The bag is NOT waterproof…just be aware.
I’ve purchased several items from etrailer.com and have always been pleased (Thule Rooftop Carrier, hitch pins, anti-rattle device). Plus, the customer service is top notch. This set however was below expectations. We took this on one trip up the East Coast (3 days up, 3 days back).
- The actual Cargo Carrier with Sidewalls is great. Sturdy and solid. - The bag is absolutely NOT waterproof. It reads in the description “cargo bag keeps firewood, luggage, and other gear contained, secure, and DRY.” After driving through a few hours of rain, our luggage was soaked. I had the bag properly secured to the sidewalls, zipped and the zipper cover folded over properly. It did not keep out the rain. That night I put our luggage in the car to keep it from getting wetter while inside the hotel and left the empty bag properly zipped in the carrier. It rained and the next morning the bag had water pooled in the bottom. - Also, the Carrier Lid is already showing 3 areas of rust after 6 total days on the road.1099326
One of our best purchases for our car. Much easier to deal with than the car top carrier. Has helped make lots of extra space inside the car for long road trips. We've used this thing for over 10k miles already and it looks & works great. The bag help protect from rain, dust & dirt.1297395

Box to completed install: 14 minutes. We tavel a lot and the extra space will be great. Tailgate on the 2010 BMW XDrive 35D clears no problem. Hitch came from etrailer done at a previous install. 484522
I liked the fact that I felt the items would be secure while I was traveling in my class B RV. But the cost was exorbitant in my opinion. A fellow traveler had created basically the same principle by using a large dog kennel on top of a regular trailer platform for less than $200. So the three stars is basically due to the cost issue. It was well-made and the staff were very kind and nice to deal with.1208573

Just what I need to carry those two extra suitcases and couple of bags. Easy for one person to assemble and install. I would recommend this for anyone with a ford Escape if traveling with 3 or 4 people. 160124
We really like our hitch carrier; have not used it with the "liner" but with just the cage. Great for hauling firewood, small grill, charcoal, etc. that we wouldn't want to take in our motor-home. When parked for camping just throw a tarp over the top of it to keep things dry. Also easily lockable.783057

We still like it a lot, use it every time we go out with our RV

I really wanted to love this, but it didn't fit my car properly and it caused us a real headache on our road trip. The unit road too low to the ground and scraped the floor when we went over bumps and dips. Much worse was that, it sat right in front of the exhaust pipe, which we didn't realize until halfway through our trip, when a bottle of detergent leaked, turned corrosive from the heat, and literally melted through the bag and damaged much of the items we had in the crate. We had to throw out the bag and most of our things. I'm hoping buying an extender to lift it up higher away from the floor and exhaust will work, but I'm hesitant to spend any more money, since this was supposed to have everything it needed for my type of car. I'm also bummed that the bag was ruined, so now anything we try to store will be exposed to the elements. 529950

As with any hitch mounted accessory, youll want to make sure theres at least 12 inches between the exhaust and any hitch mounted accessory. An extender/rise adapter is a good solution, but an extender/adapter will move the load of the carrier and whats carried upon it further away from the hitch which will lower the hitch tongue weight capacity maximum amount of weight that can be safely carried on the hitch by half. Having an extra component installed between the hitch and carrier can also allow more movement of the hitch accessory.

I called up and spoke with Nicole, she told me it was very important to get the right size of the tail gate. I called back the next day to order the cargo carrier. Nicole Suggested the package with the water-proof bag and locking top. It was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to use the cargo carrier before I wrote this review. Last week I took my family on a trip and the cargo carrier worked perfectly, it gave us all the extra room in the car we needed. I have already told someone else about etrailer and great they were. Thank you very much. Dave D. Boston, MA.45396

We have been very happy with this product. It carried our 20 gal propane tank, along with other camping gear, on a 6000 mile round trip to Michigan this summer in our Honda Pilot. Our favorite use is on the back of our motor home. I can put fish, bait and other stinky things outside, much to my wife's relief!
The only minor problem we have had was the lid not fitting exactly. But we have been able to work that out.287140

We love our Carpod with the waterproof bag. Worked excellent on our trip to the beach. It fit great on our Volvo XC90!!!! It held all our beach chairs, toys, and so much more. Really recommend the carpod if you need extra room like us. It holds a lot and it is easy to stick on the car. No problems here. Just add locks and your good!!! 523314

Masterlock padlocks part #141T will lock the carpod to deter theft.
Iam rating it as such because I have only tested it without any cargo on a 30 min drive. It was ok considering the help of the anti-rattle and anti-tilt that I also used. The real test really will be putting some cargo in it.I noticed that there was a lock nut or washer missing at the base which made one of the bolts loose;likewise there was only place to put a lock( do not know why the locks came in pairs?)Overall,I think this will work for me.As for the anti-tilt that I purchased, I noticed that the 2 bolts on the side really are only barely touching the bar,I think the holes were not properly placed ,so when you tighten them, they will only tighten the edge of the bar.The shipping was super fast! It felt like it just came a few miles from my house, however I noticed that the packaging was messed up and torn so it was just taped up;it really looked like it was an old stock from the warehouse.
The customer service was awesome and will probably order from this site again.Thanks!45614

Yes, I like the carrier. I would buy it again. the only little problem I had was around the corners it had some water seepage. I sprayed it good with some waterproof sealer it worked good after that.275147

Best cargo basket ever! The liner bag does not leak!

The carrier is excellent. It is somewhat more lite-weight than I anticipated, but it has not sagged or become deformed in any fashion, so it obviously does what it was designed for. Regarding the bag; I have never been able to adequately waterproof it regardless of how much Scotch Guard I apply. With that said, I would still purchase it again because it is durable and does keep dust and dirt away from the items stored.649132

We used it on two trips since purchasing it. On both trips is worked flawlessly. This was the best investment we have made for this type item. We looked at numerous units before choosing this one, but none came close to providing what this unit does (for the price).
Thanks for making our vacations less stressful.

Review from a similar Walled Cargo Carrier in Hitch Cargo Carrier
I bought 23x27 CARPOD walled cargo carrier w/lid (M2205-2201) on 3/30/22, received 4/8/22, it is now 9/6/22. I bought it with cargo bag (items #CS34FR), which I have used two. I have used the cargo bag twice, not worth it for me, cargo bag takes too much space. Instead I wrap items in a tarp. Pretty sure you can figure it out how to make items “water resistant” with tarp, after all the Cargo Bag is also “water resistant”.
I also bought the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 3-1/2" Span (Item #63232), work great with carpod, it doesn’t rattle.
As for the Carpod itself, I love it. I use it about 4 times a month. The clearance is good, I have only hit ground once and that was because that specific exit driveway had a deep swale to it. As shown in picture, I use Carpod on Lexus 2020 RX350L, the rear hatch door clears fine on opening and closing. The only complain is when I go reverse, the rearview camera is blocked AND I have to disable the vehicles rear collision warning system.1394934
Review from a similar Walled Cargo Carrier in Hitch Cargo Carrier
I purchased this for a 800-mile round trip vacation to Mammoth Lakes. It greatly extended the amount of luggage and gear we could bring with us, as we head 4 adults and a dog in the car. I could hardly tell the cargo carrier was back there while driving, and it didn't impact my gas mileage at all. I assembled and installed this myself, and it was super easy (although would be easier with a second set of hands.) I also purchased a stretchy net cargo cover, which allowed us to pack above the the actual height of the carrier itself. I attached my license plate to the cargo carrier work zip ties, although I will need to get a bracket with lights for the future of doing nighttime driving. I have no regrets on this purchase and highly recommend!855762
Have used this on many trips now with zero issues! Just purchased a Yakima Backswing hitch and the cargo carrier works great with it!

Review from a similar Walled Cargo Carrier in Hitch Cargo Carrier
Very Good product that fit our needs well for extra carrying space for 5 day road trip with 5 people in Subaru Outback. Wanted something in addition to our cartop carrier that we could lock up gear in as we left car parked for several hours as we explored the coast and Redwoods. Stored a 52 qt cooler, Coleman collapsible 2-burner propane stove, milk crate, similarly sized-plastic bin of odds and ends, 3 camp chairs, large sun shade, blue tarp. All fit with bag closed and top on (used 3 same keyed locks with long U shackles (think 2 inch). Worked great and could barely see it in rearview mirror (had to really look for it) and could not hear it when travelling ( Did use antirattle plate, and hitch lock) . With gear did not feel it alter driving feel at all. Fit 2 inch hitch well and allowed rear gate to open with a couple millimeters clearance to spare (Fantastic! didn't think we would be able to open gate). Fitted with lights, harness was easy and I opted to attach all with twist ties. Quickly made lic plate holder out of sheet metal and used a battery powered light to illuminate plate to stay legal at night. Added some reflective tape all around. Set up worked great and without any problems. No problem travelling with in either up (folded up, no gear) or down (gear stowed and top locked on) position. While at campsites used as counter top for light items and place to spread out wet towels. No problem with CarPod bag but did not have any real precip to test, kept dusty roads out though. The corner ties on bag are a bit short but no big deal. Thought I might build a frame to add rigidity but wasn’t really necessary for us. Overall good item.1298951
Review from a similar Walled Cargo Carrier in Hitch Cargo Carrier
After purchasing a 2018 Honda CR-V Touring, my honey-to-do-task of having to bring trash to the dump every week must be done. I am not a big fan of placing trash inside my new car, despite having a rubber liner. So I purchased the Curt 2 inch receiver hitch and had it installed by my local mechanic. I did not want to have to hook up my small utility trailer to go to the dump since I have to go to work and park in a parking garage after making my trash drop off. I came across this Carpod M2205 walled carrier. I am thrilled with this and like the way it folds up when not in use. There was a simple assembly process to go through after it was received (quick shipping by the way). It is a little heavy placing into the hitch receiver, but note it is easier to place it into the hitch when folded up. I wrapped a piece of duct tape around the exact place of the insertion bar to line up the holes of the hitch pin. Its carrying capacity is well within what I need, and I am quite impressed. There is not much movement of the carrier while driving except for big bumps or potholes. This is an excellent alternative to carrying household garbage inside my new car. The walls are held in place with metal pins and a strap, that is a little short and could be a little bit longer. That would be my only complaint about using this car carrier. Otherwise, I highly recommend this for anyone who needs to carry items outside or to need more space. 593338
On the Carpod cargo carrier # M2200-01-02 the sides hold together with pins like in the video I have linked shows. The top part is held to the sides with little clips. I have included a picture that shows the clips a little closer. view full answer...
The bag that is inside the Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier, # M2200-01-02, is weather-resistant but is not considered water proof. For something to be considered water proof it has to be submerged under water for a certain period of time and the inside and contents must stay dry. For general rainy conditions the bag will do well to help keep items inside dry but we still recommend placing items that cannot get wet in plastic bags. view full answer...
There are a couple of things to look at on your 2017 Jeep Renegade to determine if the 24x48-3/4 Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier # M2200-01-02 will fit. First, this carrier requires a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver opening. And second the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole on the vehicle back to clear the rear bumper will need to be less than 4 inches.

On the Carpod cargo carrier # M2200-01-02 it measures 4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the carrier. This means that on your 2015 Ford F-250 the measurement from the center of the front mount hitch pin hole out to clear the front of the truck must be less than 4 inches. If it is then you can use the carrier.
However please note that carrying something in the front of the vehicle will reduce driver visibility, can potentially block the front lights, and... view full answer...
The overall dimensions of the Carpod Walled Cargo carrier # M2200-01-02 are 48-3/4" long x 24" wide x 22" tall. I've attached a picture to visualize these measurements for your reference. I can't say how many golf bags are going to fit in this carrier, since that's going to depend on the total length of the bags with the clubs, as well as the type of golf bags. The Carpod Hitch Cargo Carrier, part # M2200-01-02, may fit the hitch on your 2013 Lexus GX 460, but there are a couple of things you may want to consider.
The first thing you will want to know is if the carrier will clear the rear bumper of your GX 460. I have a solution for you, but the Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier # M2200-01-02 does not extend far enough out from the trailer hitch to fit well on your 2011 Buick Enclave. The trailer hitches we've installed on the Enclave required 5 inches of distance between the center of the hitch pin hole and the closest part of the carrier in order to clear the bumper. The # M2200-01-02 offers only 4 inches, meaning it would not work on your vehicle.

Some of the Carpod cargo carriers do sit very close to the end of the hitch receiver. To be sure that the cargo carrier will clear your 2012 Infiniti QX56's bumper, you will want to take a quick measurement on your vehicle. Using a yard stick or dowel rod held at the rear-most point of the bumper, you will want to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on the trailer hitch receiver to the dowel rod. This will let you know how many inches are needed for the carrier to clear the back... view full answer...
The big difference between the two Carpod carriers part # M2200-01-02 and the # M2205-01-02 is that the # M2205-01-02 comes with a tilting shank which allows it to fold up when not in use. Of course the carrier would also have to have it's walls folded down as well. view full answer...
