Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Note: If you are installing the rack using the 2" shank, the included threaded hitch pin does not allow the use of a hitch lock.

The versatile Rola TX-102 hitch-mounted bike carrier allows you to safely and securely carry two bicycles of almost any frame size on the back of your vehicle.

Rola TX-102 bike rack anti-sway cradles

The bike rack has large, soft anti-sway cradles that hold your bikes securely in place during travel with rubber straps and that accommodate bike-frame tube sizes up to 2" wide and 3" tall. The anti-sway devices touch your bike frame at three points to keep the bikes from moving back and forth, eliminating bike-to-bike contact during travel and protecting your bikes's painted surfaces. The cradles can be repositioned along the rack arms to ensure that your bikes remain properly spaced.

Rola TX-102 bike rack arm folding lever

The TX-102 has dual arms that provide your bikes with excellent support. You can fold down the arms for convenient storage when the rack is not in use by removing the handle mounted on the top of the upright support arm. When the arms are lowered replace the handle to lock the arms in place in the down position.

The bike carrier includes an integrated cable lock that stores inside the upright support arm when you are not using the rack. The cable lock secures to a post at the end of one of the rack arms to lock your bikes to the carrier. The cable lock comes with two keys.

Rola TX-102 bike rack spring-loaded tilting pinRola TX-102 bike rack tilted-->

The TX-102 offers easy access to the rear cargo area without your having to remove the bikes from the rack. You can tilt the bike carrier away from your vehicle by pulling a pin at the foot of the rack. Pull the upright arm of the rack up and forward until it rests on the stops that keep it from hitting the ground. To restore the rack to the upright position, push the rack back into place and insert the pin and clip.

The bike carrier features Rola's patented flip shank, which has both a 1-1/4" square end and a 2" square end for use with either size hitch receiver. The shank rotates around a clevis pin and locks into your desired position with a simple pin and clip. This eliminates the need for a hitch adapter and makes moving the rack between vehicles very quick and easy.

Video Transcript for Rola TX-102 Hitch Bike Rack Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Rola TX-102, tilting 2 bike rack for inch and a quarter and 2 inch hitches, part number 59400. The Rola TX is the ideal solution for carrying 2 bikes safely and securely on the back of your vehicle to the trails. It secures our bike in 3 places with these heavy duty adjustable straps. We've got 2 for the top tube, and then 1 for the down tube. This one's going to be our anti sway strap and it's going to help reduce the movement in our bike while we're on the road. The cradles are adjustable along the dual arms, and their going to help keep bike to bike contact down to a minimum. They're made out of a heavy duty rubber, so it's going to help protect our bike's finish, and they also feature raised grooves to help accommodate our brake lines.

The anti sway cradle itself pivots around the dual arms to ensure the best bike contact. It also has a rubber padding with raised grooves to further accommodate our brake lines. For additional security, we have an integrated lock that is stored in our center mast. It comes with 2 keys. We've got a nice dust cover to help protect it from the elements. It's simply going to clip onto our lock on the end of our dual arms.

What we'll do is we'll pull it out, and then we'll just clip it into the end. Our dual arms are going to provide excellent support for our 2 bikes. They fold down for storage when not in use. Just simply pull out the 2 pins on top, lower them back down, and then you've got it. The whole back rack is a silver powder coat finish, so it's going to be protected from rust and corrosion. Some bikes, such as your women's and children's and bikes with alternative frame styles, may require the use of a bike adapter bar.

This is just going to help keep your bike nice and level, and make it fit better with the bike rack. We've got plenty here at etrailer.com, go ahead and pick one up. Now that we've gone over some of the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. This can be used for either inch and a quarter, or 2 inch hitches. We've got a 2 inch receiver here today, so we're going to go ahead and flip our shank around and realign the pin holes here.

Put our pin back in place. It doesn't matter which side you put your pin in, just as long as you put the clip on the other side. Then, we can go ahead and load our shank into the receiver, and line up the pin holes. Once I get those pin holes lined up, I'll take my included anti rattle bolt, and thread that through. Now, the nice thing about this anti rattle bolt is it's going to help reduce some of the play and the rattle within our hitch and our bike rack here. As you can see, there's a lot of play. Tighten down your anti rattle bolt. Today, I'm using a socket wrench to do it. Once we get that tightened up, put our pin in place. As you can see, most of that play is gone. Now, before we load up a bike, it does have a nice tilt feature, so if you need to get into your rear hatch, you just simply come down here, pull off the clip, remove the pin, lift up on our center mast, tilt it outward until it rests right here, and then we can get into our rear hatch to remove any cargo, gear, groceries, anything we might have with us on our trip. Now we can undo our straps to get ready to load our bike. We'll come up and over the dual arms. Work our way to the back. Want to make sure that our down tube is right nicely up against this cradle here. This is going to be our anti sway cradle. We'll bring our top one over. Want to make sure that our top tube sits nicely in the top portion there. Bring our strap over, and then same thing with this one. Now that we've got one bike loaded up, let's go ahead and load up one more and then take it on our test course to see how it performs. Here on our test course, let's go into our slalom. It's going to show side to side action, such as going around corner or evasive maneuvering. Then, onto our alternating speed bumps, this is going to show a twisting action, such as going over pot holes, or uneven pavement. Then finally onto our solid speed bumps. This is going to show an up and down action, such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking lot. That's going to complete our look at the Rola TX-102 tilting tube bike rack for inch and a quarter and 2 inch hitches, part number 59400.

The product seems pretty sturdy but after a month of daily use, the anti-sway strap is breaking apart. As I am writing this review, I need to find out if I can buy a replacement. Even though the bike is tighten with the anti-sway strap, it still sway back and hit the Main Support Tube (pole). I am not sure 570923

The bike rack is very wobbly even though installed correctly. Putting the bike on the rack also results in the rack scratching the paint off my bike's frame so that my bike. 573709

Comments

If there is still wobble in the bike rack you can always use an anti-rattle immobilizer such as part # RM-061. The Roadmaster quiet hitch will tighten up the space between the bike rack shank and the hitch receiver and eliminate wobble. If you need a no frame contact bike rack I recommend part # TS02G Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack. The design of the Kuat transfer includes ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes by the wheels with no frame contact.

Overall, I like this bike rack, very solid, high quality. The only complaint is that it swings noticeably. So I can’t give it 5 stars. But for the price, it’s a good product. I would recommend it to buy. 570385

I like the receiver bike rack functioning and holding the bicycles but it is a bit on the heavy side should of been made of aluminum 570670

If you are looking for lighter weight bike rack I recommend Thule Helium Aero 2 Bike Rack part # TH9042. The thule Helium is made of aluminum and weighs 18.25 lbs.

I really like the Hitch, but received it in a damaged box and with some scratches. I installed it on the vehicle in less than 30 minutes. Only had one issue starting the rear bolt on the passenger side, so I used a pry bar to gently align the hitch hole with the chassis bolt hole. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the scratches from the damaged box. I did send photos of the box and Hitch damage to shipping. I have attached photos showing the chassis after removing the plastic cover and tow bracket on the driver's side and after lowering the tailpipe on the passenger side. I also have photo showing the installed Hitch bolts on both sides as well as views of the completed installation up on the lift an then on the ground. This was installed on a Toyota 2017 RAV4 Hybrid. I will be using it with my newly purchased ROLA TX-102 2 Bike Carrier Rack. 421584

I like your product, but have a few suggestions: 1- include a set of plastic bushings, or redesign the bail pin system to as to eliminate fore-aft movement of the main support tube. Something like the anti-rattle system should be effective. 2- I think that an optional lock for the anti-sway bolt should be offered. That would prevent theft of the bikes and rack! Thule has one that could serve as a model. 557969

I’ve arrived at a point where I visit the etrailer website first to obtain detailed information on the products I’m interested in. I then do some comparison shopping to verify Quality, Pricing and Availability. The pricing is always competitive, but their service levels are extraordinary. The communications are excellent, and the follow-up (during ordering, after ordering, and after delivery) is top notch. I’ve ordered several times now from eTrailer, and most the time they have the products in inventory ready for rapid delivery. On the occasions I’ve ordered a non-stocked product, I’ve received the products before the indicated times. An example is three different locking hitch pins all Keyed Alike so (1) key would work for all three locks. Their service levels have kept me as a dedicated returning customer. Thanks for all you do. 551392

Ill give this 5 stars for the durability factor. This rack is well constructed minimal assembly required. There is some swaying from left to right and from reading can be reduced by using a quiet hitch bracket. So I have one on the way and sound promising. etrailer's wide selection of pictures / videos (vehicle specific) made assembly a breeze. 554578

Great bike rack. Did exactly what it was supposed to do. Easy to put the bikes onto the rack. The rack doesn't move much while driving. The rack tilts back so I can get into the hatchback. I like it. 552518

WOW!!!! A++ I bought this cuz it was the only cheep way for putting bikes my 08 mitsu eclipse. Of course i had to buy the trailer hitch(24754) and adapter (HTAD)also. The adapter was so tight going in to the hitch i had to use a hammer just so it would go in! I hope i can get it back out! But the bike rack is a grate product for with all that it has to offer. 2658

This product when I received it looked like it was previously opened. Accessories where sealed in bags, but you could tell the item was removed from the box at one point as the cardboard packaging inside was ripped and just not holding everything in the correct location. The was extra tape around the box showing the original tape was cut. That is the reason for four stars. However I did manage to put everything together and it works as advertised and I am very happy with the product! One thing I do wish it had was a locking hitch pin, because while the bikes are locked to the rack. there is nothing to stop someone stealing the complete rack with bikes attached to them! 375913

Carrier was extremely easy to set-up and install on my vehicle.....simply slides into normal trailer-hitch. Doesn't rattle or bounce around while carrying my bike, or bikes. When bikes are loaded on rack I can easily tilt carrier outward, to allow my Chevy HHR rear hatch to open. Carrier portion folds down when not in use, saving space. Great product for the price. Rubber stretch-parts are replaceable if/when ever needed. Can't go wrong with this item. 311806

Instructions to assemble were clear, and it took less than 5 minutes to get it together. Seems sturdy, but I have yet to have a chance to mount it on my vehicle. Something came loose during the shipping process, and there were multiple scratches to the silver powder coating. Since I live on the gulf coast, I will have to repair these area or else they will corrode relatively quick. Regardless, I'm happy with the purchase and will only provide additional feedback if there are mounting or swaying issues once I get it installed on the Jeep. 329252

I have had this for a year now and have only been able to use twice and had to rig it to work. My bikes (female and 1 mountain) would NOT hook up to it and a strap broke after 1 use. I also use the small end 1 1/4 and it wobbles like NO end more than a few inches each direction. If I didn't live in Germany I would of returned it, but postage cost more than the product. I think if you had a plain street bike the ones road bikers use it would work. but with a thicker frame it does not... 385520

I just installed the rack and a couple of things... first, the instructions could be a tad better as to assembling the two threaded bolts onto the hitch frame... it wasn't shown. Second, the straps that hold onto the vertical frames needed Allen wrenches (which was not illustrated nor were not provided) to properly secure them. Third, I ordered a locking bolt for the hitch and did not work for Rola as the hitch has built in threads which only work for their clip bolt. Four, we have retro Murray bicycles that have expanded (wider) top bars so it was difficult to fit onto the straps as they really didn’t fit onto the couplings properly but we can get by with it. Lastly, it should be noted that for wide handle bikes and wider seats and to ensure there is enough width to accommodate these type bikes, that perhaps a three bike rack would have made more sense. All-in-all, we survived the installation and it’s ‘on the road’ we go! lol 541110

I purchased the eTrailer 2 bicycle hitch mount to transport my mountain bike. I like the ease of use however, the bolt that holds the vertical support needs to be very tight to keep it from rattling. I replaced the two plastic supplied washers with rubber ones that work much better. In addition, trying to insert the bolt into the receiver hitch with the anti-rattle piece is difficult and took me two hours to finally get it through the hitch. There has to be a better way as the spring that hold the anti-rattle piece is hard to insert into the hitch receiver and hold in place while you try and insert the bolt through the hitch and anti-rattle piece at the same time without it moving. Once installed it works great on my F150 pickup. 23250

I like the product but i was surprised how heavy it was. Most of the weight comes from the collar bracket. I like that it has a bike lock on it and pretty simple to install and it holds my Trek very well. I am disappointed about how much play there is between the shank (1 1/4") and the collar bracket. This is causing the main support tube to rock from 11 oclock to 1 oclock, similar to a metronome. I would prefer a product that is very 'tight' and stable. It looks like ill have to put some shims in there? 404040

Fast, Easy, Great The websites video are great they give a true example of the product which helps with choosing and installing the rack. With all the features and the price this rack is the best bang for the buck. also get a receiver lock silent hitch pin, it's an extra few buck but make a big difference. Fast shipping and great customer service!!! 3408

Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 2-5/8" Span
$40.02
to his Rola TX-102. This lock can only be used when the TX-102 is setup for 2 inch hitches. It will not work with the 1-1/4 inch side.

This carrier is very inconvenient to use. The straps are very difficult to get on and off. Also, it isn't very high and is challenging to keep the bike high enough so the tires aren't on the street. On my 99 Acura Integra 4 door the Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" (60891) it was impossible to keep the bike tires off the road because the hitch angles down toward the street instead of parallel with the street. The Rola TX-102 2 Bike Carrier for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting (59400) is attached in the attached pictures. It hits the road on inclines and bumps and can't keep bikes high enough to keep tires off the road. If the hitch was parallel the bike carrier would have worked better. However, 22839

I'm quite happy with the purchase of the Rola TX-102 2-Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting - 59400. It's sturdy, thoughtfully designed and well made. It accommodates my full suspension mountain bike without modifications and was easy to assemble. I can't speak to the hitch fit for 2" or 1-1/4" receivers as I have an ancient 1-5/8" receiver. But with the addition of some shims the 1-1/4" fits fine and has been over some rough roads with no issues. 397624

This hitch is a perfect fit on my outlander sport. Took about 15 minutes to install including prep. I got this hitch to use with a bike rack. The other reason I got it, is because it looks great on the car. Gives it an aggressive and clean look. 396588

Really happy with this rack. Some small complaints but nothing that would stop be from buying another one. The assembly instructions were slightly unclear, however, without a little brain power and patience its pretty easy to figure out how it all goes together. Additionally, the 1and 1/4 receiver is just slightly to small (and I mean SLIGHTLY) to the point where the rack wiggles around on the back. It doesn't wiggle that much, but its noticeable. I added some teflon tap to tight everything up and it stabilized it pretty well. Otherwise, e-trailer is great! Best prices I could find, shipped very fast in great condition! 52809

On a budget and did not want to spend $200-$400 on a receiver hitch style bike rack, this one appealed to me not only for the price but also for the options. I like I am able to lock my bike to the rack especially while traveling or stopping at my favorite watering hole after a long day of riding. The ability to tilt the rack down to open the tailgate or rear hatch makes it easy. The anti-rattle is also convenient however can be cumbersome for those who frequently want to remove the rack. You could go to a regular hitch pin with ease if you wanted. It would be neat if the incorporated a anti-rattle/locking hitch pin to secure the bike rack to the receiver. All in all I am happy with this purchase. 128176

Got rid of it. Didnt work well with my full suspension mtn bike. Hard plastic mounts rub the paint right of my bike. Ended up using old inner tube to place between my bike and the rack to protect the paint.

I've had this product for a about a year. When I first mounted and used it I was satisfied; it seemed sturdy, didn't have a lot of play when everything was tightened down and looked good. I had a hard time getting my bike to fit despite adjusting the clamps, trying to place it on the clamps differently, what have you. In addition to this, it wore the paint off of my brand new bike in a couple spots which I was not happy about despite the bike being clamped down firmly. Although it is marketed as being a two bike mount it is an exercise in frustration to mount two bikes on this rack. It takes two people because one has to adjust and rotate the other bike in order to get the second bike on. I would NOT recommend this product to a friend. 472507

I used my new Rola TX-102 hitch bicycle rack twice over the weekend. My car is a 2017 Prius Prime with a Curt Trailer Hitch (Class I - 1-1/4", Item # C11473.) There were many things I liked about the bicycle rack. I could easily lift the rack and attach it to the hitch. I was worried that this would be difficult for me, but it was not a problem. The rack is solidly made and the simple design made it very easy to use. My bicycle was held firmly in place by the three straps and I really liked that I could lock the bike to the rack with the attached cable lock. There was plenty of clearance between my rear bumper and the rack. There were a couple of things I did not like about the rack. The directions that came with the rack were a little hard for me to follow. However, the instructional videos posted on etrailer resolved my problems. When driving with the rack, there was a bit of sway from side to side, particularly when I rounded a corner. When I contacted etrailer about this, I was told that some sway is normal in a bike rack in this price range. By the way, etrailer responded very promptly to my inquiry. 431818

You must by the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitches when you buy this product (if you have the 1-1/4" trailer hitch like I do) . There is significant play between the hitch and the insert. I found this out only after purchasing the bike rack and trailer hitch (maybe I should have read more reviews). From a quick internet search I found this is a common issue with all trailer hitches and bike racks (in other words not a product issue). Installation of the bike rack is trivial and it works as advertised. I have only had it for a day and used it once, but it is easy to load my two bikes, they do not sway very much and it is easy to unload the bikes. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for bike rack that will hold two bikes. 241875

The images and exploded schematics in the directions that came from Rola were a little confusing about where to put the nylon washers. After watching the videos provided by Etrailer, I was able to figure it out. This is not an issue with Etrailer. It's a slight misunderstanding that the manufacturer should be made aware of. The Rola bike rack does not accommodate some of the girls bicycle frames due to frame variations very well. You might have to purchase an intermediate frame bracket from a bicycle shop to make some of the girls bikes fit properly. However, a very innovative product, and it does exactly as described in the website. Overall, the product does exactly as described. I'm happy with my purchase. Etrailer provided me with what I was looking for. 245959

I did significant research on hitch mounted racks, considering cost, ease of use, appearance, durability, stability, accessibility of interior, ease of installation, etc. With my new Rola rack in place, I can say I definitely made the right decision. The rack arrived at my home just two business days after placing my online order (with standard shipping). Assembly (very little required) and installation took less than ten minutes. The rack is very stable, has a sleek design and small profile, and holds my bike very securely. I highly recommend the Rola TX 102 rack and etrailer as a resource. 227141

I used the Rola TX-102-2 bike rack to transport my bicycle to trails that I had previously been unable to explore. I have found that it is well made and works well, although it is a bit heavy. As a 77 year old rider, I find that it is difficult to stabilized with one hand while aligning with the trailer hitch. I wonder if the weight could be reduced in areas that are subject to less stress. I hope this comment is helpful. Thanks for asking. 492210

For the price, the bike rack has been well beyond expectations. While over time the fold down feature gets bulky, no real complaints, and in fact given the spouse has backed the carrier into a wall, I will be getting another shortly as I suspect my repairs are not perfectt

Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch And Bike Carrier For Forest River R Pod
  • I recommend first installing a trailer hitch on the back of your Rpod, and then a hitch mounted bike carrier. The trailer hitch I recommend is the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch, part # 13703. This will work with RVs that have a frame width between 22 and 72 inches. The hitch can be bolted on or welded on. The bike carrier I recommend is the Let's Go Aero VeeMe V2 2-Bike Rack, part # VME-V2. This rack is RV rated and has a weight capacity of 50-lbs per bike. This rack weight...

Also when carrying womens, childrens, or alternative frame bicycles, I would recommend using the Swagman Frame Bike Adapter Bar, part # 64005. This will allow you to carry those types of bikes level on your bike rack. I have included some links to instructions and videos for you.

  • Recommended Bike Rack for a 2003 Jeep Liberty
  • To know if the Rola TX-102 2 Bike Carrier, part # 59400, will fit on your 2003 Jeep Liberty you will need to take a measurement. You will want to measure on your hitch from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the furthest rearward portion of the spare tire. • Recommended Two Bike Rack for Carrying Womens Bikes in 2 Inch Receiver on 2012 Honda CR-V
  • The Rola TX-102 rack you mentioned, part # 59400 works pretty well for most womens bikes, but the bikes would need to be carried at an angle due to their lack of a top tube. In some cases this will compromise ground clearance or place the tire of one of the bikes in close enough proximity to the exhaust pipe of the vehicle that the tire could possibly be damaged.
