Dexter Brake Actuator - DX33FR

  • Surge Brake Actuator
  • Drum Brakes
  • 2 Inch Ball Coupler
  • 7500 lbs GTW
  • Bolt-On
  • No Lockout
  • Straight Tongue Coupler
  • Dexter

Use this corrosion-resistant actuator to synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow-vehicle brakes. Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on 2" hitch ball. Designed for hydraulic drum brake applications.

Features:

  • Hydraulic actuator activates trailer's brakes when tow vehicle slows or stops
  • Low-profile coupler latch ensures easy, secure connection
    • Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on hitch ball
  • Aluminum master cylinder is better at reducing corrosion than cast steel master cylinders
  • Zinc plating offers excellent corrosion resistance
  • Bolt-on installation
  • Manual lockout kit included
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: hydraulic drum brakes
  • Ball size: 2"
  • Mounting holes positioned 3/4" down
  • Mounting: straight, 3" wide trailer tongue
  • Capacity: 7,500 lbs
  • 2-Year limited warranty

When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Perfect fit. I had to notch one corner where my wiring came out of the box tubing. Really nice compared to the original that was on there

I am very please. I received the wrong actuator, my fault. You immediately got me a return label sent it back. The money was refunded and then I purchased the right one. Received it in a few days. Excellent over all. Thank you

This is a very well made Brake Actuator, with high quality and heavy duty materials. Flat top design suits my requirements of opening the tail gate without worrying about damaging the tailgate and for fixing the sticker for Ford Pro-Trailer Back up Assist. Overall, I am pretty happy with the product, pricing and prompt shipping.

However, I have two observations to make:
1. Manual lockout plate could have been tethered to receiver. Even better, fitted with a magnet so that plate does not fall off, when you are moving the trailer back and forth. There are after market products available with magnet. I improvised on my own with a piece of strong magnet from old hard drive.
2. I bought Dexter A-60 bolt-on top mount for two different trailers. I observed that in both cases, the mounting holes in the receiver does not exactly line up with holes in trailer tongue- off by about 1/16th of an inch. Looks like the inner unit welding to outer case could be the cause.

So I would rate the product as 4.5/5.

Worked great, replaced an old Atwood, welded in where the old one was cut out. Minor modification to the brake line, easy to bleed master cylinder and then bleed brake system. Coupler is extremely easy to use.

Paul is awesome!!
I was very pleased
with the way he handled the order. I was going to order it online but he suggested that he could possibly have it delivered in 3-4 days. Actually it was delivered in 24 hours.
I thought [other retailers] were quick about deliveries till I ordered from etrailer.
The coupler and the brake actuator fit perfectly and definitely was a great replacement from the Atwood coupler.
Thanks. Paul.

Received the brake actuator very fast, and it appears to be very well made. I have not as yet had time to weld it to the swing-away connection, but I don't think it will be a problem.

The manual lockout device, supplied with the actuator, requires a second person to hold it in place when backing. It will not stay in place on its own.

  • Front of Housing to Edge of Fill Cap Dimension of Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuating Coupler
The front of the housing to the edge of the fill cap closest to the front of the coupler is 7-7/8 inches, as shown in the provided photo. You'd be better off mounting the sticker on the top or side of the trailer tongue behind the actuating coupler. You wouldn't want to apply the sticker over the junction between the housing and the portion of the actuator that modes, as it would destroy your sticker.

This is a bolt on application that fits a 2" hitch ball and has a weight capacity of 7,500 lbs. The bolt holes sit down 3/4" from the top of the trailer tongue and then they are 3" apart on center. If you have an actuator with different specs let me know what those are and I can see if we have something that works for you.

I have a solution for you that will work as a replacement. Unfortunately, we do not carry the correct replacement shock T4502000 for your Dico Aero 6000 actuator because it has been discontinued from production. I went ahead and reached out to Dexter axle (the makers of the Dico Aero 6000), and they said that, sadly, the only thing to do would be to replace the actuator itself. • Can Reverse Lockout Be Added to Atwood Surge Brake Actuator
I do have an option for you though we don't have any reverse lockout kits for Atwood surge brake actuators as they are no longer in business. The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX33FR is a good choice to work with the Dexter Hydraulic Brake Kit # T4442100-000. The weight rating being slightly higher than your trailer weight with your boat is okay and not overkill.
