We bought this to install in our greenhouse to fill with water and store heat gained in the day to mitigate the drop in temperature overnight.
The size is perfect to lay on the floor under the plat shelf

I ordered 5... 2 leaked... so far. The solvent welds on the ends of the tanks are bad. Run as far away from these tanks as you can. They have caused massive delays in my project and increased costs from cleanup and replacing parts. I was so tempted to just walk away from these things entirely they are that bad, but it would have put me even further behind than these tanks already have.
This is an unbelievably bad product. Avoid it at all costs.

- Location of Fill Fittings on Valterra RV Water Tank # R8072The Valterra RV Water Tank # R8072 referenced in your question can really be mounted in any position. As you mentioned, there are three 3/8 inch fittings on each end. These fittings are indeed in the same position on both sides, but because ADS tanks are solvent weldable, fill fittings can be added anywhere on the tank.
