Advent Air Dometic Plug-In

This AC unit from Advent Air is designed to replace the old or broken Dometic air conditioner on your RV or camper. It plugs directly into your Dometic setup and works seamlessly with your existing, in-good-working-order Dometic air distribution box and thermostat. This eliminates the need of an adapter wiring kit, which saves you time and effort. The AC has a powerful fan and motor that provides a steady stream of air to efficiently cool the inside of your RV on a hot or muggy day. The included start capacitor will help jumpstart the AC. This beneficial upgrade provides the AC a boost when shore power or generator power isn't enough to start it. And everything you need in order to replace your AC unit is included, which makes installation simple and easy.

Start Capacitor

Advent Air Start Capacitor

If your campsite or generator isn't able to draw the power you need, then you may have difficulty starting your AC unit. The included start capacitor, however, can eliminate this problem. The capacitor stores energy that will later be used to jumpstart the AC. Once the sufficient amount of power has been supplied to the AC, the compressor will start to run, and the internal relay switch will turn the start capacitor off. At the same time, the compressor will send "back voltage" to the relay switch and capacitor in order to energize them for the next startup.

Simple Installation

Advent Air AC Installation 15,000 BTU

Because your RV is likely already prepped and pre-wired for an AC unit, installation is simple and easy. Most AC units, including this one, are designed to fit an opening that measures 14-1/4" x 14-1/4". Depending on your roof setup, you may need to do minimal alterations. If the opening is larger than 14-3/8" x 14-3/8", you will need to install spacers between the sides of the unit and the opening's edges. If the opening is smaller than 14-1/8" x 14-1/8", you will need to enlarge the hole to fit the unit snugly inside the opening.

Advent Air AC Collapsible Gasket and Foam Pads

On the bottom of the AC, there's a thick, collapsible gasket with 6 noise-reducing foam pads. This provides support between the RV roof and AC and seals the opening to prevent water and outside air from leaking in. Because of this, the use of fresh sealant isn't required during installation.

To install the start capacitor, bolt it to the fan motor support with the included hardware and then route the wires to the run capacitor.

Once installed, the hard plastic cover on the AC can easily be removed for maintenance and cleaning.

Advent Air Warranty Coverage

2-Year limited warranty covers defective units when installed correctly on approved applications. The warranty does not cover units installed incorrectly. To ensure air conditioner is installed correctly, please see the questionnaire pdf below. A filled-out questionnaire is required for warranty coverage.

If you are not comfortable using a voltmeter (or removing the charge from the start capacitor), youll want to make a service appointment with your local RV dealer to verify the installation. Print the pdfs below (warranty- questionnaire, warranty dealer information) and take them along with the RV to your local dealer. ASA does compensate dealers for warranty work as outlined in the dealer information pdf. You may be charged by the dealer for time spent investigating the installation.

2 stars for UPS as the AC was delivered damaged. It was transported with the back end down because the compressor was tilted to the back and the accumulator was touching the condenser housing. I was able to straighten the base at the compressor supports and get the compressor back perpendicular to the base and get 1/4" space for the accumulator. The front of the base has a dent which is only cosmetic. The white shroud has a small dimple where the top of the compressor came in contact with the shroud. Something was put on top of the box to force the shroud to hit the compressor.
3 stars for Advent for having no instructions with the unit, insufficient packaging for motor freight, insufficient warnings for keeping the unit upright, and a noisy compressor. Although the squirrel cage blower has a 5 mm wobble, it manages to run smooth. Seams to perform OK and time will tell if it can out last Dometic. I have had 2 Dometic units, first lasted 3 years and the last one 6 years.
Note most people would not notice the compressor noise, but I have ducted discharge and ducted return air.
4 stars for e-trailer for being easy to order and helpful with technical questions. They do not know everything, but did get me Advent technical support for help. Order status was inaccurate, it showed a 2 week shipping delay and then it was shipped with only 1/2 week delay.

After a year, still working. Purchased primarily for price and was able to reuse the control module and Tstat from the Dometic unit. Would have preferred a quieter unit and next time will do more research and hopefully pay more for better quality. Will see how long this one will last. I expect 10 years to be satisfied.

Unit arrived Thursday and start capacitor Friday. Installed on my RV today (Saturday) and seems to be working great. It is 106 degrees and the camper is nice and cool. I did have one issue as the compressor looks like the mount is bent a little and the copper line going to the condenser was rubbing against the cover. I bent the line to prevent this. Well pleased with the price.

When I talked to Rochelle A she was more than helpful getting me the right air conditioner. After watching the video the install was seamless. The hardest part of the install was getting the air conditioner on the roof??

I'm not impressed with this ac unit at all when I got it the packaging was not sufficient for the type of shipping they use the box was torn and base of the product was denied up but internally it was ok I figured that's ok no one can see it on top of the camper anyway. I've been a mechanic all my life so I done the installation my self. Right out of the box I removed the cover and found the fan will not free spin it is hitting the black foam that in cases the cooling condenser found that if pick up on the back of the unit it will free up and turn. In looking at this looked like possible after installation would remedy the problem. After installation the problem was still there and the only way to fix this problem was to shim the back up (the part of the unit closest to the back of the camper) to allow the fan to free up.
Normally I would had sent it back at this point but my camper is on a permanent spot and I do not travel with this one so I figured I can live with that so I left the shims in place. After running for a while I was hearing an odd noise from the unit and got back on top of the camper and removed the cover again to find the unit was filling up with water because there was no drain holes at the back of the unit. The only hole under the condenser had a plug in it. But that hole was not in a proper spot to drain water. So I had to drill 2 drain holes in proper spots to fix this problem. After all that it actually works good now. So I'll not bother with trying to jump through hoops to return it but because it was a lot better price than a factory replacement unit and I don't travel this camper so the shims don't have to be removed every time I travel. Best I can tell you is you get what you pay for and I'll never buy another one of these units.

There was a a bit of confusion on having a unit in stock that cost me a few days delay. When the unit was received, it was in good shape and went in where the old unit was without a hitch. It is in operation and working find. I am pleased.

The unit is still working and in use every day. Still seems like a great investment.

I was very happy with the service I received, Kate F did an excellent job communicating with me and was very attentive to keeping me informed and when the product for my RV A/C was out of stock but ordered, she stayed in contact with me by sending me emails about my order and also was very knowledgeable about the arrival est and contacted me when it shipped and arrived thru the tracking info. The roof top advent air unit was in very good shape when it arrived. I would recommend etrailer to anyone who wants professional service for their RV parts needs.

by:

It had damage from shipping, pan was bent, fan wouldn't turn, three weeks late and I bent the pan back so the it could work, 11 months later the hard start stop working. But was not covered under the 2 year warranty. Not very happy!!

by:

Overall, the air conditioner as a direct replacement for my duo therm is great. It was an easy, straightforward install. I love the capacitor start. I’m giving it three stars because the heat pump portion does not appear to work.

by:

Old dometic unit stopped cooling after many years, this has good reviews and I purchased it. Install was a breeze as it was plug and play. Back in business. Cools great and young lady on the phone (Cloda M)was knowledgeable about product.

by:

My Dometic had a leak after 6 years. I decided to replace it with this Advent and couldn’t be happier. Total install time by myself was about an hour and a half including the soft start install. I watched a couple of videos which helped greatly. It’s shown here with the old unit in front. I’ve had it for about 2 days and it will take it down to 65 degrees.

by:

Good customer service and prompt delivery. AC unit is working great a year now.

by:

The air conditioner fit perfectly and the interface with the old Dometic Duo-Therm was spot on . I haven't rated the AC until now due to a bad relay in my system that I have since fixed. Hardest part of the job was getting the unit up onto the roof.

by:

I am very pleased so far. My new A/C was delivered in two days in perfect shape. I watched [an etrailer] video on YouTube on how to install this unit and then went to work. It took me a total of 45 minutes to removed the old 13500BTU Dometic unit and install the new Advent 15000BTU unit. The hardest part was getting the new one on the roof and the old one off. My old unit was 5 years old, freezing up and not cooling more than 5 degrees. This unit so far is not as loud and is blowing really cold air. Watch video first and have a friend help lift the units.

by:

Bought Advent air conditioner as a replacement for a Dometic that quit working. Perfect replacement with easy installation. Arrived quicker than expected too. Very satisfied!!!

by:

Kelsey S was a exceptional help she answered all my questions and got me everything I needed when I received the ordered there was a slight dent in the metal side of the A/C from shipping but covered had to be removed to install the stsrt capacitor so there was no damage inside and installation was a breeze from watching there tech videos and A/C operation is excellent with no issues as of the 1st use thanks for all thee help

by:

Purchased with the soft start. Easy install. Soft start took 15 mins. Ac install took about 30 mins. Plugged right in and immediately blew ice cold air.

Shipping updates were accurate and helpful. Got it just in time for our trip!

Will be using e-trailer again and highly recommend them.

by:

We had a great experience working with trailer customer service to pick the right unit for our trailer. The air conditioner has worked flawlessly. It was easy to install and does a good job cooling the trailer. I’m very happy with the purchase.

by:

What a great deal. So I live on the easy side of Oregon and for those that don't know we get fairly warm in the summer time, like mid 90's to around 105. Well my main AC unit, I have one in my bedroom as well, decided it had served it's life and quit on me. Lucky for me I found this amazing deal on an OEM replacement for my Dometic. When they say it's a plug and play they are not joking. It took myself and 1 buddy to do the entire swap, pulling the old off and attaching new, a whole 30 minutes start to finish. As of right now this AC unit is doing everything I asked for and at a way better price point than a Dometic.

by:

Box was a little beat up And one small debt in cover. Overall it needs a little bit more cushion or packaging around the back end of the unit

The unit arrived as scheduled and the packaging and product appear to be in good condition with no signs of damage. The installation is set for Nov 1, 2024. Upon completion of the install, I will follow up with closing comments. The staff of Etrailer have been extremely helpful when I have called for information. UPS delivered the product, and the driver was very helpful and assisted me in moving the container to the trailer location. So far so good!

by:

Perfect fit didn’t even have to change wiring plugs works great when replacing old discontinued AC unit

by:

A/C unit fit great, i like how etrailer website let me know what units were compatible with my trailer . would buy again

by:

Came damaged and we ordered it in an emergency before an important trip. We didn’t have enough time to return it so we had to fix it and make it work. So far it has worked decently well as long as the temp outside isn’t above 100.

by:

Got the air conditioner installed and it seems to be working great so for it was easy to hook up plug and play as the ad said I have not used it to much yet but Im getting ready to go camping
