This cutaway view of the shank shows the locking mechanism in action. The locking pins extend out from the shank when the key is turned, locking the ball mount into the hitch.
The ball platform locks to the ball mount with an internal lock. When you unlock the platform you can slide it up or down to adjust the ball height. You can also slide the platform off, reverse it, and slide it back on to change ball sizes.

The 1st one I purchased had Chrome Balls, do yourself a favor and do not buy a Chrome Ball Hitch, I do not think the Stainless Balls were an option when I purchased 3 years ago. The issue with the Chrome ball is they RUST! It ruined my hitch and unfortunately the balls can't be replaced which is pretty stupid. Looking forward to the New Hitch and Stainless Balls holding up better than the 1st Hitch, i'll keep you posted.
A very nice ball mount and a very clean look. No pins or external locks. Pricey but really nice. For safety the key will not come out of the lock unless the pins are in the locked position. I keep the key with my ignition key to make sure I lock the mount to the hitch. I purchased the model with the Stainless balls, very nice with no rust.

Wow, this hitch is a beast! You can just feel the build quality. That goes without saying that it is actually built really well.
It was a bit of a tight fit in my 2015 F-450 receiver, but a small amount of bearing grease inside the receiver around the corners made it slide in and out a little more easier by hand in case I need to flip it in the field. Doesn't rattle either. Overall, I am very pleased. It just looks good hanging off the back of any 3/4 ton or larger truck. I think if you have a smaller truck, this might not be for you. Then again, I am for function before fashion really!
Lee S - 06/30/2016One of the best investments I've made. Looks good, can't be stolen, stainless steel balls still look new after a year. The quality shows as I've never had one issue with the locks or pins. If you have more than one trailer this is the hot setup. I have 4 trailers using both 2" and 2-5/16 sizes. All require different heights and adjusting this is a breeze. Since I have the various trailer, to make changes quick and accurate I have a number written on each trailer tongue as to what number hole the hitch should be in for each trailer. Beats trying to remember. Do I think its worth the money? Well, bought a second one as a gift for my son!
If you keep the hitch on the truck all the time (I don't) ; be sure to keep the locking mechanism lubricated! Even the plastic dust cover can't keep all the road goo than can acquire.
Other than that, awesome product!
Rich - 05/23/2018I love this product. I have ordered the second one in two years. This time I ordered the SS ball option. If you get the chrome you need to stay after it or it starts to rust. I leave my ball mount on all year and with a little maintenance you can keep the aluminum very shinny.
Love the flexibility of being to adjust on the fly with no tooling.
Mike B - 11/21/2017Great wow factor right out the box. Super solid, great looking and impressive. Just installed and will be using it this week for a 3000 mile round trip towing a 24' 10,000 lb loaded trailer. First impressions are magnificent.
locking mechanism is hard to operate after being in weather for awhile.
Shipping was a little slow, but part was worth the wait.
Very high quality part with great finish machine work.
The fit in the reciever is a little loose, will try plastic shim to minimize rattle noise.
I probably should have ordered the 4" drop, as the 6" hangs a bit low on my 2012 3500 GMC but if I ordered 4 I would have needed 6.
Overall great product, very happy
So far I'm excited about my new hitch. I'll no more after a Michigan winter. Sure is nice looking!!!
What a great product. Polished aluminum and Stainless steel. No worry about rust here in the cleveland winters. Very convenient to have the height adjustability and both ball sizes all in one easy to store and use package.
It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. This will last for years to come.
Very nice hitch I just wish this unit had an anti rattle. It is a very nice hitch and looks great.
Well made and worth the price. Easy to adjust and remove. I had read some reviews that complained about the key seal. I have had no issues with them at all. I would definitely recommend this product.
