What's up everybody. It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we'll be checking out this replacement thumb lock for your compartment doors from Jr Products. Now you can see we've got quite a few thumb locks on our camper today, and they're same on the other side, but sometimes they're going to go out and you're going to need to replace them. If they get like a little rusted on the inside and they're hard to turn, that's going to be a pain to do and deal with every time you go to open the compartment.Let's show you how to replace it. Measurements are really important to make sure you get the right thumb latch for your door.
So you have four different options here. We've got five eighths, seven eighths one and one eighth and one and three eights. So measuring from the lip to the outside is going to determine which one of these we actually need.We want plenty of these threads. The measurements go from here to the outside. It's showing you how many threads you're going to have to make sure it fits all the way out of here and the blade can catch and keep your door closed.
So let's measure it and see what we need. Looks like it's about seven eighths. So we'll go with the seven eighth one install that, and it should be good. The blade should catch here and keep the door closed. First step in replacing our thumb latch is getting rid of the old one.
So we're just going to loosen the screw here on the back and turn so it goes in its upright position and it catches itself as you turn it out. Now unscrew it and take off the latch and then we'll need to release this nut here.So we'll back that off with a ratchet, seven eighths. Remove that then push through. Push on the core itself and pop it out like that and we're ready to add our new one in. We're going to put the weather strip on our lock before we put it where the old one was.
Go ahead and push it through. See, it's flat on that side with the weather strip protecting it. We'll come back here and we'll let nut back on there. It looks like it's nice and tight. So then we'll go ahead and add the latch. I'm going to put the square here in the square of the latch and then add the screw on top. You can get a screwdriver and tighten it down.Must test out. You see, even using this latch this is still locked in place so it's keeping the door shut. A couple more things about the latch itself, it may not go around the lip of the inside to allow you to fully turn it. So there's a couple of things you can do about that. You can put the flat latch that comes with it too. So it comes with the one that has a little bit of a bend. You are going to flip that the other way, that way it comes out a little bit more then goes in a little bit more and they also come with a flat latch. So you can try that to see if that gets around there and if neither of those work, you can pry it out yourself with a screwdriver. You just put the screwdriver in, add some pressure and it'll bend it just a little bit to where you think it will fit around the inside lip. That's all it takes to install your thumb latches on all your doors here. It was pretty easy. I really only needed two tools to do it, the screwdriver and the ratchet. Just make sure you measure your doors and you get the right size. So you get it right the first time that does it for our look at the thumb latches..

Very satisfied!
I bought several of these Cam Locks to replace the original locks on my Lance 1685 travel trailer. They are keyed alike to the entrance door of the trailer so I need only the one key to lock/unlock almost everything. I also replace the thumb twist locks with these to make the trailer more secure at he storage unit where I keep the trailer. Thieves were prying the doors open but no more! They are easy to install and wish I had done this when I first got my Lance.
fast prompt service part seems well made and very good value
