tires you have now, I recommend using the Karrier Radial Trailer Tire part # AM10234. Kenda (Karrier) tires are our top of the line tire manufacturer. The Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel - 14" x 6" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Black PVD Finish # 460545MBPVD is not compatible with the Demco Kar Kaddy SS because it has a zero offset like most trailers require. You instead will want the Replacement Wheel for Demco Kar Kaddy SS Tow Dolly - Chrome # DM11574 for the very specific +42mm Offset. You can use the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # AM10234 for the tire and use the spare tire mount # DMRKSTM.

The Replacement Wheel # DM11574 is an exact replacement for the chrome wheel on the Demco Kar Kaddy SS Tow Dolly (9713045) so it would be considered an OEM piece. • Can Tire with Weight Rating of 1,925 lbs Safely be Used to Transport 1,190 lb Boat
Yes, a tire with a Load Range of C (1,925 lbs at 60 psi) like the Kenda ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10234 has more than enough weight capacity for your 1,190 lb boat. When you calculate tire weight capacity you will add the capacity of each tire together so in this case the combined weight rating is 3,850 lbs. Please note that even though you have a fairly high weight capacity you are still limited by your least rated component so if your axle weight rating is only 2,000 lbs you...

  • Are Different Size Trailer Tires Okay
It could be a problem for you to have tires with different psi ratings because that means it is likely you have different size tires. This will cause them to wear unevenly and for your trailer to potentially track differently and cause possible suspension issues. I very strongly recommend all four tires be the same size with the same load capacity in order to get the best possible performance. It may be something that cost a bit more now but is definitely one of those things that will save...

  • What Does Load Range Letters (B, C, D) Indicate On a Tire?
The load range C and D indicate how many ply layers the tire is constructed of. A load range c tire like the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10234 has 6 layers. These layers give the tire a weight rating of 1,925lbs at 60psi. The load range D version of the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10235 has 8 layers. The additional layers give it a weight rating of 2,200lbs at 75psi. The additional layers allow for more weight and higher PSI as it makes the tire stronger....

I don't have a way to provide the exact date code for any one set of tires that we ship but I can tell you that trailer tires are a top product for use and we sell a lot of them. This means that they don't sit on the shelf long in our warehouse once they leave the manufacturer, especially for common sizes like a 205/75-14. Therefore, it's very likely that the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire part # AM10234 will be under a year old. I would also like to point out our warehouse is...
