Hello neighbors and friends, Steven here with etrailer.com. Folks, today we're looking at our towing kit with ball mount and trailer wiring for your stealth hitches. Now folks, this is a custom fit application, one you're gonna need to have a stealth hitch rack receiver that's already installed on your vehicle, either part number SH 49MR or SH 99MR. And these are specifically gonna work with the 2020 through 2024 different Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS models and I wanna make sure you're checking that with our fit guide here at etrailer.com, top center of our homepage where it says Vehicle Information. Enter things such as year, make and model, cab style, bed length, those kind of things on your vehicle to ensure you're getting the right parts the first time. And once again, folks, this just completes that kit on that stealth hitch that you should already have.
This detachable ball mount will simply push up and lock into place onto that receiver attachment that's there now, you'll pull that receiver attachment off and this guy will pop right up there in the same spot. It's gonna mount securely and then attach to your car's hitch cross tube and that's gonna help eliminate any kind of rattle or play. And you get the included two inch ball here that's gonna provide a nice connection point for your trailer's ball coupler. Now this is rated up to a maximum gross trailer weight of 8,000 pounds. Now you're gonna get a nice black powder coat finish here on the heavy duty steel.
It's looking nice, it's looking good, just like your vehicle. You got the two safety chain attachment points and new locking nuts for those. You should already have the bolts on the vehicle. And you've got the zip ties, all the mounting hardware for the wiring, the wiring bracket, you got the seven way style blade connector that mounts beneath the hitch to power your trailer's taillight signals and those kind of things. And they even throw in this seven blade to four pole adapter, which securely locks in there with the knots on the lid whenever it's plugged in.
You can simply pull that up and then pull that adapter out. And if you're using the seven blade itself, you have that option as well. Now this guy does mount right inside of here with the provided hardware and this would then mount up to the bottom side of the hitch to give you a nice, sleek, clean, flush looking install. This is a little piece of a little double-sided adhesive and that's gonna stick on the back of this modulator box. And what that box is, it's gonna one, give the right input and output signals to the trailer wiring and then it's also gonna protect the vehicle from any kind of back feed that may or may not happen over the lifespan of using the trailer hooked up and that kind of stuff.
So that's really gonna protect the car as well. It's got an inline fuse here. All this wire attaches to the battery. You got all the wires that get wired up to the backside of the seven way when you're installing it. It's gonna come with a nice set of instructions as well. So just follow the instructions and the installation should more or less be a simple one. Well, folks, that will wrap it up for our look today at this towing kit with ball mount. One last thing to note. This is not to be used and not rated for weight distribution systems. It's got an amazing limited lifetime warranty through the manufacturer. I'm Steven, thanks for watching.
Not all the parts were in the box. It apparently requires additional kit that I was never made aware of before I bought it. Very unhappy.
Purchased this a year ago and am just as happy with it now as I was a year ago. Excellent quality product. The installation was challenging but clear and straight forward. etrailer did a great job with the how-to videos. I easily recommend this product to anyone.
I just finished installing the stealth hitch and the towing package (SH53GR) on my Telluride. For those who have been using the Stealth Hitch website, SH53GR is the same as Stealth Hitch part number SHT25067A, which is the right one if you aren't pre-wired for towing. Put another way, SH53GR is the right one if you didn't buy a tow package with your Telly.
The instructions (and video!) were absolutely spot on. I consider myself handy, but I don't really work on cars. I had zero trouble at any point of the installation with knowing what to do. This is really a compliment to eTrailer (who made the video) and Stealth Hitches, who I believe authored the instructions.
I did run into a few small problems while installing. First, two holes on the frame didn't quite line up by a tiny amount. Is this the hitch or my car? It's hard to know. This made it difficult to fit some bolts through. I ended up having to use a small 3 lb sledge to get them to go in. Additionally, I had some trouble getting the latch block to go into its bracket. Some heavy coercion with a rubber mallet finally got it in place. These problems weren't present in the video though, so your experience will probably be better.
My overall installation time wasn't 40 minutes, as the review suggested. It actually took me about 7 hours - about 5 for the rack receiver and 2 for the towing package. One thing made things go faster -- I bought some socket adapters for my impact driver. That probably saved me at least an hour. I probably lost an hour because I was missing a couple of sockets that I was sure I had and was trying to use a crescent wrench before I asked a neighbor.
As a side note, I'm 100% happy with the Stealth Hitch. My Telly looks unmodified and the Trailer Hitch is rock solid.
