Reduced rear axle sag with Timbren suspension enhancement

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above your rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the leaf spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Action of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's-side or passenger's-side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

Trailer swaying as it is towed behind a truck

Because your vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi) because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren SES

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Arrived on time. Easy upgrade. Easy installation. 06 F250 4x4

Definitely makes a big difference when pulling my fifthwheel. The rig is much more stable, even in cross winds.

Easy to install and function great. Driveability is much nicer with not so much pin weight pushing on the overload spring now.

Seem well made, because they (FR250SF on 2008 F250) use existing frame holes they are slightly offset either forward or to the rear of the spur they contact, but there is no indication in the instructions as to which is better if either. Curious what will happen when I pull my 5th wheel, I primarily bought these because the FOMOCO ones had crumbled to pieces.

I reached out to Timbren about the question that you had in your review and they advised that you should use the holes that make the kit align the rubber to the axle the best, and that one way is not better then another just that one way will fit better depending on your vehicle.

Just installed the new bump stops and so far I really like what I’m seeing. Installation took about 30 minutes after pre assembly. Make sure to read all instructions to insure a centered fit over the axel. All necessary hardware was included and I’m excited to see how my truck handles pulling my camper. Great product!!

2009 Ford F-250 Super Duty

I installed these on my 2009 F250 Super Duty 4x4. Installation was fairly easy by following the instructions that were given. I found out when pulling 11000 pound fifth wheel that I have a lot less rear spring bounce and much less roll on corners. I would recommend this to anybody that wanted better rear stability well hauling a heavy load.

2001 Ford F-250 Super Duty

I have a Timbren rear suspension system on my 1982 Chevy truck that I still own, and after 20 years they still work fine. This latest set installed easily on my 2001 F-250 and they work just as well with and without a load.

2009 Ford F-250 Super Duty

product was received on time and installed pretty easy. Haven't put load on truck as of yet but looks like they will do a good job. Would buy again

Ford F-250 Super Duty

I haven't installed them yet. is a great site with great service. After the purchase I see I could have gotten these a little cheaper on Amazon but no regrets. Will post again if I'm able after I've installed the product, lowered the truck camper on the F250 and put some road time on it.

Nice ride improvement. Easy to install once the old bump stops were off. Stabilizes the ride from side to side very nicely. Go slow on the washboard surfaces. Definitely aids in lessening the sag of my F250 with the slide-on camper loaded in the bed.

Received my shipment super fast, even after placing a duplicate orders online and calling customer service to straighten out my order. Installation was straight forward, quick and easy. Noticed a difference right away, towing or not, made my truck more stable. Thanks E-trailer for your great product lines and service.

I believe I stated installation was easy, the product has worked well and met all expectations.

Ford F-250 Super Duty

Product was purchased based on mechanics recommendation for a friends F250 being used to tow a thirty foot gooseneck 3 horse trailer with living quarters. Post installation performance was all we hoped for. Service from etrailer, before and after the sale, is what every mail order company should strive to achieve. I will not hesitate to utilize etrailer in the future. They are flagged in my favorites.

2005 Nissan Leaf

Installed these on a 2005 F-250. Went very quickly, it took longer to get the tools and jack out than it did to remove the old bumpstops and install these. I would note that the instructions specify 1/2" to 1 1/2" between the spring and the lower part of the bumpstop, and on my truck there was less than 1/4" without the spacer. I do not believe the factory springs are worn or sagging as the ride height is the same as it always has been, and the truck has only seen light use. At any rate the leaf springs are stiff enough that the Timbrens do not seem to contact the bumpstop during normal operation, so I haven't let it worry me.
As far as load carrying, I've only pulled my 5th wheel a short distance at relatively low speed, but the suspension sags much less and the truck feels considerably more stable.

Very easy to install and it work pretty good when I have weight on my truck.
Shipping was very fast,
Definitely worth it
Thank you

Installed them, and hit the road pulling my 22ft, roughly 14k trailer. The ride is more firm, but the control with the trailer is well worth it. Truck used to get very loose in the rear and sway, making me very nervous at times. Timbrens worked magic!

The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System installed fairly easy. The hardest part was removing the old bump stops, when loosened they started to spin and I had to block them up to finish removal. I can't wait to connect to my 5th wheel and see how the truck rides. As with every product I have purchased from eTrailer, delivery was quick and tracking was great.

Nissan Leaf

Huge help with rear end sag. But by leaf springs are weak so the truck sits on theses all the time, unloaded. It makes for a rougher ride. Ideally the truck should not rest on them with no load.

Great for the heavy load. Doesn’t help sway that much.

Awesome installed right after it arrived !

2010 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Works wellOn a 2010 f250 9000GVW truck trailers better.I have a ezdumper inbed so this takes about 700 off GVW.I load a lot lawn debris i went to dump and weighed in at 9700#.
Truck did not sag.Don't over load your truck, but in a pinch you can.

2007 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Install these on a 2007 Ford f250... These springs are a little worn out from being a landscape truck... Put these on to help handle the load and after two weeks there's a huge difference I would highly recommend to anyone hauling any kind of extra loads... Great price!

2005 Ford F-350 Super Duty

This is my second set and so far they have preformed as advertised. Just installed on my 2005 F350 and should take short trip next to see how they do.

Great product, keeps the rear of truck flatter during turns and prevents sagging from heavy loads. Easy install and great ride

Awesome works great. No complaints.

  • Do Timbren Suspension Enhancement Springs Give a Rough Ride When Under Load on a 2008 Ford F-250
When under load, the Timbren springs, # TFR250SDF, actually help absorb road shock rather than just transfer it to the frame where you would feel it. This also extends the life of the factory suspension components. The unloaded ride will not be affected. because this system mounts to the bottom of the frame, it will work with a 5th wheel hitch installed. I have included a link to the instructions and a link to our FAQ article on Timbren products for you.

  • Will Timbren # TFR250SDF Suspension Enhancement fit 2001 Ford F250 w/ B&W Gooseneck Hitch Installed
The frame mounting plates for the B&W Turnover Ball Gooseneck Hitch attach to the outboard sides of the truck frame, while the Timbren # TFR250SDF Aeon Springs you referenced install by replacing the factory bump stops that mount to the underside of the frame. Neither system would interfere with the other. I've provided a photo showing how the gooseneck frame mounting bracket sits in relation to the factory bump stop.

For your 2006 Ford F-250 King Ranch, we have numerous suspension enhancement products that will help with the rear vehicle sag you are experiencing. I recommend the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, # TFR250SDF, that you have referenced. These springs will not affect the unloaded ride of your truck. When loaded that will prevent sagging, provide more roll stability, and prevent the truck from bottoming out. And, they have more than enough capacity (6,000 pounds) for your trailer....

I suppose it's possible for the gap to be close between the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TFR250SDF and your 2010 Ford F-250 truck bed with a smaller cargo load in your bed but I think there are some factors to consider as well like is the load evenly distributed or is it directly over where the Timbrens sit, what is the condition of your OEM suspension (a worn out suspension won't hold up as well), and do you have anything else in your bed (like a loaded toolbox) prior to...

With the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TFR250SDF installed on your 2010 Ford F-250 Super Duty you're looking for a gap of 1/2" to 1-1/2" from the bottom of the Timbren spring to the contact point on your truck when the truck bed is empty. If the gap is less than 1/2" then you'll want to remove the spacers as they aren't required unless needed to get into that "sweet spot" I mentioned above.
