Karrier S-Trail Radials with Automotive-Grade Tread

Kenda Karrier S-Trail Tread Vs Standard Tread

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the automotive-grade, computer-generated tread on these Karrier S-Trail radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Karrier S-Trail tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Karrier S-Trail radials are constructed with double steel belts and full nylon plies for increased durability and endurance. The premium rubber compound materials of this tire help disperse heat.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Great service and fast shipping (free too) I bought a set of these mounted and bought this one for a spare. Chose these mostly for the load and speed rating as I use my trailer primarily on the hiway.

Ive run a few loads down the hiway with these tires. They run better than the original bias belted tires ever did. I went with these mainly for hiway use for higher speed and load rating and theyve done well.

@Joseph We're glad to hear that!

This trailer tire has seen 3500 highway miles at high speeds with an approximately 1800 pound load (trailer and Goldwing motorcycle). The tire is quiet and tracks well. The tread wear is very slight and even. There are no chunks missing from the tread pattern like I've seen with other trailer tires that take the kind of abuse I put them through. Absolutely no signs of weather checking on the sidewalls. Periodic tire re-inflation frequency is perfectly acceptable. All tires need occasional refilling. This tire scarcely looses 5 - 8 PSI over a period of a year.

One year review. We moved from Seattle, WA to Athens, GA. Just short of 3000 miles. These were on an overloaded boat trailer. I was happy for the extra load capacity and nice big tires. Ride smooth and no sway, which my wife was happy about. One less thing to worry about. I also have Karriers on my utility trailer. Good tires and value.

Purchased to replace original bias ply tires that were ten years old. Rides as well as original tires. Maybe a little less bouncing when empty. I think the tires look nicer as well. Used the original rims. If the trailer lasts long enough I would use these tires again.

The tires came quickly and and good condition. What more can you ask? Haven't mounted yet though.

They are great tires. Drove cross country with them. No issues.

They are on a jet ski trailer that travels from St. Louis Mo, to Lake Mi. That’s a lot of Hwy . I wanted piece if mind and higher rating.
All good

This is my second set of these tires for my boat trailer. I've got many miles out of the 1st set with no issues at all. Nice tread that wears evenly.

excellent service on phone and tracking etc...excellent tires as well.

Bjorn T.

excellent. Great tires, great service and great clarification when I called the 800 number. Much thanks, Bjorn

Very pleased with tires and rims and most of all the coupler hitch thank you for free shipping too !

Tire was back ordered, I waited, not needed right away. New tire has a date code of 5/21, 14 months old already. Also ordered a halogen light. The box was 2.5 times too big. Halogen light was unwrapped and unprotected in the box. I hope it works. Big fail on this one!

I am so sorry that this happened to you! Was your light damaged in any way?

Light was scratched, and cover had rubber marks on it from the tire. I was replacing an identical light. My old cover was fine, so I used what I had. I made it work.

I've bought these tires before and have had excellent service from them. I use them on a boat trailer carrying about 1500lbs. We go to Baja Mexico every year with the boat (abt 3700kms one way) and experience nasty potholes that would destroy a lesser tire! There's not much tread on the tire when new so they dont last for a lot of miles/kilometers but it sure is a tough tire!

Great product as advertised.
I didn't
realize the dismounting/mounting/tire disposal was going to be as much from BigO as it turned out, so not sure how much I ended up saving, but the tires should last another 10 years so good to go.

Ground shipping was free and took only a couple business days which was impressive over the holiday weekend. Wheels/tires look great--very happy so far, can't wait to get them on the skiff trailer. etrailer had the heavier rated tire for this rim size, most were the nylon biased ply--these tires give a better piece of mind for running longer distances given the awful construction conditions in NE FL!

It is definitely a trailer tire.

I have used the tires for a total of 12 times in two weeks total in the past year and I dont think I am a good person to review the tires. But they did hold air and no dry rot sitting in the sun for 12 months. Sorry I could not be of more help

Your review is great! We love to hear your opinions and experiences with the product.

Mounted these on my boat trailer and drove it from PA to Louisiana for a move… not one issue at all.

Great tires so far. They hauled my motorcycle from Michigan to Texas and back 1200 miles each way without any blowouts.

These tires are exactly what i needed. They came fast and didnt cost an arm and a leg. Tractor supply tires didnt last a month hauling my Z turn mower. They had a poor load rating of 745lbs. These are rated at 1220lbs and handle tye weight of my mowing equipment without fail. I will be ordering a backup set soon!

Very nice tire. I feel better having two 1250lb tires taking my 2000lb trailer well above it's GVW. I looks good too.

Perfect fit for the new rims of the tra iler

Bought these as an upgrade for my boat trailer. Typical 4.80x12 tires would be totally gone in 2 seasons. After 1 full season, these still look terrific. Will purchase again when these finally wear out.

I pull my boat on interstate to most my fishing locations on average I was changing the bias tire I was using every 2500 to 3000 miles. Sine installing the kenda radial I have pulled boat to Pennsylvania and back over a thousand miles and tires still look new. More than pleased

Fast shipping and packaging was good tires look great!

I bought these for our 4 x 8 Carryall trailer. My sister and I use the trailer behind our Subarus a lot for hauling stuff to, from, and around our little farm, hauling the 4 wheeler, kayaks and canoes, when we go camping, hauling firewood, gravel, fertilizer, etc. etc. etc. It's cheaper than having a truck!

Overall I am impressed. Surprised at first by how they were packed - tread to tread in a large heavy cardboard box. I've bought other small tires elsewhere and had them come so tightly banded together that it made it hard to spread the beads to get them to seat. I mounted these with a couple old tire irons we have here on the farm, took less than 5 minutes for the 2, (I'm a 72 year old woman) they took air right away and the beads seated with less than 20 PSI.

They look good! They are a little bigger in diameter and in tread width. The 4.80/12 tires they replaced always looked... skinny. These look like real tires. The tread pattern is impressive too. It's a water moving automotive design, not the squiggly grooves of the old tires.

I was always concerned putting 90 PSI in the old ones in order to carry the weight, especially as they are now almost 20 years old, weather cracked and well worn. These new tires max inflate at 65 PSI.

We had 6" of snow the day after I mounted them and I had to go pick up some lumber. The trailer handled beautifully on the snow covered and then wet roads. It rides nicer too, not as jumpy as it was empty. Time will tell how they hold up, too soon to tell.

But.... as noted above, they are noticeably wider than the 4.80s they replaced, they extend beyond the fenders about an inch, a fact I had not anticipated. They threw an awful lot of slop on the lumber from the wet roads, and I'm concerned that a heavy load might bring the outside flange of the fender into contact with the tread. I guess I'm going to have to do something about the fenders. Time to fire up the welder! LOL

Tall iStacey

Well we cut the fenders in half lengthwise fired up the welder and added 2 inches to their width. That resolved the issue of the tires throwing slop. Taint particularly pretty, but its functional. As for the tires, they are fine. Weve run them a year now, out on the road and around the farm. Im pleased with them. We tend to load our trailer heavy, just had 560 board feet of green lumber on it, the tires didnt seem to mind at all. Except for the mud on them, they look as good as new. They ride well, have not given me any issues at all.

Great upgrade from my standard tires for better stability and smoother ride.

A 4 on 4.75 inch bolt pattern is not a standard trailer bolt pattern but sometimes this measure is hard to take so what you might have is a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern which is probably the most common trailer wheel bolt pattern out there. I'd try measuring the bolt pattern again and make sure you are measuring from center of one wheel stud to the center of the one diagonally across from it. Now the closest tire size to what you have is the 145/80-12 so for a wheel and tire combo in that size...

  • Comparing Bias-Ply And Radial-Ply Tires For A Boat Trailer
Bias-ply tires are engineered with a crisscross pattern of overlapping body plies, typically at 30 to 45-degree opposing angles. This makes for a more stable sidewall for the tire, but is more of a precursor design to radial tires. Radial tires have steel belts oriented in a 90-degree angle, give a much smoother ride, lower fuel consumption, better traction and flotation, improved cut resistance in the tread area, and run much cooler than bias. Overall, radial tires are the better option...
