Thule ThruRide

The Thule ThruRide fork-mount bike rack lets you transport a bicycle with a thru-axle on your roof without an adapter. A wide-jaw clamp with a precision dial allows you to mount your bike with one hand and steady it with the other. A sliding cradle with a ratcheting strap accommodates most bike lengths and secures your rear wheel to the tray. And an included adapter allows you to carry a bike with 9-mm quick-release skewer.

Fork Mount for Thru-Axle Bikes

Thule ThruRide Clamp

The ThruRide holds your bike by the thru-axle. After removing the front wheel, just re-insert your bike's thru-axle into the fork and set the axle in the clamp while holding the bike steady with your free hand. Your bike's skewer rests in the clamp without the need for an adapter. Next, simply close the cam-action hood to secure the axle in the clamp. If the clamp's grip is too tight or to loose, use the precision dial to fine-tune the fit. You can add a One-Key System lock cylinder (TH512 - sold separately) to the hood to lock your bike to the rack.

Included 9-mm Skewer

An included adapter allows you to carry a bike with a 9-mm quick-release skewer. Just set the skewer in the clamp, then load your bike onto the skewer, and secure it with the cam-action hood.

Thule Lockable Skewer

You can upgrade the adapter to a locking 9-mm quick-release skewer (TH535SKR - sold separately) to secure your bike to the rack.

Sliding Rear-Wheel Cradle with Ratcheting Strap

Thule ThruRide Wheel Cradle

The ThruRide's rear-wheel cradle slides along the tray to accommodate bikes of varying lengths. The cradle's ratcheting strap secures your bike wheel to the tray, and a padded rim protector keeps the wheel from getting scratched or scuffed during transport.

Universal Mounting Hardware

Around-The-Bar Mount

The rack is easy to install with the included Quick Flip mounting brackets. Just set the rack on your crossbars, slide the T-bolts into the brackets, and then tighten the bolts so the brackets are snug against the bottom of your crossbar. The rear bolts tighten using hand knobs and the front bolts tighten by turning the cam levers. Once the front bolts are tight, close the cam levers to hold the brackets in place and secure the rack to your crossbars. The Quick Flip brackets fit any crossbar size or style. The tips of the bracket should face down when installing on thinner bars and face up for use on wider crossbars.

Lockable Cam Lever

You can lock the rack to your crossbars by installing a One-Key System lock cylinder in the cam lever. The 2-pack lock system means the rack's hood lock and mounting hardware lock are keyed alike.

T-Bolt Mount

To install the front of the ThruRide directly into the top channels of your crossbars, attach 2 T-bolts in place of the brackets on the underside of the hood assembly. Then just slide the front of the rack into the top channel of your crossbars and secure it using the cam levers.

Rear Mounting Bracket

The rear mounting bracket tightens around your crossbar with hand knobs and 2 threaded bolts. The bracket has 1 open end and 1 closed end so you can install and remove the rack without completely removing the bracket. To secure it to your crossbar, slide the open end of the bracket onto the bolt and tighten the hand knobs.

D-Shaped Aluminum Wheel Tray

D-Shaped Tray

The ThruRide's rustproof, lightweight aluminum wheel tray is D-shaped so it won't flex as much as standard, V-shaped trays. The D-shaped tray reduces stress on your bike frame during high winds and hard turns. The tray is also easier to clean with no dirt-collecting corners and crevices.

Great bike carrier in and of itself. But despite being advertised on this site as compatible with Toyota RAV4 factory crossbars, it didn’t quite fit. Used some bolt cutters to shorten the back end bolts on the front attachment and it worked well enough to be secure. Other than that it’s a great carrier. 505883

Review from a similar ThruRide in Roof Bike Racks

We got 2 replacement skewers for our roof bike racks because ours had seized up. They work just as the old ones did. We are a little concerned that we’ve had to replace them multiple times for the same reason - but that’s a Thule issue, not etrailer. etrailer customer service was incredible. We got an actual person on the phone with minimal wait time. We needed to rush the shipping and they were able to do that for a reasonable price - the item arrived as promised. The agent was able to look up our previous order to make sure we were getting the right parts (which, at first we were not - and the correct part was actually less expensive). Also, the customer service agent gave us her name, extension, and email address of the customer if we had any issues - which we didn’t. This is the second time we’ve ordered from etrailer and I would absolutely recommend them! 688718

Still very happy with our purchase! If anyone else has this product, we’ve found that lubricating it once a month or so with graphite has fixed the seizing issue we were having. Even after not using the skewers through the winter, we had no problems this year.

Ask the Experts about this Thule Roof Bike Racks

  • Recommended Thule ThruRide Roof Bike Rack Compared to Thule Sprint XT Roof Rack
The Thule Sprint XT Roof Bike Rack - Fork Mount is actually part number 528001 that replaced part 528 which has been discontinued. There was a recall on the Sprint XT for a faulty locking mechanism on the rear strap. The updated part has also been discontinued. I recommend going with a different roof rack in the Thule ThruRide Roof Bike Rack - Thru Axle Mount - Clamp On or Channel Mounted - Aluminum # TH535. This has been tested and is a great roof rack in a similar style and price...

  • Roof Rack Bike Carrying Recommendation for 2019 Subaru Forester
For a roof rack, what you'll need will depend on what's currently on your roof. If you have the rails along the edges or the roof running from front to back, your crossbars would attach directly to those. Rhino Rack offers a crossbar system that would have much higher quality than the entry level stuff, at a more reasonable cost than the more well-known names like Yakima or Thule. To construct this rack, you'd need the # RRVA126S-2 crossbars and the # RRSX100 feet. If your Forester doesn't...

  • Will the Thule ThruRide Bike Carrier Fit the Factory Roof Rack on a 2015 Subaru Forester
If the factory crossbars are up to 3-1/8 inches wide by 1-1/8 inches tall and spaced 18 inches apart on center then the Thule ThruRide bike carrier # TH535 will fit your 2015 Subaru Forester. I have included a link to a video review of this bike carrier for you.

  • Will a Bike with 15mm Thru-Axle and 135mm Hub Spacing Fit a Thule ThruRide Bike Carrier
The Thule ThruRide bike carrier # TH535 fits bikes with 12-mm to 20-mm thru-axles or 9-mm quick-release skewers. So it will work with a 15mm through axle. But it sounds like you have a fat bike because of the 135mm wheel width. The maximum width tire that will fit in the rear cradle is 2-3/4 inches. Anything larger would have to set on top of the cradle. The axle width is not an issue. It can be 2-3/4 inches or longer but no less than 2-3/4 inches. The Swagman Enforcer # S64704 is...

  • Are Thule Fork-Mount Bike Racks Okay to Use With Carbon Forks?
Due to the fact that carbon fiber bikes have a more sensitive frame, Thule does recommend using one of two roof-mounted bike racks with a carbon fiber frame, the Thule UpRide # TH599000, which is a wheel-mounted carrier and thus will not affect your frame, or the Thule ThruRide # TH535 which secures bikes by clamping onto a 12-mm, 15-mm, or 20-mm thru-axle fork. If you were to upgrade to an aftermarket roof rack then I believe you would be able to fit two bikes and a kayak on top of your 2019 Subaru Forester but not with the factory roof rack. In order to upgrade, I recommend the Yakima JetStream Crossbar System part # Y00426, part # Y00148, and part # Y00248 which actually replaces the factory roof rack.
