Video Transcript for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution EQ90-02-4400 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank, this is designed for use with Equal-i-zer weight distribution systems, you can use it in either the drop or rise positions. This would be known as the rise, flip it over where this is pointing down and that would be known as the drop position. It's going to feature a 6 hole design so it's going to allow for plenty of adjustment when it comes to your weight distribution head. It's going to be constructed of a sturdy high grade steel, so that's solid steel, really nice design, we have really nice consistent welds here for the bracing and just overall it's a nice, solid durable unit. It does feature a dipped finish, so it does provide protection from rust and corrosion and the product's made right here in the USA. This is designed to slide into a 2" x 2" trailer hitch receiver, the pinhole diameter fr your hitch pin and clip or your hitch locks is going to be around 5/8", it'll accept a standard 5/8" diameter pin. The gross trailer weight capacity for this weight distribution shank is 14,000lbs. Tongue weight rating is from 600lbs with a max capacity of 1,400lbs. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. We're going to take a measurement of the overall shank length. Measuring from the very back to the very front, that's going to give us a shank length of 12".

The front portion, from bottom to top. I'm just going to go ahead and turn that so you can see it a little bit better, that's going to give us an overall measurement of 14". The distance that we have between the adjustment holes on center is going to be 1-1/4", that's going to be the same for all 6. Taking a measurement from the center of the hitch pinhole to the back of the upright bar it's going to measure 7". To the center of the adjustment holes to the center of the hitch pinhole it's going to be 8".

To the front of the unit to the center of the hitch pinholes is going to be 9". 9", 8" and 7". If you're using this in the rise position, it's going to offer a maximum rise of 13". If you have your head assembly at the lowest setting with this in the drop position it's going to offer a maximum drop of 9". It can adjust in increments of 1-1/4" since that's going to be our adjustment hole separation. That's going to do it for today's look at the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank.

My order (107131659) arrived, but after test-fitting the extended shank onto my vehicle, I only have 6" of clearance on level ground. This will definitely not suffice, given the slope of my driveway. I'm hoping to get some help. What I'm ultimately trying to do is get my tow vehicle & camper trailer's Equal-i-zer hitch set up correct so that the trailer couple and the vehicle hitch ball are relatively level with one another before the hitch is connected (as per Equal-i-zer's instructions). Unfortunately, this requires that I either lower the hitch (which, as I found, results in too low of clearance at the shank), or raise the trailer. Do you have any suggestions? What about an "axle swap," where the under-slung springs are moved to the top of the trailer's axles? Thank you for your assistance and any recommendations you may have. 575939

Comments
Depending on the diameter of your axle tube, it might be possible to swap the leaf springs from the underside to the top of the axle. This will gain you about the diameter of the axle as a gain in height. For a 2-38 inch diameter axle, use part K71-384-00 or for a 3 inch diameter axle, use K71-385-00.

Not much to you can say about a shank. However, the service was great. I had ordered a different (to short) shank from Amazon and it took a week to arrive and wasn't packed or wrapped with anything. The paint was chipped and the edges banged up so much it wouldn't go into the receiver with out filling the edges. etrailer had it delivered in 2 days and the custom packing was so so good I didn't think the box UPS deliver was the shank. Great job etrailer! You'll be the first place I now look for accessories for my truck and trailer. 223907

Quick shipping. Product as described. The box was partially ripped open, but its a huge chunk of steel in a cardboard box, no big deal. Went from a 1/2 ton Chevy to a 1 ton Ford, needless to say I needed a longer shank. It looks great, very happy. 381408

  • Weight Distribution Shank to Adjust for Taller Height of 2019 Ford Pickup
Ford trucks are getting taller and this can sometimes cause towing complications. The good news is that weight distribution shanks are standardized for hole size and hole spacing. This allows them to be interchangeable between brands. Since you have a reducer sleeve in your 2-1/2-inch hitch you will have that many more to choose from since you can use either a 2-inch shank with the reducer or a 2-1/2-inch shank by itself. All of the WD shanks we offer appear on the page I linked...

Weight distribution shanks for your system can be interchangeable so you can use a different brand. I personally would go with the similar Curt # C17124 which is rated higher and at a good price point. If you have a specific drop...

  • How to Find the Correct Drop When Using Weight Distribution System
What you need is a shank that will offer you the right amount of drop and to know what you need you are going to have to take a couple measurements. Next, measure from the ground to the bottom of your trailer's coupler and find the difference between the two measurements, which is the amount...

If you are looking for a WDS that is compatible with a 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver, you have a number of options.
