Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Unable to install due to missing and defective parts.

Product Review:
See Figure 1:
5 one of the 7/16-14x 1-1/2 GR5 carriage bolts has bad threads, the hex nut will not screw on.
6 one of the 1/4 xx 1x3 spacers is missing; a shorter spacer without a hole was sent.

When can I get the correct parts or return the products without paying a shipping charge?

I sent a picture in a separate email.

Hey Thomas. This is a major bummer to hear. I did look into your order and Amy is getting ya taken care of and getting a whole new hardware kit shipped out.

Precise fit to the 01 Outback. This is not difficult to install but there should be two people to lift the hitch into position. Once the bolts are threaded, its a one person job. Special attention should be paid to spacer orientation during installation particularly on the car frame tiedown points. It may appear that they will not fit into the tiedown flared edges but they will. It is important that the spacers fit flush to the frame so spend the time to orient them correctly fliping the spacers around if necessary. Read the instructions carefully and make sure you purchase the bolt leader. The leader is passed through the small hole in the frame and the spacer then out the big hole where the bolt is then threaded on and then pulled through into place in the spacer and small hole. Finish up with a torque wrench. Skipping on proper torque (too tight or loose) can easily lead to a highway disaster. Auto parts stores rent them too. Space is tight on the rear tiedown point driver side so torquing the bolt is better rather than torquing the nut-- Use a 3/4 inch socket and wrench. A 11/16 socket is all that's required on the upper points. Check them all twice alternating between front and rear.

I haven't seen if it fits yet because I had to special order the fish wire. The reason I am giving this a poor rating is because etrailer/draw tite doesn't include this speciality tool that can hardly be found anywhere. They also don't sell it or tell you that it isn't included. So I am sitting here with a hitch in my dining area for a week still waiting for the fish wire to show up. INCLUDE THE FISH WIRE OR LIST A LINK TO BUY IT ON YOUR PRODUCT PAGE!! Thanks etrailer

Excellent experience. Trailer hitch was shipped quickly - ordered on Thursday and received on Monday. Watching the video made it very easy and straight-forward to install. No problems at all with eTrailer.com or the hitch.

by:
2011 Subaru Legacy

Installed easily, even doing it myself (although it required some funky positioning.) The bolt leader is especially needed to install this, without it it may be impossible to do without losing your mind. This hitch is pretty well tucked up to the body of the vehicle, I especially like that it goes over the exhaust, rather than under it.

by:

I love it. The package came to my place in Quebec Canada.

It bolted right up and was an easy job.

I love this model because it goes over the exhaust thus is more discret.

2002 Subaru Outback. Excellent communication daily from eTrailer until it arrived, which was on exactly the day they estimated! Tracking was great. Instructions that arrived with the item were not all that great, but I had watched eTrailer's online video and read the online tips.
Installed slick as snot with a perfect fit -- even though I was lying on my back in a flooded garage. Even the lighting converter installed in minutes. Hauled a 3000 GVW trailer 500 miles with it the next day. Went to retorque the 4 bolts following the trip and they were still tight as a miser's coin purse. Love these guys and will tell all my friends!

The hitch and wiring are still working great, though the Subaru is showing its age maybe Ive been hauling trailers with it too much! Someone knicked the receiver cover, which I need to replace.I gotten questions from other Subaru owners about it and have told them to check it out on eTrailer.com.Every future vehicle I get will get an eTrailer drawbar receiver unless it already comes with one. Handiest thing to get full capability out of a Subaru, or any other sport wagon.

I've had very good results with everything I've ever purchased from etrailer and this trailer hitch is no different. If fit almost perfect and went together like the video on [online] for this particular hitch. There were a couple of glitches that didn't bother me but might bother some folks. The box the hitch came in didn't hold up. It was open on top and part of the hitch was exposed. Didn't affect the hitch. The (2) 1/4" x 2" shims on the drivers side were not enough. I had to add 1/4". Again, no big deal to me. The 1/4" x 2" shims should have rounded corners to fit properly on the tow hooks. My final critique is you might want to note in huge letter that installation requires a leader pull wire for the 7/16" bolts. I know that you note that but guys like me are very poor readers. We need BIG letters. All said and done, I'm very happy with the product, the delivery and the installation. Thanks etrailer!

This will be our third and fourth etrailer Hitch Receiver purchases. From class II & III on our Subaru's to class V on our 15 passenger van (which pulled a 9,900# trailer from Arkansas to Washington State a few months back). Youtube tutorials and printed installation instructions with each Receiver was all that I needed for easy quick installs on all 4. It took around and hour, give or take, for each install. All installs done while laying on the flattened out cardboard boxes the Hitch Receivers came in. Note: One of the four (the one for my sons 2002 Outback) was missing two nut and bolt pieces. A quick trip to Home Depot and problem solved. I understand, things happen once and a while at big manufacturing companies - sometimes things get missed, probably doesn't happen that often, I just rolled with it. Totally satisfied with the Product. I order correctly at this end, they ship it promptly at their end - never had to wait more then 3 or 4 days for delivery. Great company, highly recommend. Best regards

Man. I'll tell you what, my new Draw-Tite Sportframe #36284 trailer hitch is flat out the bee knees. The Draw-Tite Sportframe #36284 trailer hitch pulls like a Peter Built and that ain't no lie. I had that thing hooked up to like three chicken coupes, dragging them around the yard like a dog with an itchy butt. That Draw-Tite Sportframe #36284 trailer hitch never even put out a bead of sweat.

by:

Hitched arrived in perfect condition. I decided against trying to install it myself and instead chose one of the recommended installers (huge thank you to Rob's Hitch & Trailer in Bonney Lake, WA). Very pleased with the hitch.

by:

The product was exactly what I needed and easy to install (per my friend who knows how to do these things). I haven't actually used it yet as I'm waiting for my bike rack to arrive.

Ordered both the hitch and the wiring T one connection. Arrived on time with the wiring taped to the hitch in an easy way to remove. Easy enough to install by yourself if you allow more time and acrobatics to hold the hitch up against the car, much easier with help. It isn't enough to take down the black box on the right, you really want to remove the mounting hardware that holds the little box up against the frame. The hitch basically aligns itself. The bolt threader is not necessary if you have a mechanical finger pickup tool and a magnet. I held the head of the bolt at a right angle with the mechanical finger tool and that was good enough to guide the bolt where it needed to be in the frame with the spacer. Fits close to the car and looks great. Would definitely use E trailer again.

by:
2001 Subaru Legacy

Install went well, the instructional video is far better than the paper instructions included with the hitch. You will need to unbolt the charcoal canister as well as the mount it attached to in order to slide the hitch up past it. The paper instructions only tell you to remove the canister. Aside from that, everything installed as advertised, no interference or rattles.

by:

Brand new receiver arrived scratched and paint missing in several areas. When I contacted customer service they told me that they don't control over that since they drop ship from somewhere else.
When a customer purchases something "new" it should arrive in new condition.

by:

Product received in a timely manner, unfortunately the mounting hardware was missing. After a call to customer service, the missing parts were shipped from their supplier.

by:

Very easy install and good fit!

by:
2002 Subaru Outback Wagon

This is a well designed hitch, and it fit into place like a glove.

The install video was very helpful as well.

UPS was rather ruff with the package, so some of the paint was scraped off.
I am sure that as the car is 19 years this hitch will out last the car.

I plan to tow a small boat to the river to go joy riding.

looking fwd to some fun on the river and some small lakes.

Thanks Dave G

The tow bar and wiring harness mounted easily and have been working as advertised. Both are made with quality materials and should provide years of trouble free use.

by:
2002 Subaru Outback Wagon

The instructional videos were extremely helpful, especially since they had the make, model and year for my application. The bolt leader (fish wire, must be ordered separately) was also a must for this application as getting the spacer block and carriage bolt positioned inside a small frame rail would be impossible otherwise. I would like to see the bolt leader included with the hitch. The hitch installation was smooth and straight forward, the only complications being due to the rusted fasteners on my car. I did use a thread-lock compound on the four hitch mounting bolts.

by:

Perfect fit, and excellent installation instructions. The hardware package did not contain the ‘bolt leader (fish wire) needed for installation, but fortunately e-trailer had a simple, clear video on how to make one if yours is lost or damaged, down to the exact type of wire to get from the hardware store. Took a bit longer than the claimed 40 minutes, but my projects generally do.
I had to buy a longer ball mount than the two I had on the shelf, to clear the rear bumper cover.

What can I say? It's a trailer hitch. But it has been heavily used on my wif'es Subaru Outback and it has functioned perfectly. But it's a trailer hitch; no moving parts.

I am extremely happy with etrailer's customer service. I accidentally ordered the wrong hitch for my Subaru. The customer rep noted that the search was a little confusing and sent return shipping labels for the wrong hitch at no charge to me. I cannot be happier with the product, the customer service , And the price at etrailer

Product was shipped fast and received in great condition. Installation was simple and quick. I especially appreciated the videos that were specific for my year and model of vehicle - particularly helpful for the wiring harness adapter (installation of the adapter is near-trivial, but guidance in how to disassemble the cargo area trim was very helpful).

  • Draw-Tite Hitch Recommendation for Ground Clearance on a 2000 Subaru Outback Wagon
Since the CURT Trailer Hitch # C12270 will sit below the rear bumper of your 2000 Subaru Outback Wagon it will reduce the ground clearance on your vehicle. However, the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 36284 will give you a little more ground clearance as the area that goes around the exhaust tip will go above the tip on the Draw-Tite hitch. Whereas, it goes below the tip on the CURT hitch. Check out the picture I attached that shows both of these hitches installed on a similar vehicle as yours. I...
