Video Transcript for Custer E-Z Mount Tow Light Kit Review

Today we're going to review part number EZT20B; this is the E-Z Mount Tow Light Kit. We'll go ahead and quickly cover the components. You get two lights. This is your right side, left side light, twenty foot of wire that comes out to a 4-pole connector, and also an additional 4-pole connector in case you need to wire rescue a 00:23 towing vehicle. How these lights hook up. They have these flaps right here; they're designed to be trapped by the hatch on the vehicle being towed. Your hatch closes in on this and your light stays outside, and it's secured.

The twenty foot of wire gets ran across the top of the vehicle or alongside, whatever personal preference it is, to help secure it as you're going down the road. All right. Let's go ahead and try this out on a typical application. We're going to start off by opening up the back hatch. We're taking our cord.. We're going to run it through the top.

We'll go ahead and run our cord out through the top of the hatch then pull up our slack. Once we have it pulled through we'll go ahead and shut the hatch on it. The door 01:28 feels thick enough where the wire won't hurt anything when you shut the hatch on it. Don't want 01:33 to worry about that. Make sure to slacken our wire 'til our light comes down to the bumper. In a different vehicle this can be in different locations too; so this could be higher up, or maybe you may 01:46 even put these lights up on top up here.

These particular vehicle won't allow us to do it, but we can still do it down at the bottom. Once we put it in place on the bumper the edge of the lid will catch this part right here and hold it in place. Now it's definitely a good idea to get a next set 02:00 of hands to help hold the lights while you shut the hatch on it. Possibly, the cord in-between, you can keep it on the inside. Then we'll 02:18 just slowly close the hatch on our lights and our wires. Okay We all ready 02:30 have our 02:31 lights installed.

We can go ahead and continue on running our cord towards our RV. There's a variety of ways you can run this towards the front. If it had a roof rack you could probably attach this it to the roof rack somehow, loosely; or maybe with some zip ties. What I've also seen done is people just simply open up the door and allow part of it to go inside. Door's sealed. Will still protect the wires as you close it. Then it may be a good idea to run it underneath the hood as well. All right. Then this will get simply ran down to a typical location 03:25 in the front of your vehicle. Then your cord from your RV will come out to your 4-pole. Okay, let's go ahead and try it out. First, we'll go ahead and do our running light circuit. And see 03:40 both of them are working. Okay. Then we'll do our right turn signal. And we'll do our left turn signal. Now a break signal is typically the same thing as a turn signal, except it just stays on in a combined circuit. With that. That'll finish it for our demo of part number EZT20B from Custer, the E-Z Mount Tow Light Kit. .

These work fine and fit nicely under the trunk lid. However, they are wired incorrectly. The picture shows the light on the left having the wires come out of the right and the light on the right with the wires coming out of the left. If you install them this way, they are reversed! I have checked extremely carefully and my outlets are wired correctly. If you look at the picture, you can see that the wiring coloring is incorrect (the standard is yellow is left, green is right). It is no big deal to cut and fix the wires, but the buyer should know. 569121

Perfect for my 2015 Jeep Wrangler as I prefer not to invade the electrical system and the magnetic base would not work with the plastic cover over the steel bumpers. As always shipping was fast. 168209

I open the tailgate to first hang the passenger side light then close the tailgate which serves to lock the passenger light in place and allow enough of an opening to hang the driver side light and quickly close the tailgate. You will be able to move the lights to fine tune their positions. You will also want to route the cable from the door to under the hood to avoid scratches to the hood. The reason for going with this light set was that they were non-invasive no splicing. Since then Hopkins has introduced a tail light wiring kit code HM56200 which also is not invasive where you initially install the kit and you are done when you are ready to go all you do is connect your cable from your motorhome to your Jeep while you use the Jeeps rear lights both tail, brake, and turn signals. Etrailer part number HM56200 for the 2015 JK Wrangler.

SMI Stay in Play Duo installation in 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited – Packaging was great with everything needed included plus extra items for various installation methods of you’re choosing. Upon initial investigation and survey, everything except the CD Information pack was accounted for. No big deal, as I had previously watched 2 different Youtube installations found on the internet. In fact, the internet videos were what I used as my step by step installation process, and the written instructions were only used for concerns where the video may not have been as clear as I had hoped for. Understanding that everyone has their own style and methods for doing this project, I purposely was not in a hurry to rush through it. All in all, I took @ 8 hours to install the Adapter 4 to 6 pole #30637, the EZMount Tow lights Kit, and the Stay in Play Duo Braking System. I choose the EZMount because I didn’t want to mess around with the OEM taillights and wiring. Magnetic lights don’t work so well on composite tops and I didn’t want to stick them to the sides of te Jeep, so I modified the EZ mount to wrap around the thickness of the rear glass hatch on both sides. I added a 2”x 4” pc of Velcro on the inside of the glass hatch and the mating surface of the plastic light housing - to hold the lamps in place until the rear gate was closed. I ran the wire harness on the inside under the trim all the way up to the front and through the grommet in the firewall. The flat 4 wire was routed and secured up to the Adapter 4 pole to 6 pole that I had fastened to the Blue Ox base plate. The actual installation of the SMI unit and assorted parts went rather smoothly. Most difficult issue was the lack of working space in front of the driver’s seat area. Installing the screw that holds the G force controller on the front (the side towards the front of the car) was difficult as it was almost a blind installation due to lack of room. The nut and fender washer used through the fire wall for attaching the air cylinder cable bracket was a challenge to reach - tight fit with not much room for one's hand and arm. Other than that, no big surprises – just a lot of tedious steps to do when you want to be sure that it is being installed properly – take your time and don’t be in a hurry. Once everything was installed – it all worked when I checked the system out. The only thing that may seem a bit odd is that when setting the G force initially, the compressor will shut off while adjusting per instructions. To do this initial adjustment, the wife stepped on the brake in the Motorhome, with the switch “On”. The compressor starts, and the brake is pushed down by the Air Cylinder, at which time I slowly adjusted the G force until the compressor shuts off. I secured the adjusting bolt and I told the wife to take her foot off the brake and then re-apply them. The compressor did not start again and the air cylinder did not apply the brakes in the Jeep. After setting the G force per instructions, the unit didn't turn on when the brakes in the Motorhome were applied - but since we were not moving - all I can assume is that the brake system will function while slowing down once the accelerometer setting (the sensitivity setting on the G force box) has been met. I assume that the sensitivity setting method includes a way to ensure the Jeep brakes are not engaged too frequently and only until needed. This is the only step that is a tad bit confusing without an explanation as to what to expect once the G force sensitivity is set. Lastly, I checked the brake away switch and it turned the compressor on and applied the brakes as expected. Overall - the installation went rather smoothly. Can't wait to see how the product works once we hit the road. I'll check back and provide an update later. 446685

2014 Jeep Commander

Finally got around to installing Demco base plate kit on my 2014 Chevy Spark. Took me a couple of hours to install. I'm sure a younger person could have installed it quicker, but I am bumping 80 and take my time. The instructions were very clear and thorough and parts call out was detailed very nicely. I liked the Demco base plate attach points being low and not blocking air flow to eng. and also, with the covers on the attach points they look like part of the grill. I bought the Demco Commander tow bar and E-Z Mount Tow Light Kit to go with it. I did not want to connect into my Spark electrical system, so the light kit made it a simple installation. The tow bar is a breeze to hook up to the car and RV. It tows like there is nothing behind the RV. I am towing with a Thor Vegas 24.1 I would recommend watching the helpful videos that are available which will make things go smoothly. Another bonus to this tow rig was the price from etrailer which was less than half of what some of my RV buddies paid for a tow setup. Great product, fast delivery and super good prices. I highly recommend it. Wish I had taken some pics, but did not think of it at the time. Besides the tow hookup looks more or less like most.........except better. 635685
