Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

The parts were all the right ones and most were Dexter oem parts. The only problem I had was putting the bolts in the frame end of the spring perch. It was easier to take the spring loose from the axle, put the bolt in ,then bolt it back to the axle. I intend to buy all of my future trailer parts from etrailer.

by:

I wish it came with a new axle nut and washer, but i was able to use my originals so no big deal. good product, fit perfect

We do have the spindle nut for the one inch spindle as separate part, part # 165686. The matching washer would be part # SW1000.

by:

Everything fit perfect but I have never been able to adjust the brakes so they actually work.

by:

Great quality

Etrailer makes shopping for easy, great pictures and descriptions make it easy to find the right part. This drum was an exact fit for our Dexter brake system on an older tri-axle. We replaced all 6 and they look and fit as the original.

They are a perfect replacement for the 2x12 dexter utility. You are better off going with these rather than the cheaper ones.

  • Parts to Convert 5-Spoke Utility Hub to Modern Style Hub on 10K Trailer
Thank you for reaching out! It looks like your Dexter Axle uses the 5 Spoke Utility Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-174-5UC3 so to replace that and your brakes you need the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K as well as the 12" Self-Adjusting Electric Brakes # TRU96FR. These will be exact fits for your system but the hub and drum kit comes with a slightly larger grease seal so you need the Replacement Grease Seal Set # RG06-090 for each axle on your trailer. • Brakes and Hubs For 6,000LB Axles Using Open 5 Spoke Utility Wheels on a Equipment Trailer
It sounds like your trailer has the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-174-5UC3 with the 5 lug utility bolt pattern. This hub will use the Dexter Electric Brake Kit # 23-105-106-09 which can bolt to either a 4 bolt AL-KO brake flange or the 5 bolt standard bolt flange used on Dexter and Lippert axles. If you have something different please send me measurements and images of your parts.

  • Replacement Hubs for 7,000 Pound Axle With 15123 Outer and 25580 Inner Bearings
The answer to your question depends on the bolt pattern you need. We have one hub that actually uses a # 15123 bearing which is the # 8-174-5UC3. This has a 5-spoke utility bolt pattern. More than likely you have an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern on your trailer. If that is the case you can use the # AKHD-865-7-1-K. The # 14125A outer bearing has the same 1.25" inner diameter so it will fit your spindle. However, I recommend measuring to find the inner diameter of your grease seal. The included...

The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 8-174-5UC3 is designed for use with old centerless wheels which we don't currently offer. The only option we can offer would be to use the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 8-201-9UC3-EZ instead which are designed for standard wheels with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern like the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Tire with 15" White Spoke Wheel part # AM32680 for example. • Recommended Brake Assemblies and Hub/Drum Assemblies for 7,000 lb Axle
With the 7,000 lb axle capacity and the bearings you gave, I can give you what will fit your trailer regardless of brand name. For your trailer brake assemblies, I recommend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 5.2K to 7K # AKEBRK-7-SA. These assemblies will need adjustment only at initial install and then will adjust as needed to optimize your braking performance. For your hub/drum assemblies, I recommend the Dexter Trailer Hub and...

The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 6,000-lb and 7,000-lb Axles - 12" - 5 Spoke Utility # 8-174-5UC3 is the direct replacement hub. We don't have any wheels that are a fit for this utility bolt pattern. My recommendation for you is to use the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum for 5,200-lb and 6,000-lb Axles - 12" Diameter - 6 on 5-1/2 # AKHD-655-6-K which will fit your spindles perfectly as well as your brake assemblies. • Can Flat Bed Trailer Built On Mobilehome Frame Be Towed Without Trailer Brakes?
You can possibly replace your current hub and drum assemblies with an idler hub to remove the trailer brakes, but keep in mind that if the trailer when loaded is over 3000lbs it requires trailer brakes in most states so I recommend checking your local laws to make sure removing your brakes is legal. To find the correct replacement hubs you will need to know the bearing combination your axle uses. To do this you will need to remove one of your hubs and look for the bearing numbers stamped...

  • Hub and Brake Assembly Recommendation to fit Spindle that Fit Hub with Bearings 25580 and LM67048
Yes, the hub part # 8-174-5UC3 that you referenced will fit your spindle as the bearings you listed as having in your hub are the same dimensions as what this hub's bearing are designed to fit. Also, the part # AKEBRK-7-SA is the correct brake assembly set you would need as well.

  • Mounting 5 Spoke # 8-174-5UC3 Trailer Hub to Rim
Typically the hub would be dropped into the rim from the rear until it seats on the lip that runs around the inside of the rim. The rim clamps would then be put in place, and evenly tightened to secure the hub to the rim. If the hub is not seated fully against the rim, and if the clamps were unevenly tightened it would explain the oscillation or wobble you are experiencing. It is also possible that your rim is warped or bent, which would also cause the problem.

The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 6,000-lb and 7,000-lb Axles - 12" - 5 Spoke Utility # 8-174-5UC3 is compatible with either the Dexter Hydraulic Drum Brake Kit - Duo Servo - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 7,000 lbs # 23-336-337 or the free backing Uno Servo # 23-342-343. The Duo Servo option will give you the best braking capacity with those hubs so that is my recommendation.
