This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located behind your rear bumper on the driver's side.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at trailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Hopkins Plugin Vehicle Wiring harness with the four-way flat trailer connector for the factory tow package. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2000 Toyota Tundra trucks again that have the factory tow package. This harness here will provide a four-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights.
It is compatible with five pole, six pole and seven pole adapters that we do sell separately. And as we mentioned, it is designed for use with the factory tow package vehicles. This does connect very quickly and easily. Just locate the connection point behind the rear bumper that'll match this plug-in right here. Plug that in, run this out to the back towards the trailer, and you're ready to go.
It does include the circuit protected taillight converter, this black box here, and that's to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer, provides protection against electrical shorts and overload. And it does include everything shown here on the table. Comes with the dust cap for your four-way. So basically what you can do is just install that onto your four-way and you can leave it on there if you prefer. And then when you're not plugged into your trailer, just put the cover on there and that'll protect the terminals from any damage or from the elements.
Also comes with some cable ties. Take up any slack in the wiring and even a little packet of terminal grease to put on your connections when you go to plug 'em in. A few specs on this, the maximum amperage is 2.1 amps per output. And again, you just go ahead and find your connector behind the rear bumper, plug it into there, run this out the back plug into your trailer and you're all ready to go. Instead of having to splice in a generic converter or pay $92 for one from Toyota, I used this Plug-in-tow converter instead and was up and running in no time at all. Sure was a time and money saver for me.
This item was easy to install, it replaced my OEM wiring harness that got fried for some reason. I have a 2000 Toyota tundra but my trailer light would not work anymore i found the original harness behind the taillight which fried at some point. I just snapped the old harness off and clipped on the new harness it was a breeze then plugged my boat trailer and everything work perfectly.

I ordered this harness for a 2000 Tundra on a Monday and it arrived the following Monday. The most difficult procedure was disconnecting the 24 year old defective harness. Then it was just a matter of applying electrical grease to the terminals and plugging in the new harness.
I think that the wiring harness from the tow vehicle connection to the controller unit should have been about three to four inches longer and have an adhesive on the back to secure it to the hitch. I ended up using white cable ties to secure the wiring. One star deleted for the short wires.
Regardless, I have trailer lights. I would buy this product again.
My factory installed towing wiring harness was blowing fuses. Disconnected it and threw it away. Bought an etrailer unit, installed in minutes, worked perfectly. Could not be more pleased.

Ordered a trailer light wire harness connector for my 2000 Tundra. Nice tracking system connection with UPS. UPS was a little slow with seemingly too many handoffs for a 1/2 pound package which was finally delivered by delivered by USPS. Product itself works great!
This product installs easily and quickly. The converter is awesome, allowing the tail lights brakes and turn signals to work through one wire system. I'm really happy with this product. I was able to use the old bracket I had for the 4 flat connector after a little filing to make the bracket wider.

Still works great….no issues at all
Worked for a couple months, then the wire lead for the left turn went dead. Tested it was dead somewhere in the part. Pretty lame that it only lasted a couple months

There could be a couple of reasons that the harness is not working. The first check that I would do is see if the harness has been overloaded from the draw of the lights or if there is a short in the trailer wiring. The second is if there is power going into the wiring harness converter but not coming out then harness has now become defective. We do have a FAQ that can help. The harness does have a one year warranty.

This unit is more compact and with a lower profile of the one I replaced it with,(unknown brand) which was some 19 years old. And it looks like this one will last even longer. 4 stars instead of 5 because it didn't come with the trailer plug I needed.

Installing on a 2000 Toyota Tundra AC. Took about 5 minutes, easy easy. Just spray some electrical contact cleaner in the existing connection, and be sure to use some dielectric grease on the connectors before assembling (included).

Which model year Tundra do you have? The # 43365 is a fit for the 2000 model year, but its not a fit for the 2001, which would use the # 118378. You can definitively find the correct model year of the vehicle by looking at the 10th character of the VIN. If its a Y, you have a 2000 model. If its an I, you have a 2001.
