Video Transcript for Curt Accessories and Parts C17125 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number C17125. This is the Curt Weight Distribution Shank. It's going to have a gross towing weight capacity of 15,000 lbs with a maximum tongue weight capacity of 1,500 lbs. This portion here is going to be the port and the sides and the receiver tip of your hitch. It is designed for 2" by 2" trailer hitch receivers. You're going to push it in so your pin holes holds the line up with one another. Then you'll need to install a 5/8" pin and secure with a clip or you can install a hitch pin unlock.

Those items are sold separately and they can be found right here on etrailer.com. Few key measurements to go over for this system. We definitely want to go over from the center of the hitch pin hole to the end of the shank or the front face of that shank. It's going to give us a measurement of 9". From the center of the hitch pinhole to the back of the shank, it's going to give us a measurement of 3". This is a solid steel construction. It's very heavy duty.

Its also got a nice black powder coated finish on it so its going to stand up really well against rust and corrosion. If we measure the bar from end to end. It's going to give us a measurement of about 20 and 7/8". If we measure from the bottom of the bar to the bottom of our shank. That's going to give us a measurement of about 18 and 7/8".

If we're going to include the weld here, right here at the corner then that measurements going to be 18 and 1/2". From the center of the hitch pinhole to the back of the brace, that's going to give us a measurement of three inches and then from the back of the brace to the end of the shank is going to be 6 and 1/8". The holes here for as to mount are towing application. From center to center they are going to be separated by an inch an a quarter. From the center of the bottom hole to the center of the top hole, that's going to give us a measurement of 6 and 1/4". If I measure from the center of the top whole to the top of the bar, top of the shank.

It's going to give us a measurement of about 13 1/2". Center of the bottom hole to the top of the shank, is going to be about 19 7/8". Measuring from the face again to the back of the shank is going to be about 12". If I measure from the back of the upright portion to the back of the shank. That's going to be about 10". Again, very heavy duty solid steel construction and black powder coated finish on it. It's really going to stand up well against the elements. Please keep in mind that this is intended for using the drop position only. That would be this side portion side into the hitch. Then this portion hanging down from the vehicle. It's not intended for the rise position. Drop position only when using this shank. That's going to do it for today's review of part number C17125.This is the Curt Weight Distribution Shank rated at 15,000 lbs. .

This is the second hitch I've bought cant say enough about etrailer first hitch was a fifth wheel then this drop for my dually. Needed the drop to pull a bumper pull tiny house. Great service fast shipping hitch looks well built. The only disappointment I have is it is made in China. I prefer buying American but it appears to be well made welds look great I hope its not made from recycled metal time will tell I hope this helps anyone buying a hitch 418435

Purchased a 12" distribution shank from e-trailer to tow my horse trailer on my new motorhome. I bought it from etrailer because they had the best price and free delivery. The distribution shank I received was awesome. It solid steel and out together really good. I could not have been happier. When purchasing any trailer items I always check with etrailer first. I have never been disappointed yet. 335307

I had used a dropped hitch to move the trailer but with a rating of only 5,000 lbs. I could never use the trailer at it's full 12,000 lb. capacity nor I could use the weight distributing hitch, the Curt Weight Distribution Shank rated @ 15,000 lbs. addresses both these issues in one part built exactly for this purpose, couldn't be happier with this purchase. 210771

This shank was very well made. Just not the right length. Had to get a smaller one. I had no trouble buying it or returning it. They where very helpful and nice. The delivery time was very fast too. Went with the normal delivery and it was at my door in 2 days. Was very surprised. Definitely would recommend. 280150

This thing is a tank! The square tubing is solid steel, where many are hollow. The gusseting and the welds are super thick, and the coating is great. It may be more weight than some people want to deal with, but nothing on this is going to break. Fast shipping! 217717

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • How to Pick Out a Weight Distribution System for a Truck with a 6 inch Lift
  • The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. Once you figure out the loaded tongue weight of your setup check out the link I attached to see all of the systems we carry. You will need to select your tongue weight from...

  • Drop Shank Options for Husky Centerline Weight Distribution System
  • All of the weight distribution systems use the same shank mounting dimensions so other brands of weight distribution shanks can be used with your Husky Centerline TS. If you need just a few more inches of drop the Curt shank part # C17123 would work well. For a bit more of a drop the # C17124 would work well. The largest drop we have is the part # C17125 which probably would be too much for you setup.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Shank With 11 Inch Drop
  • The weight distribution shank I recommend that will give you enough drop is the Curt Weight Distribution Shank, part # C17125. This shank has a 1,500 lb tongue weight capacity, and features a drop that measures from 11 inches to 14-1/2 inches. I have attached a link to a helpful article about weight distribution you may want to check out.

  • Largest Drop Weight Distribution System Shank Availability
  • That's a pretty low trailer you have. To compute the correct amount of drop you would need you need to measure from the top of the hitch opening to the ground and from the bottom of the coupler to the ground. Based on the dimensions you just gave you would need a drop of 19 inches. The weight distribution shank we offer that has the most drop is the part # C17125 which can do up to 14-1/2 inches of drop. Since 16 inches from the ground is pretty low for a trailer I am hoping that was...

  • Drop Shank Recommendation for Lifted Truck Using Weight Distribution
  • For a lifted truck you will need a drop shank like the part # C17125 to use a weight distribution system like part # C17333 and still tow the trailer level. You didn't say how much drop you would need but to determine that you will need to measure from the top of the hitch opening down to the ground and then measure from the bottom of the coupler on the trailer when it is sitting level down to the ground. The difference between those two dimensions is the amount of drop you would need. The...

  • Tall Drop Shank Available for Use with Husky Weight Distribution on Lifted Vehicle
  • You are going to need quite a bit of drop since your truck is lifted so high. The one with the most drop that we offer that would work well is the Curt # C17125. This shank has 20-7/8 inches from the top of the shank down to the very bottom like what you see in the picture I attached. For a drop shank with not quite as much drop we have the # C17124 which has 13-1/2 inches instead. Both of these will work with a Husky weight distribution system.

  • Suggestions For Leveling Trailer With Weight Distribution System On New Truck
  • The ground clearance of 3-1/2 inches you said you would have with the # C17125 shank would be a problem and I would not recommend making that change. You said you are about 2 inches too high with the # EQ90-02-4400 shank. Before you purchase a new shank you may want to try shifting some of the weight in the trailer forward. This would add a bit of tongue weight and may be enough to get it more level. You still want to make sure you do not exceed 15 percent weight for your tongue weight....

Also note this weight distribution system will require a hitch ball, either # A-90 for a 2" ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16" ball. The Strait-Line # RP66073 has a tongue weight capacity of between...

However, it is limited to 6,000 lbs when extended 24 inches, so it will not work for your application. You will need to go with the Superhitch. The part # C17123 can do a drop of up to 12-1/4 inches which means it would be 18-1/4 inches from top of the shank down to the bottom.
