Extend your trailer hitch receiver opening so that you can clear your spare tire when using your hitch-mounted bike rack or so that your trailer won't hit a rear-mounted propane tank when you make sharp turns. Powder coated steel resists rust.

I employed 3 receiver-hitch accessories to enhance my existing cargo platform--an 18" hitch extension, so I could drop truck tailgate, cargo bag, and anti-rattle device. All have worked very well during trips to Arizona, Colorado, etc. I used scrap wood to build a box to support the bag. I'm satisfied with the bag, it's been water- and dust-proof, and the zipper seems to be heavy duty. Anti-rattle device works well. etrailer was very helpful in defining appropriate receiver extension length and weight capacity--critical to safe usage, and very complicated to calculate. The only limitation now is that unlike some high-end bike racks that have a few inches of rise in the platform/rack, the potential for my platform to drag on uneven surfaces (drive ways, 4wd trails, etc.) is a challenge. I perceive the "problem" to be that most accessories that could provide adequate rise in the platform will also reduce weight capacity of platform. Ideas welcome! I'm also using an 8" hitch extension to allow use of tailgate while towing a small camping trailer.

You cannot use an extension and a riser at the same time, unless they are built together. The closest riser we have to the 18 inch you need is this item # MT70070
MaxxTow Dual Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 12" Long
which is 12 inches long but it gives you a 6 inch rise. You can only use the bottom opening for towing your trailer but you can use the top opening for your cargo box. All extensions will cut the weight capacity in half. In this case, the 400 tongue weight would to 200 for the cargo box. I would get a roof rack and put half of my luggage on it just so you do not run into any weight capacity issues.

I like it because it’s exactly the right length for my truck camper. I use it to pull my trailer and 4 wheelers behind my truck camper. I also use it with a rear carrier when I’m not pulling the trailer on a trip.

Product performed perfectly. I’m glad I got the extra length, but because I did, I had to also purchase longer chains- which were not expensive.

Excellent product, etrailer was very helpful in finding what I needed. The videos also helped me understand and see exactly what I was ordering. Way more helpful than the store was!

My hitch just arrived and it appears to be as the item shown.
It looks great and its what I envisioned, well made.
I see this will serve it’s intended purpose as well as all my previous purchases.
I always suggest others to purchase from etrailer.
Thank you.

Must be a manufacturing defect because the pin does not fit through the holes that have been pre-drilled, so the product is worthless. If it was usable however it does appear to be what I was looking for of extending my hitch out away from my vehicle.

Thanks for the follow up Jeff. I have noted your order and one of our customer service representatives will be contacting you soon.

I used it on my hitch for a 2011 Chev 2500 with a truck camper installed. My 20 ft enclosed trailer accepted it well and it did its job for last years hunting season. Solid and it works.

I pull a trailer behind my pickup with a slide in camper. With the camper in the bed the tailgate is down so the extension allows room for the trailer jack to work and keeps the trailer away from the truck on corners. Great product.

Should work ok. Heavy solid male end. Not hollow. Have not had a chance to check camper clearance Yet.

Has worked well for my application. Pulling 4000LB utility trailer.

Haven't use the product yet--just arrived yesterday, but it appears well built. Had to extent the hitch to clear slide-in camper overhang. Not sure why they put the plastic chrome band around the end . . . . looks good now, but don't know how long that will last. I'll probably just pull it off. Took it to a weld shop to install a plate for chain hooks and a bracket for the electrical connection. I also intend on connecting side chains to eliminate side-to-side stress at the receiver. So, we'll see how it stands up after a couple years of towing. If it stands up like I expect it to, it will get 5 start.
Incidentally, etrailer got it to me quickly and well packaged.

Hitch extender was just what I needed. This was used so that I could pull a small camper with my tailgate down . Without the extender my tailgate would come down and hit the top of my trailer wheel crank. Now it clears easily. It's great quality and very heavy. Nothing you will ever break or where out. Excellent product.

I'm very happy with this hitch extension and the service provided. I would continue to do business with you all for my product needs. Thank you very much.

Fred W - 03/22/2018

I had to round the edges on the male end to fit into ANY 2" receiver.....even another Reese receiver adapter. Other than that, it's just an extension and does what it's supposed to do.

Item arrived damaged. Loosely floating around in the box. Paint is rubbed dull. It will still work but poor shipping packaging.

Hi Robert, Thanks for your feedback! Our customer service team will be reaching out to you.

I needed to extend the short tongue on my trailer to allow clearance on tight turns between my spare tire and the two kayaks on the trailer. The product was a simple solution, quite well-made and worked like a charm.

Heavy duty, perfect way to extend beyond the Slide in camper. Don't settle for a cheap product.

Well one problem I have is keeping the nuts tight. Even with a breaker bar and 2 jam nuts they tend to come lose and the hitch extension has some play.
Gary D - 08/31/2018

Enables me to have my travel trailer attached and my tailgate down with dirt bikes in it. Super solid.

Very sturdy product, installed on 2017 John Deere gator 825i. The gator receiver is right at the rear axles. This product allowed me to move point of hookup all the way out to the bumper. Now everything can be hooked up without crawling underneath machine.

Arrived on time and was exactly what I was looking for.

Been a long time customer and has been very pleased with the quality of your product's and the very friendly and helpful staff. Thanks !

Very heavy duty extension , exactly what I needed for hauling my boat .

Works very good !

etrailer once again has given me good advice on my needs and delivered an excellent product. I will come again and again to them for all my needs

Helps out when you need that extra space to extend out your hitch.

Fred C - 07/19/2020

Product arrived very quickly . A pleasant surprise that it arrived earlier than expected. Well packaged and arrived safely. Exactly as specified. Fit up well and will be tested this weekend during a boy scout camp out. Will certainly use etrailer again.

Will work very well to pull my trailers with my Hummer H2,because the spare is in the way. Didn't think it would look this good. Thanks for a great product.

  • How To Determine if Reese Hitch Extender RP11004 Would have Enough Weight Capacity for Towing
The hitch extender part # RP11004 is 18 inches long and has a 4,000 lb trailer weight capacity. As long as your trailer weighs less than that the extender will work just fine. But you also need to determine the weight capacity of your trailer hitch like I mentioned and then determine that 35 percent of that would be still above the capacity of the extender. That being said the limiting factor is the capacity of your hitch. Using this extension will reduce your hitch's weight capacity by...

  • Can Hitch Extender be Used to Help Get Boat Trailer Further into Water to Launch It
Depending on how the angle of the ramp changes a super long extension may not be a great idea as it would either point the nose of the trailer up super high or down to low. The longest extension we have for a 2 inch hitch is 18 inches and it would be part # RP11004 that you referenced. Using a hitch extender cuts the tongue weight capacity of the hitch it is used on in half.

  • Could Reese Hitch Extender # RP11004 Be Used On 2003 Ford F-250
You didn't mention how long of an extension you need, but the part # RP11004 will give you 18 inches of extension which sometimes is enough to allow you to tow a trailer with a camper but that depends on the dimensions of the camper. You should note that using this will cut the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. If you towing capacity is over double the weight of your trailer you'd be good.

  • Can Reese 18 inch Hitch Extension RP11004 Flat Tow a Vehicle Heavier than 4,000 lb
You are going to be fine using the part # RP11004 because you are flat towing a vehicle which doesn't have the same type of stress on a hitch like trailer does since there isn't tongue weight. This has a higher capacity when used with a weight distribution system which a WD system lowers the effective tongue weight on the hitch by distributing some of it to the front axle. It has no effect on total trailer weight. So since reducing tongue weight allows the # RP11004 a higher total trailer...

Yes, the Reese Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches # RP11004 is rated for use with a Weight Distribution (WD) system. The maximum Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) is 4,000 lbs and the maximum Tongue Weight (TW) is 400 lbs, but when you are using a WD system the GTW is bumped up to 6,500 lbs and the TW increases to 650 lbs. You will want to be sure to stay within the weight limits of your trailer hitch receiver and tow vehicle as well. Also keep in mind that this extender will reduce the capacity...

The Reese Hitch Extender # RP11004 that you referenced really just moves the location of your receiver back 18". You install your Weight Distribution (WD) system the same exact way, it will just sit further back from your vehicle. This extender is rated for 4,000 lbs Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) and 400 lbs Tongue Weight (TW). When used with a WD system those capacities are increased to 6,500 lbs GTW and 650 lbs TW. The Reese Hitch Extender for 2 inch Trailer Hitches # RP11004 can be used to tow a boat trailer behind your truck-pulled camper. There are a few things that you will want to keep in mind though. Even though you can pull a boat trailer behind a bumper trailer it is illegal is many states. I wouldn't recommend the use of a hitch extender with a motorcycle carrier under normal circumstances as that adds quite a bit of leverage and torque on the hitch it's installed in.
