Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

The installation went very smooth. All of the holes ligned up perfectly and the guide wires were extremely helpfull. However, I would suggest that all or at least 2 of the wires were about 6 inches longer. I had a little trouble with the wire being a little short on the furthest holes. Overall the product is very well made and is reasonably priced.

I installed the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer hitch receiver in my Ford Escape 2002. It was very easy to install and high quality product.

by:
2001 Ford Escape

Great product, great price, was easy to install, put it on the same day I received it. Used it the very next day. Installed it on my 2001 Ford Escape. I will buy again for my next tow hitch.

by:
2003 Ford Escape

Speedy delivery. Good customer service. The hitch went on easily with the help of the instructions and how-to videos. This was my first hitch install and I was done in 30 min. Highly recommended!

by:

Arrived fast and installed easily - almost like I knew what I was doing! I found that inserting the fish wires backwards then installing the plate and bolt was easier for me.

Ford Escape

This is a great product, it is well made and fits perfectly. My order arrived in good time and everything was in good condition. The installation is fairly easy, the hardest part was fish wiring the bolts and plates into the frame. On my Ford Escape, the rear bumper is very close to the end of the frame so there is not much room to work with. Once the bolts were in place, it was easy. I ordered the wiring kit and that was a simple installation. One tip for the wiring kit - don't read the instructions that come with it, instead watch the video on this website, it is much clearer and easier.

I did order 2 locking hitch pins and they both came with the same key number, which is great. Either the person picking the order made sure they were both the same key or we just got lucky!

If you want a good quality hitch at a great price, you can't go wrong with this one. It looks great on the car and we are already towing the boat with it.

Delivery was extremely fast! The installation videos made this install literally about a 30 minute process or less. It was super easy and I will never use anywhere but etrailer.com again for this type of stuff due to how much I appreciate the organization of their webpage and the videos and the extremely fast shipping.

2003 Ford Escape

Intend this for my "03 Ford Escape
Delivery
was quick - and free.
The hitch is solid.
Problem is...the "receiver" is 2" and the bar and ball saved from my older Escape is Inch and a quarter (or is it inch and a half?)
Yes, there is a 2" bar - but it's over $40 plus shipping.
I wish this had been clear when I ordered.

We do indeed mention several times on the product description page that this hitch features a 2 inch receiver opening.

2003 Ford Escape

Product is solid and arrived very quickly. I'm satisfied with the purchase overall, but fishing wires should be longer. Other reviews mentioning how these are too short are extremely accurate. It's almost impossible to pull the blot through with this line without removing your bumper on a 2003 Ford Escape (which has no heat shield to remove and modify btw). I had to use pliers to twist two of the fishing lines together to make feeding the bolt through manageable. Bottonline is that the hitch is great, but the included fishing lines should be longer to make installation easier for the consumer.

by:
2004 Ford Escape

Service from etrailer.com was beyond EXCELLENT. I received notice of shipment within hours of placing the order. They even upgraded the shipping to 3-5 days without any extra cost. I ordered the entire installation kit... hitch, receivers and wiring for my 2004 Ford Escape. The hitch installation was a bit on the tricky side only because you have to fish the bolts up through the frame. Once they were in place bolting up the hitch itself was a piece of cake. 5 stars for customer service.

by:
2003 Ford Escape

Ordered this hitch for my 2003 ford Escape. Placed order Sunday eve standard shipping and received wed. Very happy with the product. Drove the rear wheels up on ramps and installed in about 35 min. Slightly difficult by myself but is possible if you hold one side with you foot! I ordered the bolt guide wire which was to lose but twisted it to tighten the spring end so there was no chance of the carriage bolt getting stuck. The wiring loom was plug and play. Whole install hitch and wiring took 1 hour with the help of you tube video.

Mazda Tribute

Shipped quickly. The install went very smoothly. I did get a pleasant surprise with this unit. Our Mazda Tribute had the factory 1 and 1/4 inch receiver installed so I thought I would need to remove it before installing this 2 inch. The instruction sheet showed installing the 2 inch under the factory hitch and that made the install process much easier. Also the kit included the 7/16" bolt leader (4 ea) so I didn't really need to purchase the one I bought with the unit. The hitch looks and works great.

by:
2002 Ford Escape

I purchased my hitch and it arrived in the time frame that was estimated on their site. The printed instructions are the only part of the packaging that was disappointing, as the print was small and the diagrams were very light and not easy to read. I gave up on the paper and went to YouTube where i found an extremely helpful video for a 2002 Ford Escape. I did the install myself and it took about an hour. Otherwise the hitch is a homerun and I'm very pleased with your product and service. I would highly recommend your company to anyone in the market for a hitch.
Thank you!

2003 Ford Escape

I was surprised how easy it was to install the trailer hitch and the wiring harness.
It has worked great and saved me over $150. The pictures really helped.

by:
2002 Mazda Tribute

This was awesome to install and worked quite well on a 1000mile trip with over 300 pounds of tongue weight on it. I haven't done the light install yet but the trailer hitch went on beautifully, shipping was awesome as well! So quick to get it. I was pleasently surprised.

by:

First time buying a hitch, I felt I got my moneys worth, very easy to install and very sturdy. Looks great to!

by:
2003 Ford Escape

The check-out process and shipping experience was positive. I believe the hitch receiver came within about 3-4 days after ordering it (no special options for shipping were selected). It seems really solid and all necessary pieces of hardware are intact. It has been confirmed that it is the proper match to my 2003 Escape. Just debating on whether I want to cough up the money to pay U-Haul to put it in or wait until the everlasting MI winter finally graces us with some warmer weather so I can install it at home or have someone do it here. All in all, a positive experience. I'll get back to you once it is actually installed and utilized for a user review.

2004 Ford Escape

Very easy to install and works great. I put this on a 2004 Ford Escape without any issues. Shipping from etrailer was very quick with excellent communication throughout the process. I will also add that the example installation videos on etrailer make the entire process much less intimidating and trouble-free.

by:

Install was so easy! I had never installed one and was a little nervous at first, but I was amazed by how well it went. I pull a pop up camper and a utility trailer quite often, very pleased with this hitch!

by:

The Draw-tite hitch mounted perfectly. The installation was very straight forward and took about 45 minutes (one person) and would go faster and be easier with two people....but it can be done solo. It should be noted that bolt leaders are required for installation of the mounting bolts....by them with the kit as it will really save time!!

The quality of the hitch is top notch. For the hardware, you may want to screw the nuts onto the bolts once or twice to clean up the threads, as a couple were a little rough for me. Other than that there were no problems or issues.

Overall a great Quality item and price...shipping was FAST and FREE...can't get better than that!!!

by:
2003 Mazda Tribute

The shipping was very prompt and the product was as described. I also bought the fish wire which saved my life...couldn't have done it without them. Also bought the OEM light kit and that was a breeze to install.

One of the bolts/nuts was a bit of a pain, but that will happen. Overall I would recommend this product and etrailer.com

by:
2003 Ford Escape

Fit perfectly, you can do it by yourself but would of been a little easier if I had someone holding up other side of hitch when putting in place. Fishing wire for bolts was not included, ended up using stripped thermostat wire instead and worked great. They do sell the fishing wire needed.

My husband just installed the trailer hitch on my Ford Escape. He took
the trailer to the dump today. Super. Now we won't have to buy a
truck. Thanks.

This is the second hitch I have bought from etrailer and the most important things to me are ,1 both have fit perfectly, 2 all their descriptions and details about each were 100% spot on. I am a completely satisfied customer and will recommend them to my friends.

  • What are The Towing Capacities for Trailer Hitches for 2003 Ford Escapes
The Class III 2 inch hitches available for a 2003 Ford Escape have a gross towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, meaning that the trailer and everything on the trailer must weigh less than 3,500 pounds. But you also have to factor in the towing capacity of the vehicle, if it is less than the hitch capacity, you must go by the vehicle capacity. The 2 inch hitch I recommend for your vehicle is the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch # 75118. The Class I trailer hitch available for your Escape...

There are no weight distribution systems that are designed to work with a 1-1/4 inch hitch like what you have on your 2002 Ford Escape, but I do have a solution for you. You will need to replace your hitch with a 2 inch hitch like the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75118. With this hitch you can use a WD system. You can not use a WD system with a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch hitch adapter either. The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the...

A factory trailer hitch from a 1998 Ford Explorer will not fit on a 2001 Ford Escape. Trailer hitches attach to the frame and the Explorer and the Escape are built on two different chassis. If you want to add a trailer hitch to your 2001 Ford Escape, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Trailer Hitch, # 75118. • How to Determine the Correct Ball Mount to Tow a Trailer with a 2004 Ford Escape
You would not necessarily need a ball mount with a rise.
