Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer, and today, we'll be taking a look at our cam buckle protector for your Thule tie-down straps here at etrailer. As you can see here on our kayak, we already have a tie down strap with a cam buckle, but it does not have a cam buckle protector. That's where this comes in. This is going to be what you'll use to protect that cam buckle as well as to protect your kayak, because you want to make sure that that metal is not scratching up your kayak. As you can see, the middle cam buckle rubs up against our kayak and can cause scratches and abrasions while our cam buckle protector is nice and smooth against that kayak and doesn't cause any friction at all. While this usually comes with your Thule water sport carriers, it's included in the kit, sometimes is not included, and when that happens, you may want to add it on.
Also, if you happen to damage, break, or lose your current cam buckle protector, that's where this comes in. So you just feed it in through the strap and then just bring this strap through all the way until you get to where that cam buckle is and that's going to be what's protecting it. So since this is designed as a direct replacement for your Thule water sport kayak kit, as well as an addition for your Thule straps. I can't verify if this will work with other straps, but here's some dimensions. So for the opening, which is where that strap feeds through, that's going to be about an inch wide because those straps are an inch wide.
As for the cam buckle itself, it fits perfectly here, inside our protector. And the cam buckle is an inch and five eighth inches long. So my personal recommendation, when it comes to this cam buckle protector is it's definitely a great addition if you have tie-down straps that don't have it, just because over time, you want to make sure that you're protecting your standup paddle boards or kayaks or whatever you're using to strap this down. It does not get into the way of your cam buckle and it allows you to use it properly and safely. So definitely a great addition, if you already have one, as a good replacement, and if you don't have one, as a just in case kind of thing.

I know it was only a two dollar item and I started looking for new kayak tie downs but really only needed the rubber protectors never expecting to find them. Just what I wanted for covering the sinch buckle on the tie down straps for the kayaks. Thule did not have them even tho they come on their straps.!
These buckle bumpers have saved my windshield & paint. I bought a set for me and a set for a friend as a gift. They fit over strap cam buckles and make loading and strapping safer. This is a great time saver and protects your equipment from strap buckles, conveniently slides along the strap so it is always ready and does not fly out or get lost between use. No more padding the strap with a rag.

I recently purchased a new Thule kayak rack that came with straps that did not have buckle protectors, so I ordered them from etrailer.com.
The buckle protectors allow us to toss the buckle end of the straps over the kayak (when the kayak is on the roof rack) without scratching the paint on the car or the side windows. They also protect the kayak itself from being damaged by the metal buckles when they are tightened.
The protectors arrived quickly, as promised and are working as expected. Not sure why Thule does not include them with the rack kit anymore...that is too bad.

All good a year later
Ordered parts for a Thule kayak rack. Parts were Thule and worked well. Also ordered replacement rubber buckle protectors for Thule straps as the rubber was deteriorating after many years of use.

Ordered Thule buckle protectors from etrailer the ones I received looked used. Called the day I received them and spoke to George in customer service. He apologized profusely for the condition of the product and promised to send replacements. I received them a few days later. I am not sure why the reviews of the customer service has been negative, I spoke to a few people there and found everyone to be pleasant and accommodating. Will definitely purchase other products from etrailer.

Excellent product!! I lost two of the original rubber boots for my Thule straps and when I found these I was stoked about the product and the price.
I love your store and all the products. Nice to know I didn't have to purchase an entire set of new straps. I love how I can throw the boot over the car and the buckle won't bang the paint job.

I have the truck bed Thiule aluminum kayak hauler and the straps and accesories. All Thule products are awesome. No issues...just quality products.
This is one great gadget. Got a kayak rack that had 2 straps with these on them. They keep the buckles from hitting/scratching the car. No more paint or glass chips. Bought extra for all other straps.

One year later. When I put things away before winter, I wont have to try to remove scratches from the paint! These are just what I needed.
The Thule straps are rugged and work great to secure kayaks and other loads to my rooftop carrier. An awesome companion is the Thule buckle protector which ensures my car's paint isn't scratched if I inadvertently drop a strap and buckle.
Needed a durable product. I had extra kayak loading straps without protective buckle covers. These fit perfectly. Placed these over kayak load strap buckles to prevent scratching or damage to kayak surface when straps are pulled tight. When my kayaks are mounted on the roof racks on my vehicle the Thule covers prevent damage to the paint when loading straps are tossed over kayaks for fastening. Couldn't find these locally in stores. Excellent product. Super customer service from etrailer, fast and precise delivery.
I have buckle protectors on straps that came with my Thule kayak j-cradles, and had been looking for years for protectors for my other kayak straps. Only e-trailer seems to carry them! I love that the protector completely surrounds the buckle, and that if I need to replace a fraying strap, the protector is interchangeable, easily sliding off the old, then onto the new strap. I highly recommend both the buckle protector and e-trailer!
I bought these to use on a set of Thule straps that came with a thule Top Deck kayak rack that was at the lower end of the price range and didn't include bumper straps ( I was disappointed in Thule for not including them, even at the lower end the rack was almost $200! It should have included bumpers!) . They work perfectly on the straps, make them identical to the straps I have that came with bumpers.

I needed this part for my Kayak Rack. It was in stock, and shipped right away. But what impressed me the most is the service and communication in shipping. Great for use with straps to hold down kayaks on roof rack. I can toss the straps across the top of my vehicle and not worry about scratching my vehicle's paint.
My original pair lasted 6 years in the Florida sun.
Will be getting another pair when these start falling apart.
Somehow I lost one of these. etrailer was one of the few vendors who had them. I worried about throwing the kayak strap over the boat and maybe breaking a window without the protector, so totally worth it to me.
These were a replacement purchase. My Thule bumpers where worn out, so ordered a replaced set.
Shippping was reasonable and customer services was great. I already recommend this to a friend that needs these.
