Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Video Transcript for etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Inststallation - 2019 Kia Sorento

Today on our 2019 Kia Sorento we're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the etrailer.com custom fit Class 3 trailer hitch receiver. This offers the matte black finish and a 2" by 2" receiver tube opening. Now here's what your hitch is going to look like installed. As you can see, you're going to have a tube that comes across here to your receiver tube opening and a shorter tube on this side. This helps it to go up and over our exhaust so we don't have any interference issues. This is a Class 3 hitch, gives us a 2" by 2" receiver tube opening. It's an extremely versatile hitch.

Just about any type of hitch accessory that they make is likely to come in a Class 3 variety. You're going to secure those in place using this 5/8 diameter pin hole you can see here on the side. That passes all the way through. There's a good amount of room around there. Whether you're just going to use a standard pin and clip or you want to upgrade to a locking hitch pin or anti-rattle device, should have plenty of room to get that in place.Safety chain connection points, you can see they're plate style.

Nice large opening here. Should get any type chain connected that we really want. The biggest difference you're going to see with the etrailer hitch versus other hitches available for the Sorento is going to be in the finish itself. As you can see, we've used an upgraded finish on our hitch. It provides it with more of a matte texture.

It blends in really nicely with the back of the vehicle, with the trim panel back here. With other hitches, you're going to see a higher gloss finish. Sometimes those can stand out. We've also found that this finish is more resilient to the scratches and dings that we often see on hitches. Now as far as weight ratings are concerned, the hitch is going to give us a 750 pound tongue weight rating. That's the maximum downward force we can put at our receiver tube opening.

We have a 5,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. That's going to be the total weight of our trailer and anything that we load up on it. The Kia, though, you do want to check the owner's manual on it to see what its tow rating is and be sure not to exceed that. Also, unlike the CURT hitch, with the etrailer hitch we don't have to use a stabilization strap. Now a couple measurements you'll find helpful when it comes time to select ball mounts, bike racks, and hitch cargo carriers will be from the ground to the inside top edge of our receiver tube opening we've got about 13". Then from the center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our bumper it's about 4-1/2". With that inside top edge of the receiver tube opening being at 13", I think it would be a good idea to choose items with a raise in the shank just to give you better ground clearance. Now to begin the install side, you need to get your spare tire lowered down, we're just going to remove ours completely. We'll put it back up after we have our hitch in place. We're going to use either our tools in the trunk here, or we can use a 21mm socket. It's a little quicker if we use a socket. We also want a flat blade screwdriver. We'll open up this back hatch area. Right down here you want to remove this cap. That will give us access to the nut. We need to loosen that up and allow our spare tire to be lowered down. The next step we need to take care of is getting our cover lowered. There's a little panel here. We've got three push pin fasteners, one, two, and three. We want to remove those. We'll use a flat blade screwdriver. Then we'll use a 14mm socket with an extension. You can see this pocket here and the one here. Got two nuts up there we want to loosen up. We'll pull that down and set it aside for now.The next step we need to do is get our exhaust lowered down. Now there's going to be three hangers. We've one located right here at the back. There's going to be one caddy corner from that tucked up in here just beside your rear passenger side wheel. Then if we come back towards the center of the vehicle, follow our exhaust pipe forward, we'll find another one right here. Now I like to use a little bit of spray lubricant on these just to make everything come apart a little bit easier. Then you can use a big screwdriver or a pry bar, just come in from the back, apply pressure, and you can get them to pop off there. Now on each side you're going to have a rubber plug in the frame rail. We want to pull that out. We're not going to reuse them, so we can return them to our customer or just hang on to them. Now with the help of an extra set of hands, we're going to get our hitch lifted up and into position. We're going to be using the M10 bolts. Got a conical tooth washer on those. You want those teeth to be facing up. We're going to align the holes in the bottom side of our hitch with those holes in the bottom of the frame rail. You can see our bolt's going to go through there. We want to get that threaded into that hole right above it. Once you get four or five good turns on it, you can let it rest there and it'll allow us to get our other one started. Now on the driver side we just have one to get put in place. That's going to go in this rearmost hole only. Now on the driver side we want to use our 1/2" carriage bolts. Those are going to go through the side plates of our hitch, and they come out on the inside of our frame rail there just like that. On the other side, we're going to go from the inside out with our 7/16" carriage bolts. Now on each one of those carriage bolts we want to place an appropriately sized flange nut, 7/16 on the passenger, 1/2" on the driver. Now we'll run through and snug everything down. For our 1/2" flange nuts we want to use a 19mm or a 3/4. For our smaller M10s here, we're going to use a 17. On those 7/16" carriage bolts you'll want an 11/16. Now we want to go through and torque down each of our fasteners to the specifications listed in the instructions. Now with everything torqued down, our hitch is installed, we're going to replace our panel here. For these nuts on top, we had to loosen them up with a socket, but when we go back in, we can just push them up into place. Then we can put our push pin fasteners back in. Now we'll get that exhaust put back up. Now doing this, we should be able to just do it by hand. You can always use a little bit more spray lubricant if you need to. But we took three off so we want to get three put back on. Now we'll put our spare tire back in, and our hitch is going to be ready for use. That'll complete our installation of the etrailer.com custom fit Class 3 trailer hitch receiver on our 2019 Kia Sorento.

This is a great hitch, however I encountered some problems when installing it. The driver side bolts easily, but the passenger side did not line up initially. Only after I tightened the bolts on the driver side did it force the hitch over enough to secure the passenger side bolts. I would have saved a lot of time had I known this in advance. The rest of the installation went smoothly. My vehicle is a 2019 Kia Sorento LX V6. 737954

Priced all around my area to have receiver mounted on my vehicle. It was almost scary the prices I got. I finally decided to try and find a receiver and DIY. Purchased mount from etrailer.com and viewed a video on internet on how to mount to my particular vehicle. I think I paid less than $250. Not really sure but I do know i saved over $400 doing it myself. I'm 68 yrs. old and with the assistance of my 67 year old wife less than 2 hrs. later part was installed. Ordered for my vehicle and it fit perfect. Thanks etrailer.com 535620

Hitch has worked with out any issues. Purchased a new travel trailer using a WDS. Also purchased Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional. Installed it and works great. If your tired of looking on line for towing accessories just go to etrailer. They haven’t let me down.

The hitch I purchased went on as easy as the instructions show that it would. It took me 1 1/2 ours including the wiring and mounting the plug on the hitch. It is a very clean installation and saved me a lot of money doing it myself. 535698

I installed a curt hitch and wiring harness on my 2016 kia sorento, it took about an hour for me and my son to install them. The curt hitch is very well built, i was actually surprised at the good quality. The instructional videos were very helpful. The etrailer customer service is second to none. The whole experience from shopping to purchase, to installation was really easy. The kia dealership wanted $600.00 to install a hitch, with etrailer i did it for less than $200.00. I would definitely recommended etrailer to a friend. 668903

The hitch for my 2018 Kia Sorrento arrived on time and it was better than expected. I plan on installing it as soon as possible. It was bought so that I would have more room in the Kia for my two Golden Retrievers and tow a suitcase rack. 535595

The product by itself would have ranked 5 stars - excellent quality and arrived super fast - but the instructional videos that ETrailer provides for these products are absolutely amazing. The videos saved me TONS of time and frustration and made this project come out perfectly. Plus I saved a bunch of money by doing the install myself. I couldn't be happier. Great job ETrailer! 587982

Kia

I bought a etrailer hitch receiver, Reese cargo basket, etrailer rainproof bag, and lastly a Silent Hitch Pin (anti rattle). It all showed up in a few days. Unpacked everything that night w/no parts missing which is a plus. Took about 10 mins to put the carrier together. Installed the receiver yesterday (after reading through the installation instructions a couple times to be familiar w/the steps taken). Just backed the vehicle up on car ramps and used a crawler. The receiver install took about an hour and was pretty easy to do. Had to use Kroil in the factory threads (due to rust) in My Kia. Instructions reminded me to do this and it is definitely a good thing to do. Put the carrier on for a test fit (the pin will be appreciated later I'm sure) and looks like the whole package is gonna work perfect for a trip out of state later this month. I'll update my review then. 668477

Everything was very good with the exception of when we were fitting up the hitch on the passenger side and trying to line up the holes for item 3 & 4 we ran into an interference with a weld on the frame of the car. It did not allow us to be able to freely line up those bolt holes. We had to lower the hitch and grind away a portion of the leading edge of the hitch. After doing this, everything went according to installation instructions. Also if the photos could have been a little lighter it would help. Overall Good. 535713

This product is exactly as advertised. I am not a mechanic, nor am I really that handy with tools. I was able to do this install in about an hour and a half by myself. If I had a set of hands to hold this in place while I worked on the other side of the car it would have taken me about half as long. As it was I as under the car(in my driveway with no lift) holding one side up with my hip and trying to align the carriage bolts on the other side.I only mention all of this to make the point that, this is a relatively easy install process that can be accomplished with relative ease. This is the second receiver I order from etrailer.com, and the second one that I am very satisfied with. I had the other hitch for 3 years with zero complaints, this one I have only had for about a week, but we had its maiden voyage this weekend and it worked great!etrailer.com is easy to deal with, easy to navigate the website, and the instructions were spot on. I would recommend this site 10/10 times! 535688

The first hitch I order was really scraped up down to the bare metal in places. I was very unhappy as what is the point of having a good finish when its scratched off in places. I plan on keeping my Sorrento for a long time and want the hitch to last. I was told they come this way sometimes and that it was scratched up during shipment and preparing a package from the pallet it shipped on. This did not seem logical to me because I cannot imagine customers would tolerate product in this kind of condition. after providing customer service with some pictures of the damaged product ustomer service apologize assured me they would send me out a new 1 right away which I quickly received. The new one with nearly flawless however the box still had two spots that failed slightly scratching the hitch just like my first one. A little more care in preparing the hitches for shipment would easily solve this problem. The box just needs to be reinforced in two locations. The hitch itself looks to be of excellent quality and I believe I will be very happy with it. Etrailer should have never shipped the first hitch in such poor condition but they did make it right and sent me a new one. All of this could have been avoided if they would have paid closer attention prior to shipping me a hitch and they would have miney not having to ship a second hitch out and ship the old one back. 535717

Can I rate it a 4.5? Received in 2 days...Very impressive build...toward 100#. After install there is no doubt in my mind about pulling a trailer! Its a great addition to my 2019 Kia Sorrento. Installation video was awesome helpful. Only issue was putting the long bolts through the frame. tolerances were a little too tight. Had to hammer the bolts into place...they would not go any other way. Took some doing ...but the end product torqued in.... is quite impressively heavy duty. 579705

It was pretty simple and straightforward. Follow the directions and easy peasy. Was a little tough installing on my own but was able to get it in. At first I thought it needed to be sent back since the passenger side holes didn’t match up. BUT once I loosened the driver side bolts it matches up. So keep that in mind. Thanks etrailer.com. I m sure I will order other accessories as well. 588128

  • What Trailer Hitch Offers the Most Ground Clearance for a 2019 Kia Sorento
When we installed the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver part # E98843 on a 2018 Kia Sorento we found that the distance from the ground to the bottom of the receiver tube opening is around 11". We have not yet had a chance to install this hitch on a 2019 Kia Sorento but the above should give you a good idea of what your clearance will be. It will however vary depending on tire size and the amount of cargo but not by much. If you need more than 11" we do offer the Draw-Tite Max-Frame...

This finish not only looks more natural on your vehicle but it also does a much better job at hiding scratches and dents from road debris than the glossy black powder coat does that more traditional trailer hitches use. • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wheelchair Carrier for 2019 Kia Sorento
For your 2019 Kia Sorento I recommend the etrailer.com Class III Trailer Hitch # e98843 because it features the highest tongue weight capacity available at 750 pounds and has a unique matte black finish to provide a rugged appearance. The hitch itself is more than up to the task of supporting your loaded wheelchair carrier. It will install using existing holes in the Sorento's frame for a no-drill installation. I have attached an install video that you can also use for reference. In...

The etrailer hitch, part # e98843, for your 2018 Kia Sorento is rated for 750 pounds of tongue weight and 5,000 pounds of trailer weight. In most cases the hitches are rated for more than the actual vehicle. To determine your vehicle's capacities you need to check your owners manual for what the vehicle is rated for. From the online copy I found, the towing capacity for the 2018 Kia Sorento is rated between 2,000 and 5,000 pounds of gross trailer weight. This number is determined by the...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2018 Kia Sorento
The trailer hitch I recommend for a 2018 Kia Sorento (All Models) is the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98843 which is a direct bolt-on fit which has a 5,000 lbs weight capacity. I really like the etrailer hitch over the Curt and Draw-Tite options because it has a matte finish which will do a better job of hiding nicks and it blends in with the vehicle much better which you can see below.
