Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap included with this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for etrailer Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly Installation

Today on our trailer we'll be installing the E-Trailer and Axle Technology Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 7,000 Pound Axles, featuring a 12 inch diameter drum with an 8 by 6 1/2 bolt pattern. It's part number AKHD-865-7-2-K. Now our drum and hub assembly is also available with a 9/16 inch diameter wheel stud, as it is available as part number AKHD-865-7-1-K. Here's what our new hub looks like. As you can see, it's a brand new hub assembly. We have our braces already pressed into the hub. We have a nice brand new surface material here for our magnet to grab onto for our brakes to actuate.

We have a nice fresh and clean drum surface for our shoes to make full and even contact with. We have a new race 00:00:58 pressed in for the outer bearing. We also have 8 brand new wheel studs pressed into place. Our hub comes with 8 brand new lug nuts, too, so you don't have to worry about having old worn out lug nuts that are rusty. These will go right on nice and smooth.

We have a new inner wheel bearing and a new outer wheel bearing. Also have a new grease seal here, and finally a new dust cap. Now we'll begin our installation by first packing our wheel bearings. We'll start with the inner one first. Take a tub of grease, drop the bearing on down in there. Spin it around a little bit, get it nice and coated.

Then we'll start working our grease into our rollers. If you need to purchase any axle grease we do have this available on our website. Now that I'm holding the inner section of the bearing and moving the outer section and it feels nice and smooth, what we're going to do is we'll put some grease around the inside of it and we'll coat the outer portion of the bearing as well. We'll drop our wheel bearing into our hub. Now we can stall 00:02:28 our grease seal. Put it down in position into our hub.

Now, you can use a seal installer if you have one. I don't have one large enough to do this, so I'm going to use the old fashioned block of wood trick. I'll stick it on top of it, make sure it's sitting nice and flush, and we'll tap it in with our hammer. As you can see, that pushed our seal in nice and straight and didn't cause any damage to it. Now that our seal is fully installed I always like to take a clean shop towel with some brake parts cleaner and clean off our area where our shoes will make contact, just in case there's any oil or grease from manufacturing on our hub assembly. We'll flip it on over and we'll work on packing our inner bearing at this time. We'll work all this grease on the outer bearing just like we did on the inner one. We'll set it aside right there. Slide our new hub assembly onto our spindle. Now we can install our outer wheel bearing. Slide it in place. Take our washer here, slide it on in position. Reinstall our nut. Rotate our hub a little bit while we tighten the nut down. Make sure we have good free play in our bearings, which we do. It rotates nice and smooth. That grinding noise you're hearing are our brake shoes rubbing against our drum; that's normal. We have to adjust those a little bit here shortly. Now I'll reinstall our tab here which holds our lock nut in place. Before we reinstall our grease cap I always like to take a little bit of grease, put it in there, just so if it needs to it can work it's way into the bearings. Take our new cap, place it into our hub, and we'll tap it in. Clean off our excess grease and that completes our installation of the E-Trailer Axle Technology Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 7,000 Pound Axles, part number AKHD-865-7-2-K on our trailer.

- AKHD-865-7-2-K

The brake assemblies and drum/Hubs were a perfect fit thanks to etrailer customer service taking the time on the phone to make sure I measured and ordered the correct parts. I made two mistakes during installation. Put a left brake assy on right side and had to take everything off again. Although they were packed tight, because of rough shipping one brake shoes self adjustment cable (the last one I installed) was disconnected and had to be re-connected, and since I did not inspect all the parts before beginning (second mistake) I had to look on etrailer's web site to see how it was assembled. It took time out of the job and grease on my laptop. If you don't make mistakes, it is EASY. Thanks etrailer. 499270

Ask the Experts about this etrailer Trailer Hubs and Drums

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hubs and Drum?

  • Recommended Hub and Drum Assemblies and Brakes for 7,000 Pound Triple Axle Trailer
  • To determine exactly which hubs you need you'll need to find your bearing numbers. Most likely you have # 25580 and # 14125A but verify to be sure. If these are correct you'll next want to find the diameter of your wheel studs and if you have E-Z Lube axles. If the studs are 9/16 inch use # AKHD-865-7-1-K for E-Z Lube axles and # AKHD-865-7-1-EZ-K for standard axles. For 1/2 inch studs instead use # AKHD-865-7-2-EZ-K for E-Z Lube or # AKHD-865-7-2-K for standard axles. Then...

  • Recommended Hub/Drum Assemblies With 8 Lugs For Spindle Measurements
  • If you want 1/2 inch lugs for your 8 lug hubs, I recommend the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-865-7-2-K. If you want 9/16 inch lugs, I recommend hub/drum # AKHD-865-7-1-K. These assemblies come with the bearings and seals to fit your measurements, only taking an educated guess on the seal based on your other measurements. These hubs have zinc-enriched paint to add durability and resist corrosion and they come with the bearings, races, grease seal, grease cap, and lug nuts.

  • Availability of Replacement for Trailer Hub/Brake Drum 92865A-1
  • According to my research, your 92865A-1 hub/drum has a 25580 inner and an 14125A outer bearing and a 8 on 6-1/2 inch lug pattern, as does the AxleTek # AKHD-865-7-2-K hub drum you referenced. The # AKHD-865-7-2-K would be an acceptable replacement for your existing hub/drums, assuming that your existing grease seals have an ID of 2.25 and an OD of 3.376.

  • Large Spindle and 8 Lug Hub Assembly For Crane Build
  • Our strongest regular spindle is the Spindle 2.25" RD x 6" STUB, # R50642. This spindle is for a 7000 lb axle and the idler hub assembly is # AKIHUB-865-7-1-K. If you wanted a drum assembly with brakes, you would want the # AKHD-865-7-2-K hub and drum assembly with the # AKEBRK-7L-SA brake assembly. We carry heavier drum and brake assemblies, but this is the largest spindle we carry.

  • Comparing etrailer 7K Trailer Hub and Drum Assemblies with 8 on 6-1/2 Bolt Pattern
  • The biggest difference between etrailer hub and drum assembly # AKHD-865-7-2-K and # AKHD-865-7-1-K is the wheel studs. Assembly # AKHD-865-7-2-K uses wheel studs that are 1/2" diameter x 1-5/16" long. Assembly # AKHD-865-7-1-K uses wheel studs that are 9/16" diameter x 1-5/8 long. So you would want to use the one that matches what the wheels require. I have linked video reviews of both for you.

  • Will etrailer Hub and Drum AKHD-865-7-2-K Fit if Spindle Uses 25580/LM67048 Bearings
  • First for hub and drum assemblies they can go on either side. There isn't a left or right specific assembly. There is a left and a right for the brakes themselves though. Based on your bearing information you can use hub and drum assembly # AKHD-865-7-2-K but the seal it uses has an inner diameter of 2-1/4 inches. You would also want to pick up seal set # RG06-090 so you have seals with the proper inner diameter.

  • Replacing Brake Assemblies on 44 Foot Enclosed Haulmark Gooseneck Trailer
  • Converting back to electric brakes would be the easiest and most cost-effective way to go. In order to specify the correct parts, you'll need to have some things confirmed. Hopefully, the seller will help you out with verifying this. A 7K axle will typically use a 12x2 inch brake drum with a 8-on-6-1/2 inch wheel bolt pattern. It would use a # 25580 inner and # 14125A outer bearing. If your existing drums are still serviceable, you could reuse them, but if they need replacement, you'd...

To recommend the correct hub drum for your application, I would need to know your current hub bolt pattern, as well as the bearings it uses. In order to determine your hub drum bolt pattern, you would need to measure...

If you have a # 15123 bearing then you would need that same bearing as a replacement. The only hub and drum with a 8 on 6-1/2 bolt patter that will work for an inner bearing of # 25580 and outer bearing of # 15123 is the # 8-219-50.
