Karrier S-Trail Radials with Automotive-Grade Tread

Kenda Karrier S-Trail Tread Vs Standard Tread

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the automotive-grade, computer-generated tread on these Karrier S-Trail radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Karrier S-Trail tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Karrier S-Trail radials are constructed with double steel belts and full nylon plies for increased durability and endurance. The premium rubber compound materials of this tire help disperse heat.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Thank you for the prompt delivery of the spare tire/wheel I ordered for my double triton pwc trailer.
I am headed out on a trip next week and wanted to make sure I had a spare tire for the trailer with me just in case.I ordered it a little late and was not sure it would arrive in time. But shipped it immediately and it arrived in a couple days, exactly 1 week before my trip. A perfect fit and look also!
Thank you

Very nice wheel and tire and a huge upgrade to my jetski trailer. I love it. Looks so much better than those crappy galvanized wheels...ugh....they look horrible.

The combination of tire and rim at a real good price is what I found at etrailer. My application is for my cargo trsiler which I pull behind my trike. The rims set off the entire trike. I would recommend this company with a 5 star rating. I will return for sure??

This is the 2nd time I bought these rims. I went with a bigger tire this time around for greater load capacity alone with the beefier tire it will handle the tougher road hazards

This is the first boat & trailer that I have purchased in over 30 years so I had a lot to learn, again! Living in NM, a boat hasn't been a priority but enjoyed boating years ago and took the chance.
I know that tires on any vehicle are extremely important but even more on a trailer that you are pulling. I have a 42' 5th Wheel RV and a 30' Horse trailer so this one is much smaller. The boat is only 15' and just over 900 lbs. but blowouts are no fun at all no matter the size of the trailer.
These tires are 10 ply E-rated with great chrome wheels and look terrific.
I quickly learned that C & D rated tires are the norm on small boat trailers but finding the higher E-rating should be well worth it in the long run.
Brandi at etrailer answered all my questions on specs and even placed the order for me on the spot. She was just terrific, also knowledgeable, and willing to spend time getting any answers that she was uncertain about before she would give an answer. She did a great job and the tires were here in just a few days. She gets 10 Stars!
Just to make certain, I had the wheels/tires balanced and installed at my local tire shop and even they were impressed with the quality of the tires.
Time will tell on performance of the tires, but right now I would say that these tires and wheels should be well worth the investment.

Awesome price on a set awesome tires and rims

Wanted to let you know the tires arrived today. They look great. The only
issue is that the holes around the lug nuts are not large enough to allow a
13/16 impact socket to pass through. Standard lug nuts are too shallow. I
suggest you suggest to buyers they purchase a set of chrome lug nuts that
are long enough to protrude 3/4 inches past the hole so a socket can easily
be connected.

Attached is a photo of the lug nuts as well as a shot of my finished Acme
Tow Dolly trailer.

Thanks again for the speedy shipment.

Great tire and rims look good too. Use them for mostly short local fishing trips but used them a 1,000 mile round trip to Canada this past summer. Much better and smoother ride than the factory bias ply tires. Looking for something reliable give these a shot. Spend a little extra money you won't be disappointed. Picture is right after installation

Really didn't expect to get such quality for so little. I know where I am shopping now on.

I tried for days calling 40~ places within 2 states to find these tires, but should have just gone with etrailer. I'll never use anyone else.

The service was excellent. For a guy who doesn’t like to order anything online my experience has changed my mind about ordering things. Teresa was patient and very knowledgeable with all the products I asked about. I will definitely keep her in mind if I’m in need of something

In spite of the covid delays happening everywhere, etrailer still came thru and delivered the tires and wheels I need to make my small business keep going!

I purchased four tires and wheels, centers, and lug nuts on April 12, 2020 for our pontoon boat trailer. We changed them on May 16, 2020 and they look great! The wheels, centers, and lug nuts fit perfectly. During the purchase process I e-mailed a list of questions and Connor L. responded quickly with the answers I needed. I appreciate the customer service and quality of the products!

These products are working great after one year and look fantastic.

Found a cut in an existing acme tow dolly tire originally ordered from Ordered a replacement with my phone the afternoon I discovered the cut. It was shipped free that day. I received it 3 days later. Excellent service with full tracking on shipment. My spare was new. Tire I received enables me to start a 3 month Motorhome trip with 2 new dolly tires.

Wow what great service! Tires and rims look great and where perfect fit! Really enhance the look of my trailer too! Can't beat free shipping and I received them the next day! Awesome!!!

Very pleased with these tires and rims, Have been using them on my single axle boat trailer carrying an 18 foot boat with no problems at all.

Adam was very helpful and we came up with the best wheel and tire for my new smoker trailer I just finished. Showed up at my house earlier than expected. Very happy with my experience.

The taillight lens was an exact fit. It looks just like the factory one. The tire and wheel are to be used for a spare for my Load Rite tandem jet ski trailer & the tire is exactly the same as what came on the trailer. The Dutton-Lainson trailer spare tire carrier was easy to install and is very secure. had everything I needed and the shipping speed was excellent. I'll definitely be ordering from them again when I need similar products.

The only E rated tire I could find in this size. They look pretty good. I ran the same tire in a D rated tire last summer and they held up well. The wheels are nice too, you need to buy some 1/2 Acorn nuts, [online vendor] is the place to get them. I also balance my wheels to give my trailer and the bearings a fighting chance for the long trips we take when pulling the Jet Skis with the motorhome. I recommend these Tires

Working great 1 year later! no Issues. Used them on a heavy enclosed trailer with ATV or snowmobiles quite a few times last year.

Received. Alum wheel and tire in great condition. Thank you for your help in getting new lug nuts to fit alum wheel.

by: 06/22/2021

Had to buy new lug nuts. The ones on the trailer wouldn't allow me to tighten with tire tool. Lug nuts needed to be longer.

etrailer is awesome, tire and wheel was a perfect match to my setup on a jet ski trailer and fast shipping. Thanks etrailer

The wheels look great on my aluminum utility trailer. They've only been on for a week, so I can't say a lot about the tires.
etrailer is an awesome retailer, and their prices seem to be very competitive.

The tires and wheels are great. They replaced a set of low speed tires on a aluminum trailer I bought from [local discount tool store]They still look like new. Thank you for checking in. I always refer your company when others ask about tires and wheels or other parts you may carry.

  • Recommended 5 on 4-1/2
I have a few options for you to consider. I recommend using a tire and wheel combo as they will come pre assembled and matched to their correct wheel size. This will not only take the guess work out of matching a specific tire to a certain wheel but will also save you money by not having to get the tires mounted to the wheels. For a ST145/R12 tire and wheel combination with 1520 lb. capacity, I recommend Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" Aluminum Wheel part # AM31215 as...

  • Speed Rating for Special Trailer Tires in Size ST145/80-12
Excellent question. Trailer tires that we sell will indicate a speed rating ONLY IF that rating is other than the nominal 65-mph. The Kenda Karrier S-Trail wheel/tire # AM31215 has a 65-mph maximum speed so we do not indicate anything about speed on its product page. The linked page displays all wheel/tire items in this same 12-inch wheel and ST145/80-12 tire size. In this specific size we have no tires rated for higher speeds.

  • Does Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Trailer Wheel/Tire AM31215 Come Fully Balanced
Trailer wheel/tire items such as Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 # AM31215 are not given a full dynamic balancing treatment but they are mounted together so that the tire's light spot is mated to the wheel's heavy spot. This provides enough balancing for trailer tires. Passenger vehicle tires on the other hand require a full dynamic balance (with weights added as needed) so that they perform properly. Trailer tires can be balanced in this way if you like but it is not essential.

  • What is the Recommended Tire Pressure for the Karrier ST145R12 Radial Trailer Tire AM31215
With trailer tires you have to keep the pressure at the max rating that you see listed on the sidewall. For the part # AM31215 that you referenced you would need to keep the tire inflated to it's 80 psi max rating. This ensures that you get the full capacity for the tire and prevents heat build up which ultimately causes tire failure.

  • Would the Karrier ST145R12 Radial Trailer Tire and Wheel AM31215 Work Well on a Pontoon
As long as the bolt pattern of the # AM31215 would match what you have on your pontoon boat this wheel/tire combo would work well. The tire would end up about an inch taller in diameter so you might check for fender clearance. You'll want at least 3-1/2 inches minimum. The bolt pattern of the wheel is 5 on 4-1/2 inch. I attached a review video for the wheel/tire for you to check out as well.

  • Largest Wheel and Tire Size Available to Fit on 2,000 lb Trailer Axle
Most hubs that fit a 2,000 lb axle can only fit up to a 12 inch diameter wheel. What size wheels/tires do you have now? There might be a larger size available but probably only up to a 12 inch wheel setup. The part number # AM31215 is a wheel and tire with the tire size ST145R12 that matches your bolt pattern. It's overall diameter is 21.3 inches and has a section width of 5.7 inches. This would be the largest wheel setup I can feel safe about recommending right now.

What you are looking for is the backspacing of the trailer wheel and tire part # AM31215. Which this wheel and tire has a backspacing of 3 inches. This means you'd have 1/2 an inch of clearance on your setup since you have 3.5 inches from the hub face to the axle frame.

  • Does GVWR of Trailer Change Depending on Trailer Tire Size
It is interesting that you have 3 different GVWRs on your trailer. I am thinking that this is referring to different OEM tire sizes so I believe you are correct that your max GVWR is 5,320 lbs. If this is the case (which it would be beneficial to verify this with the trailer manufacturer) then you simply need to upgrade the lowest rated component(s) on your trailer to increase your GVWR. Backspacing is measured from the hub's mounting surface to the inside lip of the wheel. Therefore, you won't have any issues with rubbing the inside frame rail which means you shouldn't have any issues with overall fit.
