Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I installed these on a boat trailer. No sign of rust so far.

by:

Very good product. Good quality. No issues. Be in service for over a year

by:

Great brakes !

by:

Cannot recall the exact circumstances but after ordering these I received a message from George and he helped me right away. Great service! Super happy with everything so far. Will definitely be returning for anything new in the future l.

by:

I painted mine to match my wheels

by:

Shipping is horrible. They placed (2) drum kits, (2) brake kits and (1) wheel in the same package without any rigid support between the components. Upon delivery, a brake drum with a chip where the seal is installed and one brake kit was almost disassembled. Studs in the backing plates were dislodged due to hitting other parts. Your best bet is to order everything individually or at most in pairs if you don’t want damage. Package was so heavy, UPS driver basically rolled it out the truck. Have not installed so can’t comment on quality. With so many bad reviews on packaging, one would think it would be addressed.

by:

Step by step shipping updates were fant astic

by:

just picked up today, product looks great, as described. One tang on one lock washer was broken off upon delivery, but not a big deal. Fast delivery to Blaine for pick up.

working great. no messing around every year with my boat trailer brakes now.

by:

Thanks to help from Ashley, all the components I ordered were a perfect fit for adding brakes to my boat trailer. Since I am pulling my 18' runabout with a minivan, like feeling the trailer brakes kick in during stops. Hopefully they do not turn into a maintenance issue but since the majority of the time I am launching in fresh water, optimistic they will provide years of service.

by:

Installed on a cargomate 6x12 enclosed. It all (brake kit and drums) just fit, and now they just work. As advertised. No issues.

  • Trailer Hub/Drum that has 7 inch Drum and 5 Lug Bolt Pattern
We have hubs that fit your spindle but they are 10 inch drums like you said wouldn't work. We don't have any that would fit that have a drum that's smaller. If by chance both of your bearings are L44649 you could use the part # AKHD-545-2-EZ-2K which has the bolt pattern you need and the drum is 7 inch.

  • Parts Needed to Add Electric Brakes to 3,500 lb Trailer Axle that will See Salted Roads
For a 3,500 lb trailer axle that will see salted roads I would recommend the galvanized hub/drum part # AKHD-545-35-G-K which will do a much better job fighting corrosion than a painted hub. There aren't any galvanized brake assemblies available but the Dexter assemblies are known to hold up really well so for that I would recommend the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust part # 23-468-469 which also happen to be self adjusting so you'd never have to mess with brake adjustments.

  • Replacement Hub and Drum Assembly for 3,500 lb Boat Trailer Axle with #84 Spindles
Thank you for all of the specs! To replace your hub/drum assembly I recommend the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-G-K which meets all of the specs you gave and has a galvanized finish to it will hold up much better to water exposure than the standard powder coat finish we see on regular hub/drum setups. This comes with a grease cap for a standard spindle but you can swap that out with your Bearing Buddy caps no problem. Attached is an installation video for you to check out.

  • Parts to Convert Surge Brakes to Electric Brakes on Boat Trailer With 3,500 lb Axles
Thanks so much for that info, and we can get your boat trailer set up with electric brakes. Since you had an idler hub you will need a hub and drum for electric brakes, and with the bearing numbers you gave, that means you have 3,500 lb axles. That said, here is everything you'll need to make the conversion: - Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 3,500-lb Axles - 10" Diameter - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized # AKHD-545-35-G-K - Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand...

The etrailer Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-G-K is galvanized coated, making it ideal to be used with your boat trailer. It has a 5 on 4-1/2" lug pattern and includes new lug nuts, races, bearings and a grease seal for installation. It looks...

For as trashed as those brake assemblies are I am impressed with how spotless that spindle is! Based on the bearing numbers you mentioned you have a #84 spindle and the hub part # AKHD-545-35-G-K is correct. Since this its galvanized it's a really great option as it will fight corrosion. The flexible brake line kits like the part # 18SI-BLKIT is what I would go with. They are just as durable as anything else and a lot easier to install. You can confirm this by measuring the inner diameter of the brake drum which will be 10 inches and the inside depth which will be 2-1/4 inches.
