This Advent Air AC unit lets you replace an existing, old or broken air conditioner or add a new air conditioner to an area on your RV or camper that doesn't already have one. The AC has a powerful fan and motor that provides a steady stream of air to efficiently cool the inside of your RV on a hot or muggy day. For your convenience, the included air distribution box has a built-in thermostat that lets you set the fan speed and temperature. The included start capacitor will help jumpstart the AC. This beneficial upgrade provides the AC a boost when shore power or generator power isn't enough to start it. And everything you need in order to replace or add an AC unit is included, which makes installation simple and easy.

Air Distribution Box and Thermostat

Advent Air Air Distribution Box

The AC unit includes an air distribution box with a built-in thermostat. The dial on the left controls the 3 cool settings and the 3 fan speed settings, which let you increase or decrease the airflow. If you add an electric heat strip (sold separately) to remove the chill on cold mornings, then the dial also controls the heat setting. The dial on the right allows you to set the temperature. Additionally, there are adjustable registers on the front and back of the box. These can be tilted up, down, or side-to-side for directing the air where needed. The removable air filter prevents dust and dirt from building up on the fan blades.

Start Capacitor

Advent Air Start Capacitor

If your campsite or generator isn't able to draw the power you need, then you may have difficulty starting your AC unit. The included start capacitor, however, can eliminate this problem. The capacitor stores energy that will later be used to jumpstart the AC. Once the sufficient amount of power has been supplied to the AC, the compressor will start to run, and the internal relay switch will turn the start capacitor off. At the same time, the compressor will send "back voltage" to the relay switch and capacitor in order to energize them for the next startup.

Simple Installation

Advent Air AC Installation 13,500 BTU

Because your RV is likely already prepped and pre-wired for an AC unit, installation is simple and easy. Most AC units, including this one, are designed to fit an opening that measures 14-1/4" x 14-1/4". Depending on your roof setup, you may need to do minimal alterations. If the opening is larger than 14-3/8" x 14-3/8", you will need to install spacers between the sides of the unit and the opening's edges. If the opening is smaller than 14-1/8" x 14-1/8", you will need to enlarge the hole to fit the unit snugly inside the opening.

Advent Air AC Collapsible Gasket and Foam Pads

On the bottom of the AC, there's a thick, collapsible gasket with 6 noise-reducing foam pads. This provides support between the RV roof and AC and seals the opening to prevent water and outside air from leaking in. Because of this, the use of fresh sealant isn't required during installation.

To install the start capacitor, bolt it to the fan motor support with the included hardware and then route the wires to the run capacitor.

Once installed, the hard plastic cover on the AC can easily be removed for maintenance and cleaning.

Advent Air Warranty Coverage

2-Year limited warranty covers defective units when installed correctly on approved applications. The warranty does not cover units installed incorrectly. To ensure air conditioner is installed correctly, please see the questionnaire pdf below. A filled-out questionnaire is required for warranty coverage.

If you are not comfortable using a voltmeter (or removing the charge from the start capacitor), youll want to make a service appointment with your local RV dealer to verify the installation. Print the pdfs below (warranty- questionnaire, warranty dealer information) and take them along with the RV to your local dealer. ASA does compensate dealers for warranty work as outlined in the dealer information pdf. You may be charged by the dealer for time spent investigating the installation.

We have a 14' cargo trailer conversion. It is a beautiful, insulated camper my son and I built and I was loathe to cut a hole in the one-piece aluminum roof. I tried a portable AC unit with the drier-type vent; it didn't work at all. I then converted a window AC unit to work from inside the camper with appropriate duct work; it also did not work worth a hoot. Meanwhile, my wife and I were sweating our tails off. I finally broke down and bought this roof-mounted RV AC unit. It was time to cut a hole in that beautiful one-piece roof!

As I recall, the directions were fairly easy to understand and follow. I cut the hole in the ceiling, ran a 20 amp circuit from my panel, and did a frame build to reinforce the roof for strength. I used 3/4" pressure-treated plywood to build the box between the roof and ceiling, and 3/4" finished plywood to create the cross-supports, which I attached to the metal frame from the inside of the camper with large sheet metal screws because there wasn't room between the ceiling and roof to work. I then built up the area on the ceiling to match the cross-supports for the inside component to attach to. I have attached a picture.

The results? This AC rocks! It can be 100+ degrees in our humid, NE Texas summer, and I can go out and turn this thing on, and in minutes you can feel a big difference. Within an hour, it's too cold on high! My only complaint is that when you turn up the temp setting, the fan still runs after the compressor shuts off. This jacks up the humidity considerably. We keep a dehumidifier running and that helps a lot. I haven't had the time to look into whether it's possible to convert this thing to a thermostat controlled unit; if it is, I'll probably do that so the unit will shut off altogether when the desired temp is reached. Other than that, I can't recommend this unit highly enough! Also, etrailers was great to order from - I highly recommend them, as well.

by:

Overall I'm happy with the unit. Installation was pretty straight forward double checking our progress along the way. Upon connection to power the GFCI tripped, this resulted into triage finding one wire penetrated by a screw from the junction cover. Start to finish with removal of the old roof vent and quite a bit of conversation was six hours.

One small discrepancy which was welcomed is the directions for the rooftop unit specify a 2.5" - 5" roof but further provide ducting instructions for 1"-2" roofs. I had purchased plywood anticipating the need for a spacer but happily skipped it.

Originally shipped unit was damaged in transit and etrailer made that whole exchange quick and easy, I was actually quite impressed.

by:

I DON'T KNOW IF THE UNIT IS GOOD BECAUSE YOU SENT ME A DAMAGED UNIT AND THE SECOND UNIT IS DAMAGED TOO. YOU SENT ME RETURNED LABELS AND I RETURNED THEM AND YOU SENT ME A 3RD UNIT AND IT'S ALSO DAMAGED TOO I EMAILED THIS COMPANY ABOUT 4 TIMES FOR A RETURN LABEL TO SEND BACK AND GET A REFUND BUT NO RESPONSE I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GOT THE OTHER UNITS BACK BECAUSE YOU WONT'T RESPOND TO MY EMAILS

I am very pleased with my purchase ( Advent Air Conditioner System -Manual-13,500) The
informational videos (highly recommended), that help guide you through self installation which has a big impact on you purchase. Customer service was great .She was polite, prompt, and thorough. I have no Myself t installed the AC unit yet but after I do and use it for a while, I will Post another comment for updates. I really hope this helps because I’m honest and I’m not a Karen. I myself rely heavily on honest comments. So far so good.

by:

Great a/c unit. Happy with the price. Installed myself - super simple/really quick. The “easy start” capacitor option is a “must have”. Very low current drain at start-up compared to the old one that I removed. Cools fast. My entire motor home (36 ft) was quite comfy in about 15 minutes. It could be a little quieter but the tv volume has been up to the challenge so far.

All of my comments stand. I am, however, a little disappointed by the amount of condensation drip through the control unit. I have to put a pan on the floor to prevent a puddle from forming. Be especially watchful if you have carpet underneath. Also, when you install it for diy-ers attach a drain tube to the main unit or there will water down the side of your rvmy.

by:

This unit works well in our travel trailer cooling the entire trailer from back to front within 10 to 15 minutes! Very pleased with this purchase!

by:

I received the unit the afternoon before I was scheduled to leave for camping. The outside unit and the inner distribution box fit perfectly, so I was able to leave on time for the weekend camping trip. Three days in 90 degree weather and I was comfortable as heck. The Advent 13,500 Btu worked perfectly. Looks good too!

by:

We love our air conditioner. It looks and works great! Fairly easy to install (if you have some basic skills). Would definitely choose this again, if the need would arise.

by:

Cools the Camper very well a bit noisey but that is to be expected on a roof top unit

by:

Shipped in no issues. Went to install and found the smaller square cut for airflow was off by almost an inch which also pushed the tab for the mounting bolt out, causing everything else to be unaligned. Had to cut and fill in to fit everything correctly.

by:

etrailer customer service again never fails I received my shipment yesterday and one of the boxes was open and one part was missing I took a picture of it called customer service sent it to him and within 24 hours the replacement has been sent. There was no question about the claim or need to file it with UPS. I've had several different transactions with etrailer their website is great easy to use and if I have any questions, I can get quick answers from a real person and the customer service has always been great tracking etcetera highly recommend etrailer.

E trailer made things pretty easy. I needed a new AC unit for vending trailer use. The old model was discontinued, but a replacement was offered, and purchased. Fairly simple installation, and reasonably priced. Their team had knowledge of the product, and I was pleased with the purchase. Works fine so far.

by:

Easy install. However the capacitor had to be replaced after a couple months. The capacitor came quickly and easily installed. Nice unit and works great. I have it installed in our Florida home which is a single wide 8x35 with a lanai.

by:

Cranks cold air! Cools my sprinter in minutes. Easy to install a wire up. Cheap!

by:

Easy to install works great I got the heat option that comes in handy to knock the chill off in cooler weather looks like the original unit very happy with product!

by:

We bought this to replace our Dometic in our Jayco 145RB. The installation was easy and straightforward. The toughest part was getting it on the roof. Sliding it up a ladder on the side of the trailer worked very well, but it is heavy. It takes a bit longer to cool the trailer down than the Dometic (I'm guessing that's because the Dometic has 4 vents and this one has only 2). If you have any mechanical skills at all, you should have no problem with this install. I would suggest watching the video posted on etrailer regardless of your experience. Their tip to turn the AC to Medium cool after the tailer is cooled down is a good one, even in 90+ degree heat. I will purchase from etrailer again. They ROCK!

by:

Nice quality AC unit. Unit was initially on backorder. Amy J was very helpful in updating me of the status of my AC unit.

by:

Installation was simple and unit has preformed perfectly and we have had our rv in several states. Highly recommend.

by:

Has gotten plenty of use in the last year, thing runs like a champ.

For a replacement I recommend the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner w/ Air Distribution Box and Wall Thermostat # ADV94FR. This has everything you need, including a digital thermostat, for a complete replacement. The system has a 13,500 Btu capacity and comes with a 2-year warranty. If you would like an electric heat pump the # ACMHD can be added on. You also have the option of adding the start capacitor # ACMSCKIT for a power boost if enough power isn't available from your generator or campsite.
