Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the JR Products Locking Camper Door Latch, so this is going to be a nice easy to use latch to replace, maybe a broken or damaged latch on your enclosed trailer or your RV. And it's just going to come with everything you see laid out here, so we'll get our two sides, this is going to be the outside portion and then the inside handle latch. You'll also get the screws. We'll get two lengths of these. This is going to be the kind of longer configuration and we have slightly shorter screws as well, so if you need a little narrower width for this, you can just use the different screws and if you need an even shorter width, you can always just cut those to length.
We'll also get the internal mechanisms, so we'll get the lock core, the turning rod and then the spring so we can get everything mounted up.It should come with instructions to let you know how to get this installed. Basically you just need to drill out three holes in your door, two for the hardware to go through, and then a third for that center rod to go through. That one you might need a waddle out a little bit to allow that to freely spin inside the door and then on the outside you just need to cut out a space for this locking mechanism to go about three, or excuse me, about seven eighths of an inch in diameter and about three quarters of an inch deep. You don't want it any deeper than that, you just want it to be enough to allow for this portion to go through. So that's going to be the trickiest part of the install is just getting all that drilled out and lined up.
Something you can probably do with just a cordless drill, not really anything too tricky. But then once we have it installed, that push button is going to operate our latch and then the handle does the same from the inside.If we want to lock it, there's just a little post on the inside portion, push that over and now our handles are locked. Similarly, if we want to lock it from the outside, take our key, put that into the lock cylinder and then if you watch that little tab up at the top, you can see it turn as we use our key so it might be kind of hard to see that, but it does move as we move our key, so when it's locked we won't be able to get back in there. It also comes with the striker plate so we can install that for the little latch to actually catch on and it holds that in place so there's something for it to hold against, screws to go with that as well.The construction is going to be a sturdy steel with that black powder coat, bit of a die-cast steel. Comes in black, but it's also available in white and silver.
You can find those other colors available right here at etrailer.com, it's covered by a lifetime warranty from JR Products and that's pretty much all there is to it for the JR Products Locking Camper Door Latch. I'm going to give you guys a couple quick measurements. The distance between the center is about an inch and three quarters, and then the widest span that this will still work is about an inch and a half. So as long as your door is an inch and a half or less, should work out just fine for you. Keyed alike uses single-sided 701 style key.I noticed some small indentions on the handle, it didn't quite alter the paint finish, but it looked like it had been opened and possibly dropped before I had received it.
Overall works and looks decent.
Had trouble with one of the screws and had to use an old one. Not an issue in my case but hard to give it 5 stars too. Better than the original and highly recommend.
I have no idea how good the product is because it was a full week late getting to me and we had to leave on our RV trip without this door latch that we very much needed before the trip.
I received my order in just a few days. My motorhome is 14 years old & sometimes is hard to get replacement parts. Etrailer had the right part, it fit perfect.
nearly.... an exact match for the lock i was replacing that had no keys. the difference is that the old latch had slightly narrower threaded stems (2) to screw the long bolts into. the new latch's threaded stems were about 20% larger in diameter, requiring me to ream out the existing door holes to stick them into. not a big deal. the job is done and the locking door latch now works nicely!

Installed new latch on Viking Pop up camper. Product comes with 2 different sets of screws. One set is shorter and one set is longer. I had to use the shorter screws for the thinner door on the camper. Latch is working fine

I received the product and attempted to install it, which is not an easy task. The reason I purchased this item is because the little soft metal plunger broke on the old one. While trying to install the new one, after trimming the new plunger to length, the plunger broke again. Perhaps a stronger metal is needed.

Much better than a similer item I purchased from [online] in a hurry. Easy to install. The only downfall was it did not come with instructions but I watched a 3 minute video on[line] and had no issues. Quick shipping and good email updates from the company along the way.
